Can be set to hold movie, sports,news channels, etc., or add the audio/video channels for a quicksource function to swap between your external accessorydevices.

AutoLock™ feature allows you to block the viewing of cer-tain channels or external audio/video connections where youmight not want your children viewing inappropriate material.

Infrared Remote Control works your TV set, and allowsyou to program certain features with the press of one button.

Standard broadcast (VHF/UHF) or Cable TV (CATV)channel capability with stereo sound.

Closed Captioning allows the viewer to read TV programdialogue or voice conversations as on-screen text.

Automatic Programming of Channels for quick and easyselection of favorite stations available in your area.

On-screen Features (in either English or Spanish) showhelpful messages for setting of TV controls.

Audio/Video Jackpanel located on the back and side of thetelevision for direct connections when using audio/video acces-sory devices. these Jacks can provide improved quality TV pic-ture and sound playback.

Expand 4:3 will allow you to expand the “letterbox” imageproduced by certain DVD players to fill the entire TV screen.

Sleeptimer automatically turns the TV OFF at preset times.

AutoPicture™ allows you to set the picture color, tint, con-trast, etc. for various types of programming such as Sports,Movies, Personal, Weak Signals or Multi Media with the pushof one button.

AutoSound™ controls allow you to set the sound controls forvarious types of listening programs such as Personal (soundcontrols the way you set them), Theater, Music, or Voice withthe push of one button.

Treble Boost, Bass Boost, and Balance controls to enhancethe television’s sound.

Your new television and its packing contain materials that canbe recycled and reused. Specialized companies can recycle yourproduct to increase the amount of reusable materials and mini-mize the amounts that need to be properly disposed.Your product also uses batteries that should not be thrown awaywhen depleted, but should be handed in and disposed of assmall chemical waste.When you replace your existing equipment, please find outabout the local regulations regarding disposal of your old tele-vision, batteries, and packing materials.

1 Press the POWER button to turn theTV ON. Note: You can also press any button onthe front of the TV to turn the TV ON.

2 Press the VOLUME + button toincrease the sound level, or the VOL-UME – button to lower the soundlevel.

3 Press the CHANNEL UP orDOWN button to select TV chan-nels.

4 Point the remote control toward theremote sensor window on the TV whenoperating the TV with the remote.

5 Remove the battery compartment lidon the back of the remote.

6 Place the batteries (2-AA) in theremote. Be sure the (+) and (-) ends ofthe batteries line up correctly (inside ofcase is marked.)

7 Reattach the battery lid.

Remember, the tuned channel number willalways briefly appear when the TV is firstturned ON (and with channel changes.)

You can also press the STATUS/EXIT but-ton (on the remote) to see what channel theTV is ON.

Remote Sensor - Sensor for activating remote controlcommands when the remote is used to control the TV.

Standby Light Indicator -Green light will show when inthe Standby Mode. Press thePower button to return the TVto it’s active state.

Your Cable TV input into your home maybe a single (75 ohm) cable. If so, this con-

nection is very simple. Follow the steps belowto connect your cable signal to your new tele-vision.

Direct Cable Connections:

1 Connect the open end of the roundCable Company supplied cable to the75Ω input on the TV. Screw it down fin-ger tight.

Acombination antenna receives normalbroadcast channels (VHF 2–13 and

UHF 14–69). Your connection is easybecause there is only one 75Ω (ohm)antenna plug on the back of your TV, andthat’s where the antenna goes.

1 If your antenna has a round cable(75 ohm) on the end, then you're readyto connect it to the TV.If your antenna has flat, twin-leadwire (300 ohm), you first need toattach the antenna wires to the screwson a 300- to 75-ohm adapter.

2 Push the round end of the adapter (orantenna) onto the 75Ω (ohm) plug onthe back of the TV. If the round end ofthe antenna wire is threaded, screw itdown finger tight.

BASIC CABLE BOX/DECODER CONNECTION

If you cable signal uses a cable box ordecoder, follow the easy steps below to

complete the connection.

