Safety InformationThe following requirements are mandatory and shall be followed when installing, using, orworking around Tokheim equipment. These hazards or unsafe practices may result in death orsevere injury to persons, or damage to equipment or property.

No Smoking - Never permitsmoking in the dispensing area.Sparks and embers from burningcigarettes or pipes can set fuelsand their vapors on fire.

No Flames - Never permit openflames in the dispensing area.Flames from lighters, matches,welding torches, etc. can setfuels and their vapors on fire.

Dispense InApprovedContainers -Dispense gasolineand other petroleumproducts intoapproved containers

that are on the ground. To preventstatic discharge, never dispensegasoline into a portable containerthat is in or on a vehicle, includingtrucks. Always use Tokheimapproved and UL Listed hoses andnozzles with this dispenser.

WARNING! FIRE AND ELECTRICAL HAZARD

High Voltage - To reduce therisk of electrical shock whenservicing, turn off all power toall equipment. In submersiblepump applications, turn offpower to the submersible pumpand any other dispensers whichuse that submersible pump. ACpower can feed back into a shutoff dispenser when dispensersshare a common submersiblepump or starter relay.

Stop Button - The Stop Button may not shut off allpower to the dispenser. Be sure all employees aretrained how to shut off all power to the system in caseof emergency. Code #4-1.2 of the current edition ofNFPA 30A requires that:

“A clearly identified and easily accessible switch(es) or circuit breaker(s) shall beprovided at a location remote from dispensing devices, including remote pumpingsystems, to shut off the power to all dispensing devices in the event of anemergency.”

Additionally, Code #9-4.5 of the current edition of NFPA 30A requires that:

“Emergency controls specified in 4-1.2 [listed above] shall be installed at alocation acceptable to the authority having jurisdiction, but controls shall not bemore than 100 ft. (30m) from dispensers.”

WARNING! SERVICE HAZARD

Turn Power Off - Beforeservicing, always turn off allpower to the dispenser andsubmerged pumps at the masterpanel. Close any impact valvebefore performing anymaintenance or service to thedispenser, including thechanging of fuel filters orstrainers.

Block Islands - Block islands sono vehicle can pull up to thedispenser being worked on.Unauthorized people or vehiclesin the work area are dangerous.

Clean Up Spills - Promptlyclean up product spills on thedriveway. Use an absorbentrecommended by regulatoryagencies. Dispose of absorbentas required by regulatoryagencies.

WelcomeWelcome and congratulations on your purchase of a Tokheim Premier Cdispenser! Your complete satisfaction is very important to us. For bestresults, please read this manual to help acquaint you with proper operatingand maintenance procedures.

For information on the care of your dispenser, including a suggestedmaintenance schedule, see the Dispenser Care and Maintenance Manual(Form 5468) that came with the dispenser.

AssistanceShould you need assistance, it is helpful to have the complete model andserial number identification of your dispensers. This information is on theserial plate, which is located at the lower left corner of side A of thedispenser. See section 2 for identifying side A of the dispenser.

Premier C Dispenser FeaturesTwo Types of Dispenser Operation:

• Stand-alone Operation – All the activities to allow thedispensing of fuel are performed by the dispenser alone. Thedispenser operates without a hose controller.

• Console Operation – Dispenser operations are controlled bya console, hose controller, or site controller. All fuel saleactivities are monitored and controlled by a console orcontroller.

Two Modes:• Operating Mode – (also called Run Mode) This is the

standard running mode of the dispenser that allows thecustomer to complete a fuel sale transaction.

• Manager Mode – (also called Programming Mode) Thismode is used to view or change dispenser configuration dataand to view or reset shift and running totals of the dispenser.Dispenser information and data are accessed throughFunction codes (example – Mode F98), which appear in themain dispenser displays.

Dispenser Payment Terminal (DPT) Option: Depending upon the DPToptions available on your dispenser, the customer can use a Credit Card, DebitCard, Fleet Card, or Cash to pay for their fuel. Most DPTs include a receiptprinter.

Premier C Non-Blend Dispensers:• A one or two-sided dispenser with up to four straight grade

products and four hoses per side.• A one or two-sided dispenser with up to three straight grade

products and one hose per side.

Premier C Blend Dispensers:• Electronic Blend (EB) — A one or two-sided dispenser

with two straight grade products and one blended productwith one or three hoses per side.

• Variable Blend (B3, B4, B5) — A one or two-sideddispenser with blended products dispensed from one hose perside.

• Transverse — A dispenser with products arranged in atransverse (reverse) order from side A to side B. Transverserefers to the position of the non-blended product (usuallyDiesel).

