Robert Hernandez focuses on exploring and developing the intersection of technology and journalism — empowering people, informing reporting and storytelling, engaging community, improving distribution and, whenever possible, enhancing revenue.

Josh Kun’s research focuses on the arts and politics of cultural connection, with an emphasis on popular music, the cultures of globalization, the US-Mexico border and Jewish-American musical history.

HENRY JENKINS, PH.D. Provost Professor of Communication, Journalism, Cinematic Arts and Education

As one of the first media scholars to chart the changing role of the audience in an environment of increasingly pervasive digital content, Henry Jenkins has been at the forefront of understanding the effects of participatory media on society, politics and culture. Jenkins is recognized as a leading thinker in the effort to redefine the role of journal-ism in the digital age.

STACY SMITH, PH.D. Associate Professor of Communication

Stacy Smith joined the USC Annenberg faculty in the fall of 2003. Her research focuses on content patterns pertaining to gender and race on screen in film and TV; employment patterns behind-the-camera in entertainment; barriers and opportunities facing women on screen and behind-the-camera in studio and independent films; and children’s responses to mass media portrayals of violence, gender and hypersexuality.