Cable Box (w/RF In/Outputs):This connection will NOT supply Stereo soundto the TV. The sound from the cable box willbe mono.

1 Connect the open end of the roundCable Company supplied cable to thecable signal IN(put) plug on the backof the Cable Box.

2 Using a separate round coaxial cable,connect one end to the OUT(put) (TOTV) plug on the back of the CableBox.

3 Connect the other end of the roundcoaxial cable to the 75Ω input on theback of the television. Screw it downfinger tight.

NOTE: Be sure to set the OUTPUT CHAN-NEL SWITCH on the back of the cable box toCH 3 or 4, then tune the TV to the correspon-ding channel. Once tuned, change channels atthe cable box, not the television.

Cable Box (w/Audio/VideoOutputs):This connection will supply Stereo sound to theTV.

4 Connect the open end of the roundCable Company supplied cable to thecable signal IN(put) plug on the backof the Cable Box.

5 Using a RCA type Video Cable, connectone end of the cable to the Video (orANT, your cable box may be labeled dif-ferently) Out jack on the cable box andthe other end to the AV1 Video Input onthe TV.

6 Using a RCA type Audio Left and RightCable, connect one end to the left andright Audio Out L & R jacks on thecable box. Connect the other end to theAV1 Audio L & R Input jacks on the TV.

NOTE: Use the Channel +, or – buttons on theTV remote control to tune to the AV1 channelfor the cable box signal. Once tuned, changechannels at the cable box, not the television.

The TV’s audio/video input jacks are fordirect picture and sound connections

between the TV and a VCR (or similar device)that has audio/video output jacks. Both theAV1 and AV2 Input Jack connections are shownon this page, but either one can be connectedalone. Follow the easy steps below to connectyour accessory device to the AV1 and AV2 inJacks located on the back of the TV.

1 Connect the VIDEO (yellow) cable tothe VIDEO AV1 in (or AV2 in) jack onthe back of the TV.

2 Connect the AUDIO (red and white)cables to the AUDIO (left and right)AV1 in (or AV2 in) jacks on the rear ofthe TV.

3 Connect the VIDEO (yellow) cable tothe VIDEO OUT jack on the back ofthe VCR (either one or two) or acces-sory device being used.

4 Connect the AUDIO (red and white)cables to the AUDIO (left and right)OUT jacks on the rear of the VCR(either one or two) or accessory devicebeing used.

5 Turn the VCR (either one or two) oraccessory device and the TV ON.

6 Press the AV button on the remotecontrol to select the AV1 channel foraccessory device number one, or theAV2 channel for accessory devicenumber two. AV1 or AV2 will appearin the upper left corner on the TVscreen depending on the channel cho-sen.

7 With either of the VCRs (or accessorydevices) ON and a prerecorded tape(CD, DVD, etc.) inserted, press thePLAY button to view the tape on thetelevision.

USING THE AV1 IN OR AV2 IN (INPUT) JACKS

The S-VIDEO and VIDEO AV2 in(puts) arein parallel. The S-VIDEO input is domi-nant when in use. If separate video signalsare connected to the S-VIDEO and VIDEOAV2 in(puts), the signal from the VIDEOAV2 in(put) will not be usable.

Note: The Audio/Video cables needed forthis connection are not supplied with yourTV. Please contact your dealer or Philips at800-531-0039 for information about purchas-ing the needed cables.

The S(uper)-Video connection on the rearof the TV can provide you with better pic-

ture detail and clarity for the playback ofaccessory sources such as DBS (digitalbroadcast satellite), DVD (digital videodiscs), video games, and S-VHS VCR (videocassette recorder) tapes than the normalantenna picture connections.

NOTE: The accessory device must have anS-VIDEO OUT(put) jack in order for you tocomplete the connection on this page.

1 Connect one end of the S-VIDEOCABLE to the S-VIDEO jack on theback of the TV. Then connect one endthe AUDIO (red and white) CABLESto the AV2 in AUDIO L and R(left andright) jacks on the rear of the TV.