Ä Price Per Unit Volume Displays (4-digit displays)• The dispenser has one PPUV display per product and price.

Each PPUV display has an arrowhead that is turned onwhen that product and price is selected.

• Dual-price dispensers have two PPUV displays per product.• Single-price dispensers have one PPUV display per

product and is located in the top PPUV position. The bottomPPUV position is covered.

Å Product Selection Keypad (1 x 5)

This keypad is provided on single-hose dispensers and dispensers with theDebit DPT option. This keypad is used for:

• Product selection (no DPT or non-debit DPT installed).• Manager mode programming if the Debit DPT is installed.• Start button if the Debit DPT option is installed.

Æ DPT Display* (Standard, 4-line x 20-character display)Used with the standard DPT keypad to display customer instructions.

Ç Operator Interface Keypad (4 x 6)*• Used for manager mode programming and starting and

stopping the dispenser. Not used for manager modeprogramming if Debit DPT components are installed.

The manager's key is black. It is used to enter and exit manager modes. Itcan only be used on side A of the dispenser.

Entering Manager Modes

Place the manager key in the upper left corner of the keyswitch area until afunction number begins blinking on the left side of the money display.Remove the manager key quickly when the blinking starts. One beepindicates that manager modes have been entered.

Exiting Manager Modes

Hold the manager key to the keyswitch area to exit the manager modes. Thedisplays will show the last sale data when the dispenser returns to run mode.

A fuel sale cannottake place on adisarmed dispenser

The arming key is red. It is used to arm or disarm the dispenser.“Arm” – To activate the dispenser side (fueling point) for one

fuel sale.“Disarm” – To deactivate the dispenser side if activated (armed).

The arming key can be used on both sides of a dispenser. When the dispenserside is armed it will remain armed until fuel has been dispensed, or it ismanually disarmed, or 5 minutes have elapsed and the dispenser has not beenauthorized.

When the arming key is held on the keyswitch area, one tone indicates thatthe dispenser is armed (ready to dispense fuel). The money and volumedisplays are set to 0.00 and 0.000, respectively. Two tones indicate that thedispenser has been disarmed.

There are two options for arming a dispenser – permanent and key arming.

Permanent arming

When set for permanent arming, the dispenser will automatically rearm itselfafter the completion of each sale. No interaction is required by the attendant.Permanent arming is selected by setting mode F19 to 0 (console operation) or2 (stand alone operation).

Key arming

When set for key arming, the arming key must be held to the keyswitch afterthe completion of a sale before the next sale can begin. Key arming isselected by setting mode F19 to 1 (console operation) or 3 (stand aloneoperation).

Preset amounts canalso be sent to thedispenser by theconsole. Presets arelimited by themaximum deliveryamount programmedat the dispenser

Performing Preset Sales at the DispenserIn order to enable preset sales at the dispenser, Mode F24 must be set toallow presets and the dispenser must be in RUN mode.1. Press the PRESET keypad button, listen for a beep.2. Enter the desired preset amount by using the operator interface

keypad ($10 = 1 0 0 0).3. Make corrections by using the CLEAR keypad button.4. Press START or a MOP (cash or credit) keypad button to dispense

the fuel.

Powering Down the DispenserThis power down procedure saves all previous dispenser programming.1. Return all nozzles to their boots.2. Hold the manager key to the keyswitch area and check for 1's in the

displays. If there is a low battery condition or a disconnected battery,1's will appear. Are there 1's in the display?If NO, the battery is OK. Continue to steps 3 and 4.If YES, contact your authorized service representative.Complete step 3 only and call your authorized servicerepresentative. Programmed settings will be lost if youremove AC power after exiting manager mode.

3. Hold the manager key to the keyswitch area again to exit managermode and return the dispenser to the run mode.

4. Remove AC power going to the dispenser. More than onedisconnect switch may be required to remove power. Thedispenser will continue to display the last sales data until the time-outperiod for the battery backup has been reached. The default for thebattery backup time 15 minutes.

Operating without AC PowerThe lead acid battery keeps the dispenser displays on in the event of an ACpower failure. The displays will remain on until the time-out period for thebattery backup has been reached.

Powering Up the Dispenser1. Verify that the card cage power supply, options power supply and the

MaxVac power supply switches (if applicable) are on. Refer to theillustrations on the next page for the locations of the power switches.

2. Close and secure all covers and doors.2. Apply AC power to the dispenser.

Without AC power thedispenser cannotdispense fuel.

A low batteryindication may occur ifthe battery has notbeen adequatelycharged. If thedispenser has been offfor a period of time,allow time for thebattery to becomefully charged and trythe power downprocedure again.

