GENERAL NAVIGATION
Below is a quick summary of the major navigational items on the SLO home page:
1. MY SLO: This link brings you back to the SLO Home page where you can access your SLOs. 2. Shared SLOs: This link allows you to share your SLOs for review and collaboration. Additionally,
any SLOs that have been shared with you will appear here. 3. Info/Help: This link takes you to the SLO website where you will find a variety of resources on
the SLO process. 4. Logout: This will allow you to logout of the application. Be sure to close your browser after
logging out! 5. Announcements: This section provides critical information about the application, notices
regarding timing for completion of SLOs, and other alerts. 6. SLO Status Area: This section provides the current status, name, and key dates about a created
SLOs and any actions a creator takes on their SLOs. 7. Action: This column allows you to perform actions on each objective. The action available
changes throughout the process.
Key Information: • SSPs and others must complete two SLOs for evaluation purposes (to fulfill SB-191
requirements). • LEAP teachers must complete a minimum of one SLO for LEAP. If the first SLO has less than
ten students assigned baseline preparedness levels, the teacher will need to complete a second SLO.

4. From the Long-Term Goal tab of the Long-Term Goal page, follow the steps below to complete your SLO Long Term Goal Information:
A. Position*: Review and confirm your position is shown appropriately (or select another option in the drop down menu). This should default to your available position(s) in the application.
B. Area of Association*: Confirm the appropriate school is listed that will be the focus of this SLO. This should be the location of your LEAP or Growth and Performance System evaluator.
C. Grade Level(s)*: Select the grade level(s) that will be the focus for this SLO. D. SLO Type*: SSPs are now given the option to create an SLO using ‘Baseline Groups’
similar to prior years; alternatively, SSP creators can create an SLO using ‘Individual Students’ for inclusion into their SLO.
Define Student or Group Population If SSPs would like to measure student learning as a group or a population, they should consider selecting the Use Baseline Groups for SLO option. Examples of this could be: a school-wide initiative or a grade-level goal, such as a substance abuse prevention program or on-track for graduation work. If you select this option, you will not be able to track individual student learning in the system and will be expected to provide a preparedness level and an end of course expectation level for the entire group. If you select the group option, then you will give the group name a description of the population you are focusing on.
If SSPs would like to measure student learning individually, they should consider using the Use Individual Students for SLO option. If you select this option, you will have to search for and select students using their name or student identification number. You will also be expected to provide a preparedness level and an end of course expectation level for each student.
Key Information: • Required fields are indicated with an asterisk (*) • If you have questions about what content is included in a section, you can hover over the
icon for additional instructions or information about the field. • The Mid-Year or End of Course Expectation Level tabs will not be clickable until you have had
your Long-Term Goal approved by an evaluator. • Your area of association should be the same location of your evaluator. Only the leaders and
managers at that location will have the ability to evaluate your SLO. If the location of your evaluator is not an option contact the DoTS Hotline (phone: 720-423-3888, email: [email protected]). Do not submit your Long-Term Goal unless you have selected the correct Area of Association.

Use Baseline Groups for SLO
Similar to SSP’s SLOs for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 school year, you may configure your SLO by defining broad baseline groups. For each baseline group, you will be required to define the following fields and include an uploaded file for the Learning Progression Rubric:
A. Baseline Group Name*: Provide a descriptive name for this group. B. Preparedness Level*: Select a preparedness level appropriate for this group. C. Population Description*: List the names of the students/population included in this group. D. Baseline Group Target*: Expain what these students or population should know and be able to
do by the end of the SLO in relation to each Performance Criterion. These growth expectations should be amitious, realistic, and measurable.
E. Learning Progression Rubric*: Add a rubric that describes, for each performance criteria, the learning progression a student makes throughout the course. Click Browse to identify the desired file, then click Upload.
i. Guidance on selecting or creating an appropriate rubric is available by clicking the Rubric guidance hyperlink.
F. Baseline Data Sources*: Identifty the data sources you used to determine the baseline in relation to your Objective.

