American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 Broadband Workshops & Pre Broadband Workshops & Pre- Workshop Outreach Events Workshop Outreach Events  Hosted by: Rural Utilities Service (RUS) and the National Telecommunicat ions and Information Administration (NTIA)  The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Rural Utilities Service (RUS) and the U.S. Department of Commerce, National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), are co-sponsoring ten workshops for the general public, aimed at helping prospective applicants better understand the mission, scope, process and requirements of the Broadband Initiatives Program (BIP) and the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP). The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) will also make a presentation regarding broadband technology and licensed spectrum at the close of each workshop. On the date of the workshops, attendees must choose to attend either the BIP or BTOP informat ion sessions. Information for the respective programs will be shared simultaneously (please reference the w orkshop agenda). The Portland and Denver workshops will be webcas t live. The recorded webcasts will be available online. Information is available on the website. In addition to the workshops, RUS and NTIA will jointly host six Pre-Workshop Outreach Events targeted at vulnerable populations, including minority groups and tribal entities who otherwise might not fully participate in the ARRA broadband programs. The Pre-Workshop Out reach Events are open to the general public and the information shared during the sessions will include: contact information for RUS and NTIA program personnel; a presentation on how to do business w ith the federal governm ent; and topics of interes t to local attendees . The pre-events will provide networking opportunities as well as highlight the opportunities broadband deployment and adoption offer for promoting economic growth, job creation, education, health care, and public safety in minority, tribal and rural communities.