Replacing Light Bulbs in the Dispenser

Ensure all power to the dispenser is off before proceeding (more thanone disconnect may be required).

1. Using a TPX88 key, unlock and open the left door of the electronicshead (enclosure).

Clearing a Paper Jam on a Standard DPT Printer1. Unlock and open the left door of the electronics enclosure with a

TPX-88 key. The printer is mounted to the back of the door.2. Pull the paper release lever (Á) down to allow the paper to be

removed from the printer (Â) and cutter (Ã) mechanisms. Therelease lever is located on the right side of the printer mechanism asshown in the illustration below.

3. Push in on the two retaining tabs (À) and remove the paper roll.4. Pull the paper holder assembly release knob (Å) and rotate the paper

holder assembly to the right and up. See illustration on next page.5. Turn the printer assembly release knob (Æ) counterclockwise until

loose. Carefully rotate the hinged printer assembly away from thereceipt chute (Ä), allowing it to rest in its full open position. Theprinter mechanism and cutter mechanism is now exposed.

6. Rotate the cutter mechanism (Ã) up and away from the printermechanism. Gently push out on the release tabs located on both sidesof the printer mechanism (Â) while lifting the cutter mechanism.

7. Carefully remove any paper found in the locations shown.Read CAUTION note on next page.

8. Return the cutter (Ã) to its original position. Rotate the printerassembly back to its original position and secure it by turning theprinter assembly release knob (Æ) clockwise until tight. Pull thepaper holder release knob (Å) and rotate the paper holder assemblyback to its original position.

9. Reinstall the paper roll by following the instructions on page 2-16.

Basic ProgrammingAll programming is accomplished with the manager key & the programmingbuttons on the operator keypads.

Entering Programming / Manager Modes1. Make certain that all of the nozzles are properly placed into their

boots.2. Place the manager key on the keyswitch area.3. Hold it there until a mode number begins to blink and you hear a

beep.

One of the following will appear in the money/volume displays whenentering the manager modes:

F01If there are no problems, F01 will appear requesting level onesecurity code entry

1’sIf there is a low or disconnected battery, 1’s will appear. Tap aprogramming button to continue. Call an authorized servicerepresentative

F23If there is a problem, F23 will appear. If ERR05 or PASS appear onstart up, the battery test will not be done and you will go directly toF23. Check the dispenser programming. You may need to reprogramyour dispenser.

Moving from One Mode to the Next

With the mode number blinking, press and hold a programming button.When the desired mode number appears, release the button. If the modenumber is not blinking, quickly tap any programming button until it begins toblink. If you go past the mode desired, you can backup by pressing a backupbutton.

Changing Parameter Information

Tap any programming button until the desired parameter begins to blink.Press and hold down any programming button until the desired resultsappear.

If you go past the parameter you wanted to change, continue to tap theprogramming button until it wraps around to the desired parameter.

This section helps you solve dispenser problems. Error codes appear in thevolume display of the dispenser when a problem is detected. Refer to thefollowing pages for descriptions of the errors and corrective actions. If thecorrective actions provided in this section do not solve the problem, do notproceed any further in trying to correct the problem without assistance fromyour Tokheim authorized service representative.

All errors except 04, 41, 42, 43, and 44 are reset by removing and replacinga nozzle or by entering and exiting manager modes.

1 HOSE / 1 MOP

“1 Hose” indicates that the dispenser has one hose per side. “1 MOP”indicates there is one method of payment and one PPUV display per product.

“1 Hose” indicates that the dispenser has one hose per side. “2 MOP”indicates there are two methods of payment and two PPUV displays perproduct (cash and credit).

AC POWER

Alternating Current power

APPROVE

A command sent from a console or other fuel point controller allowing a saleto begin. A fueling point remains approved until the nozzle is returned to thenozzle boot on the dispenser.

• In console operation with key arming, the fueling point mustbe key-armed before it requests approval. The console sendsthe approval command to approve the fueling point.

• In stand-alone operation with no key-arming, the fuelingpoint is approved immediately when a hose is activated. Inkey-arming operation, the fueling point must be key-armedbefore a hose can be approved.

ARMING

See key arming, permanent arming, attendant's key, or manager key.

ASR

Authorized Service Representative.

ATTENDANT’S KEY

Also referred to as the arming key. The arming key is red. It is used to arm(activate for a fuel sale) or disarm (deactivate) the dispenser side.

BAD SALE LIMIT

Once the dispenser exceeds the dispenser error limit on a sale, the sale isstopped, and the bad sale counter increments by one. When the bad salecounter exceeds the preset limit, the dispenser is stopped and an error code isdisplayed.