2 Connect other end of the S-VIDEOCABLE to the S-VIDEO OUT jack onthe back of the VCR. Then connect theother ends of the AUDIO (red andwhite) CABLES to the AUDIO (leftand right) OUT jacks on the rear of theVCR.

3 Turn the VCR and the TV ON.

4 Press the AV button on the remote toscroll the channels until SVHS appearsin the upper left corner of the TVscreen.

Component Video inputs provide for thehighest possible color and picture resolu-

tion in the playback of digital signal sourcematerial, such as with DVD players. Thecolor difference signals (Pb, Pr) and the lumi-nance (Y) signal are connected and receivedseparately, which allows for improved colorbandwidth information (not possible whenusing composite video or S-Video connec-tions).

1 Connect the Component (Y, Pb, Pr)Video OUT jacks from the DVD play-er (or similar device) to the (Y, Pb, Pr)in(put) jacks on the TV. When usingthe Component Video Inputs, it is bestnot to connect a signal to the AV1 inVideo Jack.

2 Connect the red and white AUDIOCABLES to the Audio (left and right)output jacks on the rear of the accesso-ry device to the Audio (L and R) AV1in Input Jacks on the TV.

3 Turn the TV and the DVD (or digitalaccessory device) ON.

4 Press the AV button or the CH +, –buttons to scroll the available channelsuntil CVI appears in the upper left cor-ner of the TV screen.

5 Insert a DVD disc into the DVD playerand press the PLAY © button on theDVD Player.

USING THE CVI (COMPONENT VIDEO INPUT) JACKS

The description for the component videoconnectors may differ depending on theDVD player or accessory digital sourceequipment used (for example, Y, Pb, Pr; Y,B-Y, R-Y; Y, Cr, Cb). Although abbrevia-tions and terms may vary, the letters b and rstand for the blue and red color componentsignal connectors, and Y indicates the lumi-nance signal. Refer to your DVD or digitalaccessory owner’s manual for definitionsand connection details.

The Monitor (Audio/Video) out jacks aregreat for recording with a VCR or used to

connect an external audio system for bettersound reproduction.

For Audio System Connection:

1 Connect one end of the R(ight) andL(eft) AUDIO (Monitor Out) jacks onthe TV to the R and L audio input jackson your amplifier or sound system. Setthe audio system’s volume to a normallistening level.

2 Turn the TV and audio system ON.You can now adjust the sound levelcoming from the audio system via thesystem.

For Second VCRConnection/Recorder:

Audio and Video Side Inputs are availablefor a quick connection of a VCR, to play-

back video from a camera or attach a gamingdevice. Use the AV button on the remote con-trol to tune these inputs.

1 Connect the video (yellow) cablefrom the Video output on the Camera(or accessory device) to the Video (yel-low) Input located on the SIDE of theTV.

T he AutoLock™ feature is an integrat-ed circuit that receives and processes

data sent by broadcasters, or other pro-gram providers, that contain program con-tent advisories. When programmed by theviewer, a TV with AutoLock™ can respondto the content advisories and block pro-gram content that may be found objection-able (such as offensive language, violence,sexual situations, etc.). This is a great fea-ture to censor the type of viewing childrenmay watch.

Over the next few pages you’ll learn howto block channels and certain rated pro-gramming. Below is a brief explanation ofsome terms and ratings you will find in theAutoLock feature.

AutoLock™ offers various BLOCKINGcontrols from which to choose:

Access Code: An Access Code must be setto prevent children from unblocking ques-tionable programming.

Channel Block: Individual channelsincluding the A/V inputs can be blocked.

Clear All: Allows you clear all channelsbeing blocked from your viewing set withthe Channel Block Control.

Block All: Allows you to block ALL chan-nels and A/V inputs at one time.

Movie Ratings: Block programmingbased on ratings patterned by the MotionPictures Association of America.

TV Ratings: Block programming basedon standard TV ratings set by TV broad-casters.

