Omeprazole is used to treat certain stomach and esophagusproblems (such as acid reflux ulcers) It works by decreasingthe amount of acid your stomach makes It relieves symptomssuch as heartburn difficulty swallowing and persistent coughThis medication helps heal acid damage to the stomach andesophagus helps prevent ulcers and may help prevent cancerof the esophagus Omeprazole belongs to a class of drugsknown as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs)
