Trail Report June 19, 2014 - Update Trail clearing continued on June17 despite snow fall in anticipation of a 12 person crew arriving, June 22 to begin reconstruction on Castle Creek Trail. MANY THANKS to Wood River Bike Coalition and other community volunteers for working hard and for continuing to work hard to prepare trails in the Greenhorn drainage to open. We will complete work on Imperial Gulch Trail on the WRBC work night on JUNE 23. Meet at the Greenhorn Trailhead at 5:30. ALL VOLUNTEERS ARE WELCOME! With enough help we have high hopes of opening the Greenhorn –Imperial Trails by mid-summer. Trail Report June 19, 2014 - Update

Trail clearing continued on June17 despite snow fall in anticipation of a 12 person crew arriving, June 22 to begin reconstruction on Castle Creek Trail. MANY THANKS to Wood River Bike Coalition and other community volunteers for working hard and for continuing to work hard to prepare trails in the Greenhorn drainage to open. Current Ketchum Ranger District Trail Conditions as of 6/19/2014

Greenhorn Trailhead: • Cow Creek #180 – open, expect to see sheep by this trail June 19 -22

• Cow Creek Connector- #930- open, expect to see sheep by this trail June 19 -22 • Mahoney Ridge-#153- open more logs are reported to be down, this trail will be cleared again on

June 24.

Adam’s Gulch Trailhead: Expect Sheep near the Trailhead on June 19 • Lake Creek Connector Trail # is open. • Lanes-Sunnyside Trail #316 is also open. • Citizens Trail #143 open. • Pork Chop section of trail #142 is open. • Adams Gulch Loop #142 is open but has not been cleared above the “Pork Chop” The Old Adams

Gulch Road Trail is open. • Adams Gulch #177 open but has not been cleared, expect logs. • Shadyside Trail #317 is open. • Heidelberg Hill Trail # is open • Griffin Butte Trail #839 is open. • Eves Gulch #146 open but needs to be cleared again, expect logs across the upper trail • Forbidden Fruit - open and cleared by Wood River Bike Coalition Volunteers! Boundary Trailhead-Trail Creek:

• Trail Creek #305 is open. • Corral Creek Trail #325 is open. • Proctor Trail #119 is open • Aspen Loop Trail #841 is open.

Fox Creek Trailhead and Lake Creek:

• Harpers Trail #323 is open, expect to see sheep near this Trail June 19 -22 • Fox Creek Loop Trail #149 is open enjoy new tread construction! • North Fork Loop Trail #303 is open

• Chocolate Gulch Trail #312 is Open

• Oregon Gulch Trail #183: open and cleared. • Saddle Trail #326: open

Bald Mountain Trails:

• Bald Mountain Perimeter Trail –CLOSED until JULY 1. • River Run Trail : open • Warm Springs: open –

Baker Lake Trailhead:

No access yet to Norton Lake Trail. Baker Lake Trail, Alden Trail and Osberg Ridge Trail are still closed due to the Beaver Creek Fire. Warm Springs Trails:

• Red Warrior Trail #152 open and cleared THANKS TO Jeff Mintz and friends for saw work and Steve Deffe for arranging trail work. Caution: high water crossing through Warm Springs Creek- not recommended for motorcycles yet.

• Warfield Trail #151 open and cleared once again thanks to Jeff Mintz and friends for saw work;

Caution: high water crossing through Warm Springs Creek- not recommended for motorcycles yet.

• Rooks Creek #145 open, mostly cleared, one or two trees across trail towards the bottom. THANKS TO Idaho Mountain Dirt Bike Riders for all their hard work reconstructing this trail.

• Barr Gulch #168, Placer Creek Trail #141 and Castle Rock Trail#140 are all CLOSED due to the

Beaver Creek Fire…trail crews will be reconstructing Castle Rock Trail beginning June 23.

Deer Creek Trailhead: all trails originating from Deer Creek drainage are CLOSED due to the Beaver Creek Fire. “Eastside” Trails:

• Pioneer –Cabin Trail #122 open small snow patches left near the cabin • Long Gulch #123 - no report yet

• High Ridge Trail#124 expect to still have patchy snow.

• Taylor Canyon #324–open, cleared on June 13.

East Fork of the Big Wood:

• Hyndman Creek:open cleared for first 2 miles, patches of snow are still in the last basin near the base of Hyndman Peak. Hyndman Peak is still holding snow and is reported to still be “ski-able”!

• Johnstone Creek: open cleared up to ½ mlie before the junction with Pioneer-Cabin Trail, small patches of snow just before the junction with Pioneer-Cabin Trail.