To learn more about the Motion PictureRatings and the TV Ratings, refer to thedefinitions listed on the columns to theright.

UNDERSTANDING THE AUTOLOCK™ CONTROLS

G: General Audience - All ages admit-ted. Most parents would find this pro-gram suitable for all ages. This type ofprogramming contains little or no vio-lence, no strong language, and little orno sexual dialogue or situations.

PG: Parental Guidance Suggested -This programming contains material thatparents may find unsuitable for youngerchildren.) It may contain one or more ofthe following: Moderate violence, somesexual situations, infrequent coarse lan-guage, or some suggestive dialogue.

PG-13: Parents Strongly Cautioned -This programming contains material thatparents may find unsuitable for childrenunder the age of 13. It contains one ormore of the following: violence, sexual sit-uations, coarse language, or suggestivedialogue.

R: Restricted -This is programming isspecifically designed for adults. Anyoneunder the age of 17 should only view thisprogramming with an accompanying par-ent or adult guardian. It contains one ormore of the following: intense violence,intense sexual situations, strong coarselanguage, or intensely suggestive dialogue.

NC-17: No one under the age of 17 willbe admitted. - This type of programmingshould be viewed by adults only. It con-tains graphic violence, explicit sex, orcrude indecent language.

X: Adults Only - This type of program-ming contains one or more of the follow-ing: very graphic violence, very graphicand explicit or indecent sexual acts, verycoarse and intensely suggestive language.

MOVIE RATINGS(MOTION PICTURE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA)

TV-Y - (All children -- This pro-gram is designed to be appropriatefor all children.) Designed for a

very young audience, including childrenages 2-6. This type of programming is notexpected to frighten younger children.

TV-Y7 - (Directed to OlderChildren -- This program isdesigned for children age 7 and

above.) It may be more appropriate forchildren who have acquired the develop-ment skills needed to distinguish betweenmake-believe and reality. This program-ming may include mild fantasy and comicviolence (FV).

TV-G - (General Audience -- Mostparents would find this programsuitable for all ages.) This type of

programming contains little or no vio-lence, no strong language, and little or nosexual dialogue or situations.

TV-PG - (Parental GuidanceSuggested -- This program con-tains material that parents may

find unsuitable for younger children.) Thistype of programming contains one or moreof the following: Moderate violence (V),some sexual situations (S), infrequentcoarse language (L), or some suggestivedialogue (D).

TV-14 - (Parents StronglyCautioned -- This program con-tains some material that many par-

This typeof programming is not expected to frighten younger children.TV-Y7 - (Directed to Older Children -- This program is designed for children age 7 and above.) It may be more appropriate for children who have acquired thedevelopment skills needed to distinguish between make-believe and reality. This programming may include mild fantasy and comic violence (FV).TV-G - (General Audience -- Most parents would find this program suitable for all ages.) Have you ever fallen asleep in front of theTV only to have it wake you up at two in

the morning with a test pattern screeching inyour ears? Well, your TV can save you allthat trouble by automatically turning itself off.

1 Press the SLEEP button on theremote control and the SLEEP timerdisplay will appear on the screen.

2 Press the SLEEP button repeatedly topick the amount of time (15, 30, 45,60, 90, 120, 180 or 240 minutes)before the TV will turn itself off.

An on-screen count down will appearduring the last minute before the TVshuts itself off.

SETTING THE SLEEPTIMER CONTROL

The on-screen menu will time out and dis-appear from the screen when you finish, oryou can press the STATUS/EXIT button toclear the menu from the screen.

HELPFUL HINT

During the last 10 seconds ofa Sleeptimer setting, an on-

screen display will readGOOD BYE.

During the last minute of aSleeptimer setting, an on-

screen count down will be dis-played. Pressing any buttonduring the last minute will

Closed Captioning (CC) allows you toread the voice content of television pro-

grams on the TV screen. Designed to help thehearing impaired, this feature uses on-screen“text boxes” to show dialogue and conversa-tions while the TV program is in progress.

