TRIO PROGRAMS Upward Bound
Job Opportunity Spanish Teacher
Upward Bound is an intense academic, social, and cultural experience for high school students. The purpose of the program is to assist first generation college bound high school students to prepare for and succeed in post-secondary education. * This is a 6 week assignment beginning June 9, 2014 and ending July 18, 2014; 2 hours of classroom instruction, 5 days a week for the duration of the program; mandatory orientation on June 8 (10:00am to 12:00 pm) and teacher meetings every Friday from 12:30 am to 1:00pm
Job Description Provide meaningful and planned Spanish instruction Prepare course syllabus and interactive curricula to develop participants math skills.
(Participants are at different academic levels). Assist participants and program staff to establish, and maintain acceptable classroom
behavior and standards. Communicate regularly with Project Director and Academic Advisor to ensure the
academic development of participants. Assess and report on participants progress by administering a pre and post assessment
instrument(s). teacher meeting on every Friday from 12:30 am to 1:00pm Performs other duties as assigned by Project Director.
Minimum Qualifications: Experience teaching high school students (9th through 12th grades). Current teaching credential Experience working with low-income and diverse student populations. EDUCATION: Bachelors degree; Masters/Teaching Credential LAUSD employee preferred Experience working with low-income first, generation high school students Ability to work some occasional evening hours, as needed to support student activities
Day/hours and duration of job: Approximately 6 weeks Employment start date: June 9, 2014 to July 18, 2013 Working hours: 2 hours plus one hour compensation for preparation Hourly Rate: $25 or DOE