End of Course Expectation Level Assignments The various levels which can be assigned have been modified to assist the creator for accuracy and consistency. The following scenarios will be highlighted as shown below and may require subsequent action prior to finalizing your SLO.
- 1) Did Not Yet Meet o This level will allow the SLO creator and Evaluator to agree upon a range of Growth
Points from 0, 1, or 2. Selecting this level will enable the dropdown as highlighted in pink in the screenshot below.
- 2) Exceeded o If the baseline preparedness level was “Ahead” and the End of Course Level selected is
“Exceeded”, the SLO creator and Evaluator must agree upon the Growth Points from 2 or 3. Selecting this combination will enable the dropdown as highlighted in pink in the screenshot below.
SLO Application SSP/Other Creator Process
Page 23 of 35
- 3) Include in Student Growth? o This checkbox is enabled by default. o Any level other than “N/A Due to Attendance” will be highlighted in yellow to remind
the SLO Creator that this selection is normally included. - 4) Request Extreme Growth
o If the student’s baseline preparedness level is “Significantly Underprepared” the creator will have to request approval from their evaluator in order to select an End of Course Level of “Met” or “Exceeded”.
o If the student’s baseline preparedness level is “Underprepared” the creator will have to request approval from their evaluator in order to select an End of Course Level of “Exceeded”.
o If approved, your SLO will be routed back to you from your Evaluator utilizing the revision process. You’ll be able to assign the extreme growth rating to the requested students and re-submit your SLO to your evaluator for final approval.
- 5) Inline highlights as well as corresponding legend o The highlights will occur within the transaction where the triggering event has occurred
to draw attention to the entry in question. o Additionally, a legend has been provided to provide additional comments and
description about the event that may not be commonly encountered.

Request Extreme Growth This feature is intended to provide greater reporting accuracy of a student or groups’ progress across the entire year. Because teachers and SSPs have to put rationale in the SLO Application at the beginning of the year for Significantly Underprepared and Underprepared categories, teachers and SSPs now need to present additional evidence to their evaluators at the end of the year, if those students have grown to the Met or Exceeded Expectations Levels. It takes rigorous, excellent instruction and learning for a student to achieve 1 year of growth. Remember that this expectation is indicated by the green diagonal on the scoring matrix. On average, most students that begin distinctly behind will make less than 1.5 grade levels of growth (bit.ly/29C8lmf), potentially catching up, but not at the rates indicated by the additional-evidence-needed combinations. These combinations represent up to 3 years of growth or
SLO Application SSP/Other Creator Process
Page 25 of 35
more. These combinations should be more strongly reviewed to ensure that preparedness and expectation levels were appropriately understood, that the learning progression and body of evidence is appropriately rigorous, and levels chosen appropriately reflect student achievement. We want to hold true to the definition of Met Expectations, and that is that students are completely and independently demonstrating command of the grade level standards included in the SLO. A student or group demonstrating a level of extreme growth is not typical across all schools in the district. Yet, it is not prohibited either. This disparity between the School Year’s beginning baseline preparedness level and the End of Course Expectation Level will require approval from the Evaluator before the SLO can be submitted for completion. When using this feature, it is critical to note that the additional approval will require both the creator’s request submission and the evaluator’s approval to occur before the traditional SLO End of Course Expectation Level can be submitted for year-end completion. Additional time should be planned for accordingly in order for the final submission to be completed in a timely manner.

6. Growth Points: Each student given an End of Course Expectation Level (other than N/A Due to Attendance) will either be automatically assigned growth points, or a growth point decision will have to be made based on the Growth Points Matrix. If a growth point decision is required, select the point value from the drop down.
7. Include in Student Growth? In this column you can choose to override the default setting to include or exclude a student. If you override the inclusion, the box will be highlighted for you and the evaluator.
8. Request Extreme Growth, highlighted in purple, requires your evaluator to approve the request before you can complete your end of course expectation levels
i. If the student’s baseline preparedness level is “Significantly Underprepared” the creator will have to request approval from their evaluator in order to select an End of Course Level of “Met” or “Exceeded”.
ii. If the student’s baseline preparedness level is “Underprepared” the creator will have to request approval from their evaluator in order to select an End of Course Level of “Exceeded”.
iii. If approved, your SLO will be routed back to you from your Evaluator utilizing the revision process. You’ll be able to assign the extreme growth rating to the requested students and re-submit your SLO to your evaluator for final approval.
9. Information which doesn’t conform to commonly accepted SLO submissions will be highlighted in yellow.
10. Assigning growth points, highlighted in pink, may require you to select from a drop down list depending on the baseline preparedness levels and end of course expectation level requested.