1 Press the CC button on the remote todisplay the current Closed Caption set-ting.

2 Press the CC button repeatedly tochoose from the four Closed Captionoptions (CC Off, CC 1, CC 2, CCMute). Dialogue (and descriptions) forthe action on the captioned TV programwill appear on-screen if the tuned pro-gram is broadcasting CC information.

3 When finished, press the STATUS/EXIT button to remove the menu fromthe TV’s screen or let the option time outand disappear from the TV screen.

HOW TO USE THE CLOSED CAPTIONING CONTROL

Not all TV programs and product com-mercials are made with Closed Caption(CC) information included. Neither are allClosed Caption modes (CC1, or CC2) nec-essarily being used during the transmissionof a closed caption program. Refer to yourarea's TV program listings for the stationsand times of Closed Caption shows.

NOTE: The CC MUTE optioncan be used to set the TV toturn the Closed Caption mode“ON” whenever the MUTE but-ton on the remote is pressed.This activates the CC1 option.

Whether you’re watching a movie or asporting event, your TV has automatic

video control settings matched for your cur-rent program source or content. TheAutoPicture™ feature quickly resets yourTV’s video controls for a number of differenttypes of programs and viewing conditions youmay have in your home. Each AutoPicture™setting is preset at the factory to automatical-ly adjust the TV’s Brightness, Color, Picture,Sharpness, Tint, Color Temperature, DNR andContrast+ levels.

1 Press the AUTO PICTURE button onthe remote control. The current AutoPicture setting will appear in the middleof the screen.

2 Press the AUTO PICTURE buttonrepeatedly to select either PERSON-AL, MOVIES, SPORTS, WEAK SIG-NAL, or MULTI MEDIA picture set-tings.

Note: The PERSONAL setting is the settingthat you setup using the PICTURE optionswithin the on-screen menu. This is the onlyAuto Picture setting that can be changed. Allother settings are setup at the factory duringthe time of production.

MOVIES - Preset picture options for watch-ing Video Tapes, or DVDs.

SPORTS - Preset picture options for watch-ing sporting events.

WEAK SIGNAL - Preset picture options forwatching programs where the reception is notat its best.

T he AutoSound™ feature allows the listen-er to select between four different factory

set sound options. Personal (which can be setby the user), Theatre (for movie viewing),Music (for musical type programming) andVoice (when the program is mainly dialogue).These setting affect the Sound menu’s Bass,Treble, AVL, and Incredible Surround controls

To select any of the options follow the direc-tions below.

1 Press the AUTO SOUND button onthe remote control. The current AutoSound setting will appear in the middleof the screen.

2 Press the AUTO SOUND buttonrepeatedly to toggle between the foursettings.

Note: Only the PERSONAL control can bechanged by the viewer. This changes the set-tings in the main on-screen menu's sound con-trols.

THEATRE - Preset sound options for watch-ing movies.

MUSIC - Preset sound options for musicalprogramming where there is little dialogue.

VOICE - Preset sound options for program-ming where heavy dialogue is present.

A“list” or series of previously viewedchannels can be selected with the

QuadraSurf™ (colored) buttons on yourremote control. With this feature you can easi-ly switch between different TV programs thatcurrently interest you. The QuadraSurf™ con-trol allows you set up four different personalSurf lists using the colored buttons (on theremote control), each holding up to ten chan-nels in its quick viewing“list.”

1 Press the CHANNEL (+) or (–) but-tons (or the NUMBER buttons) toselect a channel to add to one of theSURF lists.

2 Press the SMILEY button on theremote control to ADD the channel toone of the SURF lists.

3 Press the corresponding COLORED(Red, Green, Yellow or Blue) buttonto add the channel to that button’s Surflist. (Up to ten channels per button canbe stored.)

Repeat steps 1 through 3 to add additionalchannels (up to 10) to each of the the SURFlists.

To remove a channel from one of the SURFlists;

4 Press the COLORED QuadraSurf™button until the desired channelappears. The screen will display thechannel number with a colored“Smiley” face to indicate the Coloredbutton it relates to.

