1. Introduction

“Soil health Card (SHC)” Scheme is a Government of India’s scheme promoted by the Department of Agriculture, Co-operation & Farmers Welfare under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare. It is being implemented through the States and Union Territory Governments. A Soil Health Card gives soil nutrient status to each farmer for his land holding and also gives advice on fertilizers dosage and needed soil amendments that he should apply to maintain soil health in the long run. Soil Health Card will be issued to all landholders every three years and this will enable to capture the pattern of soil fertility changes occurring due to nutrient uptake by plants or other natural causes. This will also help to take up corrective measures on the soil nutrient deficiencies identified in soil health cards.

NIC has designed and developed a Web based Workflow Application (Soil Health Card Application) to generate Soil Health Card in a uniform format throughout the country. The Application Portal (http://soilhealth.dac.gov.in) was launched by Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare on 15th July 2015.

Soil Samples are collected from fields of farmers on Grid basis-10 ha grid in rain-fed areas and 2.5 ha grid in irrigated areas. The samples details along with their location details are registered in the Application portal by the concerned officials and a unique Sample ID is generated for each soil sample. The samples are tested in the labs and the test results are entered by the respective Soil Testing Lab officials. Based on the available nutrients in the soil, the crop-wise required quantity of nutrients are calculated using Soil Testing Crop Response formulae developed by ICAR method or General Fertilizer Recommendations given by State Governments /SAUs (State Agricultural Universities. Then according to required nutrients, corresponding crop-wise Fertilizer Quantities are calculated by the application and printed in the Soil Health Card.

To further simplify the data entry work for Sample registration, NIC has designed and developed the android mobile phone application for Soil Health Card. This application is easy to operate and captures Latitude and Longitude automatically when “Location” is on. The farmer details, land details, crop details and fertilizers details can be entered using this mobile app.

This document gives the operational instructions for using the mobile app.