• North Fork Hyndman Trail: open Cleared , small patches of snow up to the cabin, • Bear –Parker Trail: open cleared • Federal Gulch:open cleared • Timber Draw: partially open and cleared, avalanche snow across the trail 1.2 miles up. Despite

snow crews will be reconstructing the center portion of this trail beginning June 23.

Lake Creek: Open – Expect to encounter sheep in this area beginning June 20. Taylor Canyon: Open to trailhead Eagle Creek Road: Open Mormon Hill : Open to the top. Deer Creek Rd: Closed for the summer due to Beaver Creek Fire Panther Creek: Closed for the summer due to Beaver Creek Fire Wolftone: Closed for the summer due to Beaver Creek Fire North Fork Deer Creek: Closed for the summer due to Beaver Creek Fire Baker Creek Rd: Open to the junction with EAST Fork of Baker Road . Norton Creek Rd: Closed. East Fk of Baker Ck Rd.: Open to the top. Warm Springs Rd – Dollarhide Summit : Open to just above Placer Creek. NOT OPEN OVER THE SUMMIT West Fork Warm Springs: Open 1.2 miles closed by avalanche debris. Barr Gulch: Closed East Fork Big Wood Road: Open . Hyndman Creek Road: Open to the Trailhead Cove Creek Rd: Open Sheep Report: June 19, 2014 Faulkner Land and Livestock

Baker Creek Allotment: This band entered the allotment at Adams Gulch near the trailhead on June 18 and crossed to the Hulean Meadows area on the same day. The band is currently (6/19) grazing in the Hulean Meadows/ Lake Creek trailhead area and will be grazing northerly towards the Fox Creek drainage for the next several days. Expect to encounter sheep adjacent to the trails in the Hulean Meadows/ Lake Creek trailhead area to Fox Creek for the next several days Lake Creek allotment: The Lake Creek allotment is comprised of both the Lake Creek and Eagle Creek drainages located approximately 3 miles north of Ketchum and east of US Highway 75. The band is planned to enter the allotment on June 22 in the Lake Creek drainage. The band will graze up the drainage primarily south of the Lake Creek road for several days On June 22 and for several days after expect to encounter sheep near the Lake Creek road. On June 21 and 22 expect to encounter sheep on the driveway and adjacent to the bike path and US Highway 75 between Ketchum and Hailey as the band trails to the allotment. East Fork of Wood River allotment: not planned to use this allotment until mid- late summer

Kowitz Warm Springs allotment: Not planned on this allotment until 8/20. A more detailed report will be closer to the arrival date for this band as plans become more firm.

Lava Lake Land and Livestock: Trail Creek Allotment: rested this year Cove Creek Allotment: Not planned to enter the allotment until approximately July 7. A more detailed report will be compiled closer to the planned entry date. Copper Creek/Garfield/Buckhorn Allotments: This allotment is located in the Copper Creek drainage which is a major tributary of the Little Wood River drainage. The planned entry of this band will not be until approximately 8/31. A more detailed report will be closer to the arrival date for this band as plans become more firm.

Plateau Farms LLC Limekiln Allotment: This allotment is located in the Greenhorn drainage approximately 5 miles south of Ketchum. The band entered the allotment on June 13 and moved to the Cow Creek portion of the allotment on June 16. The band will remain in the upper portions of the Cow Creek drainage for the next several days. Expect to encounter sheep adjacent to the Cow Creek trail #180 north of the Cow Creek “cutoff” trail #930 in the Cow Creek drainage for the next several days. North Fork-Boulder Allotment: The North Fork-Boulder allotment is located immediately north of Ketchum and is adjacent to US Highway 75 on the north side of the Highway from Dip Creek to the Silver Creek drainages. The band is currently (6/19) trailing through the Wood River Valley on the sheep driveway adjacent to the bike path to access the allotment. The band will enter the allotment on June 20 in the Dip Creek area and begin grazing northerly for the next several weeks. Expect to encounter sheep near the bike path and in Ketchum as the sheep trail to the allotment on June 19 and 20’th and on June 20 in the Dip Creek area near Glassford Heights grazing north towards the lower portion of the Eagle Creek drainage for the next several days. After June 20 sheep may be encountered in the upper reaches of the Taylor Canyon trail #324 for the next several days and adjacent to the Lake Creek road when the band trails to the Dip Creek area.

Flat Top Sheep Co: Corral Creek/Elkhorn/Pioneer Cabin allotment: Spring planning has not been completed for these bands and allotments to date. Grays Creek Allotment: Spring planning has not been completed for these bands and allotments to date. Lower Hyndman/ Pioneer Cabin Allotment: Spring planning has not been completed for these bands and allotments to date.