5 While the “Smiley” face channelindicator is displayed, press theFROWNIE face button. Thescreen will read, “Remove item? -Press .”

6 Press the FROWNIE face buttonagain to confirm your decision toremove the channel from the Surf list.

Repeat steps 4-6 to remove other channelsfrom Surf lists.

USING THE QUADRASURF™ BUTTONS

Your remote also has an A/CH (AlternateChannel) button. Pressing this button will tog-gle between the Current and one previouslyselected channel.

The QuadraSurf™ buttons on your remotecontrol allow you to store up to 10 chan-

nels per button (40 total). This is a great fea-ture if you want to store all your favoriteSports channels, Movie channels, or Newschannels in one surf list. Family members canhave there own favorite list of channels. Youcan even program the external A/V Inputjacks (Front channel) for one of the buttonsmaking it a “source” button for your externalaccessory devices.

Assuming channels have now been added tothe four QuadraSurf™ lists (the four coloredbuttons on the remote, see the previous page),let’s review how the feature works.

1 Press one of the pre-programmedCOLORED buttons on the remote(Red, Green, Yellow or Blue). Thescreen will display a smiley face with thefirst programmed channel for that surflist.

2 While the colored “smiley” face stillappears on the screen, press the sameCOLORED button on the remote totune the second channel programmed forthat specific surf list.

3 Repeatedly pressing the same COL-ORED button while the “smiley” faceappears will tune all the programmedchannels for that specific surf list. Afterthe last channel is tuned, pressing theCOLORED button again will return youto the first channel in the list.

If the “smiley” face disappears from thescreen and the same COLORED buttonis pressed, the surf channels will be dis-played starting with the FIRST pro-grammed channel again.

4 Repeat steps 1-3 for the other threeCOLORED buttons (Surf lists) ifdesired.

5 Any time the “smiley” face appearswith the channel number, pressing the“frownie” face button will allow youto remove it from the list (see the pre-vious page for more details).

TROUBLESHOOTING

CARE AND CLEANING

WARNING Concerning Stationary Images on the TVScreen:Do not leave stationary or letterbox images on screenfor extended periods of time. This can cause unevenpicture-tube aging.Normal use of the TV should involve the showing of picturesthat contain constantly moving and changing images that fill thescreen. Be careful not to leave nonmoving images on screen forextended periods of time, or to display the same images onscreen too frequently, because subtle ghost images can be lefton the picture tubes. Sources of stationary images may be DVDdisks, laser disks, video games, CD-i disks, videotapes, digitaltelevision boxes, broadcast channels, cable channels, satellitechannels, and others. Here are some examples of stationaryimages (this is not an all-inclusive list; you may encounterothers in your viewing):

• DVD menus—listings of DVD disk content• Letterbox black bars—shown at the top and bottom of the

TV screen when a wide screen (16:9) movie is viewed on aTV with standard (4:3) aspect ratio.

• Video-game images and scoreboards• Television station logos—present a problem if they are

bright and stationary; moving or low-contrast graphics areless likely to cause uneven aging of the picture tube

• Stock-market tickers—presented at the bottom of the TVscreen

• Shopping channel logos and pricing displays—brightand shown constantly or repeatedly in the same location onthe TV screen.

PLACEMENT OF THE TV• To avoid cabinet warping, cabinet color changes, and

increased chance of set failure, do not place the TV wheretemperatures can become excessively hot; for example, indirect sunlight or near a heating appliance.

• Be sure to allow a free flow of air to and from the perforatedback cover of the set.

CLEANING

• To avoid possible shock hazard, be sure the TV is unpluggedfrom the electrical outlet before cleaning.

• Regularly dust the TV with a dry, nonscratching duster tokeep the TV clean.

• When cleaning the TV, take care not to scratch or damage thescreen surface. Avoid wearing jewelry or using anythingabrasive. Do not use household cleaners. Wipe the frontscreen with a clean cloth dampened with water. Use even,easy, vertical strokes when cleaning.

