2. Time management

• Get an overview

• Which exams and how many do I have to take?

• How are the spread in terms of time?

• Where am I at in these classes?

• Which exams CAN I take (pass) and which ones pose problems?

Montag, 20. Januar 14

2. Time management

• Get a schedule

• Plan your time! (When will I have time to study for which topic?)

• Postulate rules (e.g. no TV before 8pm)

• Find a personal reward system (e.g. getting a coffee after work done)

• Avoid distractions (e.g. block Facebook via SelfControl [MAC] or Cold Turkey [Windows])

Montag, 20. Januar 14

2. Time management

• Get your priorities straight

• Determine daily goal = highest priority

• All other tasks have to be subordinated

• Use the Eisenhower principle to sort your tasks

Montag, 20. Januar 14

2. Time management

• Learner types ‣ Visual (z.B. Post-Its, Graphs), Auditive (YouTube),

Communicating (Study groups), Meaning-seeking (Text books), ...

‣ Which learner type am I?

Montag, 20. Januar 14

2. Zeitmanagement• Multi tasking

• Idea: Getting more done at the same time!

• e.g.: Study for several classes simultaneously, Job during examination period

• BS: You will lose track and get confused.

➡ Multi tasking will cause a decrease in efficiency! It works only for roughly 2.5% of students.

• Am I ...?

• within that 2.5% = Multitasking okay!

• within the other 97.5% = Multitasking!

2. Zeitmanagement• Problem solving strategies

• Molecular tactic

‣ Slice up problem in as many small parts as possible

‣ Tackle smaller problems „bottom-up“, from small to large

‣ Instead of worrying about an entire class, start solving challenging topics in the curriculum first

• Ask your class mates (We‘re in this together!)

• Ask your teacher: They are happy to help you, as they are happy to see that you are interested and anticipating in their class.