BATTERY BACKUP TIME

The time the dispenser will remain powered up after the loss of AC power.

BLEND RATIO

A ratio (generally described in terms of percentages) between two straight-grade products combined to create a blended product. Example: a 60%product 1 and 40% product 2 blend would be expressed as a 60/40 blendratio.

BLENDED PRODUCT

Product composed of a percentage (blend ratio) of two grades of fuel.

BLENDER DISPENSER

Premier C series dispensers that allows the mixing of two grades of fuel tocreate a mid-range grade.

BLENDING VALVE

Electronically controlled valve used to blend two products at theprogrammed blend ratio.

CARD CAGE

The subassembly inside the dispenser which contains the electronic circuitboards (CPU, Interface, etc.).

CONSOLE

Device for controlling and monitoring fueling points.

CONSOLE OPERATION

The mode of operation when fuel sales must be approved at the controlconsole before dispensing can begin.

(with key arming) - A fueling point operating mode that allows a sale tobegin only after the arming key is placed on the keyswitch area.

(with permanent arming) - A fueling point operating mode that allows asale to begin upon receipt of a valid approval command from the console.

CPU

Central Processing Unit. The name of the circuit board which performs allthe “computer” functions for programming and processing fuel sales.

CRC

Cyclic Redundancy Check. This test verifies that the CPU board isfunctional. A number derived from a block of data, and stored or transmittedwith the data in order to detect any errors in transmission. It is similar to achecksum, but more complicated. A cyclic redundancy check is oftencalculated by adding words or bytes of the data. The receiving computerrecalculates the CRC from the data received and compares it to the valueoriginally transmitted; if the values are not the same, it indicates atransmission error.

DEBIT DPT

DPT CPU Board used in conjunction with the DPT securepin pad to provide debit card capability.

DECIMAL POINT

Manager mode F22 sets the decimal point location in the money, volume,and PPUV displays.

DEFAULT

A value or condition that is automatically set at system initialization and canbe changed if necessary.

DISPENSER ERROR LIMIT

Limit set in programming that a dispenser can have in any one sale before thesale is stopped.

DISPENSER FUNCTION CODE

A code programmed in manager mode F19 that specifies whether thedispenser will operate in stand-alone mode or with a console. The code thatis programmed will determine if permanent or key arming is used. See key-arming and permanent arming.

DISPLAY ADDRESS

Establishes the dispenser's fundamental identity with the system software.

DISPLAY DIAGNOSTICS

A function available at the dispenser to check the displays and keypadbuttons for proper operation.

DPT

Dispenser Payment Terminal

ELECTRONIC BLENDER (EB)

Electronic Blender dispensers blend two straight-grade products at theprogrammed ratio to produce a mid-octane (blended) product.

FUEL BLEND RATIO

See Blend Ratio

FLEET OPERATION

Fuel sales must receive electronic sale authorization from the network beforedispensing can begin.

KEY ARMING

Key arming a dispenser requires a magnetic arming key to be placed on thekeyswitch area of the dispenser before a sale can occur. Key arming can beused in both console operation and stand-alone operation. The arming keycan be used on both sides of a dispenser.

LEAK DETECTOR DELAY

The amount of time needed for the leak detector system to pressurize.

LEVEL SECURITY CODES

Codes used in programming that allow access to information contained invarious areas of dispenser programming.

LIFT LEVER

An optional lever attached to the nozzle boot which initiates a sale whenlifted. If a lift lever is installed, the customer must lift the lever before a salecan start. Once the lever is lifted, the money and volume displays change todashes. The lift lever option is programmed in mode F27.

MANAGER KEY

A magnetic key that is use to enter and exit the manager modes. It can onlybe used on side A of the dispenser. The manager key color is black.

MANAGER MODE

The mode of dispenser operation that allows the programming ofconfiguration or setup data.

MAXIMUM DELIVERY

A programmed value that limits the maximum amount of fuel that candispensed in one sale.

METER VOLUME

Amount of product that has passed through the meter.

MOP

Method Of Payment (Cash, Credit, or Debit).

MULTI-HOSE/1 MOP

A programmed value that sets the maximum time allowed between pulsesafter a sale has started. This function will terminate a sale if no pulses arereceived during the set time out period.

OCTANE

A property of the fuel product controlling the burning rate. A figure of meritrepresenting the resistance of gasoline to premature detonation when exposedto heat and pressure in the combustion chamber of an internal-combustionengine.

OPERATOR INTERFACE KEYPAD

This keypad is used for data entry, starting and stopping the dispenser, andmanager mode programming.