• Gently wipe the cabinet surfaces with a clean cloth or spongedampened in a solution of cool, clear water and a mild soapor detergent. Use a clean, dry cloth to dry the wiped surfaces.

• Occasionally vacuum the ventilation holes or slots in the backcover of the set.

• Never use thinners, insecticide sprays, or other chemicals onor near the cabinet, as they might cause permanent marringof the cabinet finish.

No Power• Check the TV power cord. Unplug the TV, wait 10 seconds,

then reinsert the plug into the outlet and push the POWERbutton again.

• Check that the outlet is not on a wall switch. • Be sure the fuse is not blown on the AC power strip, if one is

being used.

No Picture• Check antenna connections. Are they properly secured to the

TV's ANT 75Ω plug?• Check the TUNER MODE control for the correct tuner set-

ting.• Try running the Auto Program feature to find all available

channels.• Press the AV button on the remote to make sure the correct

signal source is selected (FRONT or Current Channel).

No Sound• Check the VOLUME buttons.• Check the MUTE button on the remote control.• If you’re attempting to hook up auxiliary equipment, check

the audio jack connections located on the front of the TV.

Remote Does Not Work• Check the batteries. If necessary, replace them with AA

Heavy Duty (Zinc Chloride) or Alkaline batteries. • Clean the remote control and the remote control sensor win-

dow on the TV.• Check the TV power cord. Unplug the TV, wait 10 seconds,

then reinsert the plug into the outlet and push the POWERbutton again.

• Be sure the fuse is not blown on the AC power strip, if one isbeing used.

• Check to be sure the TV outlet is not on a wall switch.

TV Displays Wrong Channel or No Channels Above 13• Repeat channel selection.• Add the desired channel numbers (using the CHANNEL

EDIT control) into the TV’s memory.• Check to be sure the TUNER MODES are set to the CABLE

option and run the Auto Program feature to find all availablechannels.

Auto Programming • The procedure of adding or deletingchannel numbers into the Television’s memory circuits. In thisway the Television “remembers’’ only the locally available ordesired channel numbers and skips over any unwanted channelnumbers.

Coaxial Cable • A single solid antenna wire normally matchedwith a metal plug (F-type) end connector that screws (or pushes)directly onto a 75 Ohm input found on the Television or VCR.

Closed Caption • Broadcast standard which allows you toread the voice content of television programs on the TV screen.Designed to help the hearing impaired this feature uses on-screen "text boxes" to show dialogue and conversations whilethe TV program is in progress.

Side Audio/Video Inputs • Located on the side of the TVthese connectors (phono type plug) are used for the input ofaudio and video signals. Designed for easy use with VCRs orcameras.

On Screen Displays (OSD) • Refers to the wording or mes-sages generated by the television (or VCR) to help the user withspecific feature controls (color adjustment, programming, etc.).

Menu • An on-screen listing of feature controls shown on theTelevision screen that are made available for user adjustments.

Quadra Surf • The feature that allows the programming offour separate Surf lists holding up to 10 channels each.

Remote Sensor Window • A window or opening found onthe Television control panel through which infrared remote con-trol command signals are received.

Status/Exit • Allows the user to quickly confirm what channelnumber is currently being viewed. Status can also be used toclear the Television of on screen displays or information (ratherthan waiting for the displays to “time out” or automatically dis-appear from the screen).

Surf • The action of scanning specific channel in a limitedchannel list.

Twin Lead Wire • The more commonly used name for the twostrand 300 Ohm antenna wire used with many indoor and out-door antenna systems. In many cases this type of antenna wirerequires an additional adapter (or balun) in order to connect tothe 75 Ohm Input terminals designed into the more recentTelevisions and VCRs.

Tuner Mode • Feature control settings made by the TV.Designed for first time set up and use. Settings for signal con-nections (antenna or cable TV), plus channel program memoryare held in the TV's memory (even if the set is unplugged andmoved to a new location.)
