2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans: Impact on CN Programs

Simplified Summer (Lugar)
• Variation of the SFSP.• Sponsors get maximum reimbursement

• Grew out of the Lugar Pilot in 14 States during FY 2001–04.
• 27 States participate.
School Meals Initiative (SMI) TRAINING
• Spring 2006, three 2-day training sessions
• Approximately 200 State and FNS personnel, contractors, software vendors

SMI Field Training
• FNS will continue visiting States– accompany State and Regional staff – assist in 2006-2009 reviews– 8 States visited since January 2007– 3 visits planned for March 2007
Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program
• Became a permanent program in 8 states and 3 Indian Tribal Organizations– June 30, 2004
• Reauthorization Act provided mandatory $9,000,000 annually beginning FY2005
Additional FFVP States
• In 2006, Congress appropriated $6,000,000 for 6 additional states
• Funding expires June 30, 2007
