Begin by finding a good place to set up your router/access point. Some things toconsider:

•You’llneedtobeabletoplugyourinternetconnectionintoit,soitshouldgowithinreachoftheLANcablefromyourDSLorCablemodem.You’llalsowantapoweroutletnearby.

•Keeptheaccesspointascentralinyourworkareaaspossible.Signalstrengthandspeedfalloffwithdistance.

•Higherisoftenbetter.Forinstance,setituponthetopshelfofabookcaseratherthanthebottomone,ifpossible.

Doyouneedapasswordorotherinformationtologintoyourinternetconnection?ManyDSLconnectionsrequireinformationlikeglobalIPaddress,subnetmask,defaultgatewayaddress,DNSserveraddress,orPPPoEparametersinordertoconnect.Cablemodemsusuallydon’trequireextrainformation.IfyouhaveaDSLinternetconnection,makesurethatyouhaveanynecessaryinformationhandybeforeyoucontinue.YourInternetServiceProvidercangiveyouthisinformationifyoudon’tknowit.

Toinitiallyconfigureyourrouter,you’lluseawiredconnectiontoyourcomputer.Onceyou’veconnectedtotheinternetthroughtherouter,youmayswitchtoawirelessconnectionifdesired.

ThecomputerusedtoconfiguretheAirStationshouldbesettoobtainanIPaddressautomaticallyusingaDHCPserver(thisisthedefault).TheWZR2-G300NhasadefaultLANIPaddressof192.168.11.1andSubnetMaskof255.255.255.0.

1.PowerdowntheCableorDSLmodemandthecomputerwhichwillbeusedtoconfiguretheAirStationrouter.

2.PlugtheCableorDSLmodem’sEthernetcableintotheAirStation’sWANport.Initially,youmayneedtounplugthiscablefromyourcomputer,huborotherrouter.

3.PlugtheprovidedEthernetcableintoaLANportontheAirStationandplugtheotherendintoyourcomputer’sEthernetadapter(NIC).

4. Important: turn everything on in the correct order!! PoweronyourcableorDSLmodemandwaitonefullminute,thenpowerontheAirStationrouterandwaitonefullminute,andfinallypoweronthecomputerwhichwillbeusedtoconfiguretheAirStation.

Launchawebbrowseronthecomputerthatyou’reusingtoconfiguretheAirStation.

Enter 192.168.11.1intotheURLfield.Naturally,ifyouchangeyourAirStation’sIPaddress,you’llhavetoenterthenewaddressinstead.

Awindowwillopen,promptingyoutoenteraUserIDandPassword.

Enter root as theUser name and leave the passwordfieldblank.

Ifyou’veusedAOSStoconfiguresomewirelessclients,andnowwanttoaddotherwirelessclientsthatdon’tsupportAOSStoyournetwork,thisscreenwillgiveyoutheinformationyouneedtoconnectthemmanually.

AOSS

AOSS (AirStationOne-Touch Secure System) is a simple system forconfiguring yourwirelessnetwork securely. If your routerandyourclient device are installed and both support AOSS, then making asecurewirelessconnectionbetweenthemisveryeasy.

PushtheAOSSbuttononthetopofyourrouterandholditinforafewseconds.TheAOSSlightwillbegintoflashamber.YounowhavetwominutestopushtheAOSSbuttononyourclientdeviceandfinishtheconnection.If youhave a standalone client device,itwillprobablyhavealittleredbuttonlabled“AOSS”onit. Pushthebutton!About 15 seconds later, you’ll have asecurenetworkconnection.If your client device is a PC card,CardBus, or PCI adaptor, the AOSSbutton will probably be in its Client Manager Software. Check your clientdevice’s user manual for instructionson where to push or click the AOSSbutton.After you’ve pressed both buttons, it will take about 15 seconds for the connection tocomplete.Whenit’sfinished,theAOSSlightwitllglowasolidamber.Younowhaveasecurenetworkconnection!

Some things to keep in mind with AOSS:

•OnlyoneAOSSwirelessclientadaptercanbeconfiguredwiththeAOSSrouteratatime.Thebuttonswillneedtobere-pressedtoconnecteachadditionalAOSSwirelessclient adapter.

•ItisnotnecessarytoAOSSclientdevicesthathavealreadybeenconfiguredviaAOSS,unlesssignificantchangeshavebeenmadetothewirelessnetwork.

•DonotattempttoconfiguretwoseparateAOSSnetworksatthesametime,asitmaycauseundesiredconfigurations.

•IfanundesiredclienthasconnectedviaAOSS,itcanbedisconnectedfromwithintheWZR2-G300N’sadvancedconfigurationmenus.

PutyourAirstationintoAccessPointModebymovingthe“ROUTER”switchonthebottomofyourAirStationfromONtoOFF.ThischangesthedefaultIPaddressoftheAirStationfrom192.168.11.1to192.168.11.100,andDHCP,NAT,andtheWANportaredisabled.Allrouterfunctionalityisdisabled,andtheWZR2-G300Nbecomesasimpleaccesspoint.

AccessPointModemightbedesirableifyou’readdingwirelesscapabilitytoanexistingnetworkthatalreadyhasarouter.Itisnotsuitableformosthomeconfigurationswheretheunitistheonlyrouterinthenetwork.IfyouplantousetheAirStationasanormalwirelessrouter,makesurethatthisswitchisinthenormal(ON)position!

Bydefault,encryptionisnotenabledontheAirStationunlessyouusedAOSStoperformyoursetup.Anyonewithinrangecaneasilyconnecttoyourwirelessnetwork.Thismightnotbewhatyouwant.

Buffalorecommendsenablingencryptionandsettingapasswordforaccesstoyournetwork.ThisiseasytoconfigurefromwithintheAirStation’sconfigurationtool.Fromtheopeningpage,selectWireless ConfigTab,selecttheSecuritysubmenu.

Connecting to a Preexisting Network

Add an AirStation without changing your existing LAN configuration:1.SettheAirStationintoAccessPointModebymovingtheswitchfromROUTER to AP.

2.ConnectoneoftheAirStation’sLANportstoanexistingrouterorswitchonyournetwork.NothingshouldbepluggedintotheWAN(“Internet”)port.