PERMANENT ARMING

A programmable dispenser mode not requiring use of a key. The dispenser isarmed to allow a fuel sale as soon as it becomes idle. Permanent arming canbe used in both console operation and stand-alone operation.

PPUV DISPLAY

Dispenser displays that show the Price Per Unit Volume.

PRESETS

Fuel sales in which the maximum money or volume amount is selected at thedispenser or at the console before the sale begins. The dispenserautomatically stops dispensing when the product preset value is reached.

PRODUCT SELECTION KEYPAD

A 1 x 5 keypad that is only found on single hose dispensers. This keypadallows the customer to select which fuel grade will be dispensed from thehose. When a keypad button is pressed, the associated PPUV display willshow the unit volume price. All other PPUV displays will change to dashes.

PRODUCT SELECTION NUMBER

An assigned number (in Mode F28) that is used by the console to identify thehose or product.

PROGRAMMING BUTTON

Any keypad button on the Operator Interface keypad .

PROGRAMMING MODE

PULSES

Electrical impulses from dual-phase pulser that is used by the CPU board tokeep track of the volume dispensed.

PUSH-TO-START

Removing the nozzle from its boot causes the money and volume displays tochange to dashes. If this action is enabled, the customer must then press apreassigned start button on the keypad before dispensing fuel. This functionis programmed in mode F27.

RATIO VERIFICATION

The console ratio has to match dispenser ratio. Otherwise, an Error 26 willbe displayed when the dispenser is approved.

REMOTE

Remote control of submerged pump. Pump is located within the producttank, not in the dispenser.

RUN MODE

The method of dispenser operation when fuel transactions take place (whenyou are “not in manager mode”).

SALE COMPLETION

One of the following has occurred:• The nozzle has been replaced in its boot.• The stop button (if installed) has been pressed.• An emergency stop condition occurred, removing AC power.• The no-pulse time-out (set in mode F27) has expired.

SECURE PIN PAD

A DPT Pin pad (Debit DPT display, keypad, and circuit board) that issecured by a metal enclosure. Any attempts to access components within theenclosure will destroy the pin pad.

SECURITY LEVELS

Levels of manager modes where a programmed code for restricting access tothose modes exist.

SEGMENT CHECK

At the beginning of each fuel sale, all segments of the digits in the moneyand volume displays are turned on for an instant so that they can be verifiedas working.

SHIFT TOTALS

Cumulative sales totals for the shift that are stored in memory.

SIDE A OR B

All programming of a Premier dispenser is done on side A. Side B is theopposite of side A. To determine side A of the dispenser, see Section 2.

SLOW FLOW

A dispenser mode in which the fast flow valve has closed while the slowflow valve has remained open to provide a reduced rate of fuel flow.

SLOW FLOW OFFSET

The point near the end of a preset fuel sale in which the fueling pointautomatically enters slow flow mode to prevent an overrun.Default values = 0.2 gallon or .6 liter.

SOFTWARE DATE CODE

The release date of the dispenser software installed. This date code can beaccessed in manager mode F99.

STAND-ALONE OPERATION

The mode of operation when the dispenser does not require interaction with aconsole to dispense product.

START BUTTON

A button on the Operator Interface Keypad designated to start the dispensingof fuel when pressed.

(START, CASH, CREDIT, etc.)

STORAGE TANK

An underground or above-ground tank used for storage of product.

STRAIGHT PRODUCT

A non-blended product.

SUBMERGED PUMP

A pump that is located in the storage tank and pushes product to thedispenser.

SUCTION PUMP

A pump that is located in the dispenser and pulls the product from the tanksby suction.

TDS

Tokheim Debit System - provides secure debit transactions at the dispenserwhen used with the Tokheim Encryption Device (TED).

TDS Plus

Tokheim Debit System Plus – the name of the original debit system providedby Tokheim that incorporates a secure pin pad at the dispenser.

TED

Tokheim Encryption Device – used with the Tokheim Debit System (TDS) toprovide secure debit transactions.

TRANSVERSE DISPENSER

Transverse dispenser models have their products arranged in a transverse(reverse) order from side A to side B. The last two letters of the modelnumber identifies a transverse left (TL) or a transverse right (TR) dispenser.Transverse refers to the position of the non-blend product. Programming fortransverse operation is performed in Modes F23 and F29.

VARIABLE BLENDER

Single hose dispensers that blend two pure-grade products to produce one tothree (B3), one to four (B4), or one to five (B5) blended products.

VIEW ONLY PARAMETER

A parameter in a manager mode that cannot be changed, only viewed.
