Each session consists of several exercises and has a technical and tactical focus area. The first part of each session has a technical focus area. This is also the time to have the goalkeepers work on their specific goalkeeper session. !Although the session has recommended times for each exercise, the planning and timing of each exercise is up to the head coach to maximize the efficiency for each session. !
Using the Curriculum
7
Time: This is the suggested time for the exercise including variations
Focus: main goal of the exercise. Exercise is designed to improve this part of the game. This is where our coaching emphasizes will focus for this exercise.
Structure: This explains the organization of the exercise, how it starts, how the rotation works and perimeters of the exercise to reach it’s goal.
Coaching emphasizes: The main focus areas during this exercise. Every coach should focus on these point with the athletes and make them the main focus to improve.
Variation: Options that allow coaches to change and enhance the exercise so it can be made challenging for all levels.

Although most exercises speak for themselves please see below the list of lines used. !
Coaching Tips
9
Show & Go. Keep instructional talk a short brief talk. Set up the organization of the exercise. Demo the exercise and have players experience it.
Make adjustments where needed. Individual and / or entire group.
Show (a good demo, walk through) is very important as most players will copy directly what they see.
Give positive, constructive feedback, be concrete in communication. Let players know when they do it right, be positive in corrective feedback
Create a challenging learning environment for each player. Add pressure, defense, distance, allow less time or less touches and create a challenging exercise for every athlete.
Follow the curriculum but adjust it your players needsSpend more time on areas that you believe will be better for your players, if you come across an exercise that your player already
control and there is no learning moment, move on to the next exercise.
Know the coaching emphasizes for each skill and understand why we focus and train on specific points. When you can explain the “why” players will understand and copy the directives better. Get feedback from your players. Ask about their experience executing the exercise, what have they learned?

Developmental phases of a skill
Phase 1. IntroducHon of skill -‐ Focus on key 3 coaching points (ball posiWon, hands & arms, feet & legs) !!Phase 2. Experience moHon of skill -‐ individual technical correcWons (Grip, ball posiWon, body posiWoning) !!Phase 3. PracHce skill in game seMngs -‐ Pressure applied !!Phase 4. Apply skill in Games -‐ Coach toward different se]ngs (game like situaWons)
Visualize, be paQent, get comfortable with skill. Focus on basic key technical emphasizes !!RepeQQon, repeQQon, repeQQon Focus on individual technical details to improve execuQon !!ImplementaQon of skills in different situaQons Focus on situaQonal coaching, coaching requires emphasizes depending on different situaQons !!Coaching towards variaQons, speed of execuQon, depending on skill!
To gain some basic information on how technical skills develop from introduction to implantation in games

Improving/ teaching technical skills
1. Introduction Phase (Learning new skill)- basic skill emphasizes - repetition of skill - simple and effective
2. Practice Phase (Development of skill) - basic skill emphasizes + fine tuning - repetition of skill, in different settings - challenging
3. Game Phase (Implementing skill in games)- basic emphasizes + situational coaching - Skill execution in different settings with pressure - Full pressure situations
4. Diversification phase (Final tune up and enhance development of skill)- Improving basic skills for better performance- Small adjustments of skill to enhance outcome
(3 per training session) (getting the feel, getting comfortable with the skill)(motivate players by seeing progress with easy steps!(adjustments for proper skill execution) (Re-emphasizing the basics in new settings) (Create success factor in challenging situations) ! (small adjustments, player individual specific) (full use of skill) (full use of skill, possibility for variations)
To gain some basic information on how to teach technical skills using the skill developmental phases.
At Each futures session we strive to create the following
A fun, inspiring & learning environment with lots of quality attention for the individual ! An training environment where safety is a priority, exercises are well structured and
organized ! A learning environment where we as coaches show passion for what we do and we
facilitate young players to get better through quality coaching An intense hockey training session. Players need to go through a workout. “get
tired, sweat!” * Repetition, repetition, repetition

PSD, Pressure, Speed & Distance
• Pressure - Increase or decrease pressure (verbal, distance of defender, less time….etc) takes away time (handling speed, decision making) & space. (i.e. quality of reception becomes more important)
• Speed - Key of present gameplay, Make receptions and passing skills all dynamic.
• Distance - more distance needs more power, more power increases the margin of error in skill execution
A fun, inspiring & learning environment with lots of attention for the individual
To challenge each athlete as a coach you have several tools to modify and adjust an existing exercise.
14
An training environment where safety is a priority, exercises are well structured and organized
• Proper physical preparation and after care (warm up, warm down, water breaks)
• Safety in exercises Play by the rules (FIH), control dangerous situations and exercise area is clear (no balls laying around or players walking back to start…)
• Practice Intensity Keep exercises flowing, intense. Limit “waiting” lines. Set up exercises twice when needed.
• Quality in Coaching - Be aware of the coaching emphasizes , ability to analyze players and make correct and adequate coaching comments. Adjust and improve. (Be concrete, i.e. “be low” should be “Bend your knees” or “change your grip” should be “Hold stick with double V grip”
15
• Challenge each player throughout the sessions with individual attentionMake sure as a coach you have the tools in hand to enhance the player experience in the exercises, add a lift, limit number of touches on the ball, etc.
• Know what to look for Knowing the coaching points is as important as knowing how to analyze a player and being able to read where adjustments need to be made, (i.e. ball position, footwork, grip, arm movement,) know the mechanics of the skill execution you are coaching.
• CommunicationBe inspiring, connect with the athletes, be to the point and concrete in your coaching and demand players to do
it right.
A learning environment where we as coaches show passion for what we do and we facilitate young players to get better through quality coaching
16
• Set up exercises as close to game scenarios as possible. Allow players to experience game scenarios, set up your exercises so they are performed at game like speed & pressure
• Learning by Doing. (Repetition, repetition, repetition.)Organize your session so players don’t wait in line, set up the exercise multiple times when needed. * Create an “activity” (dribble station) when players have to wait before it is their turn. * Add a pass to get more players involved.
• Limit Coaching moments Keep your instruction talks brief, make individual corrections during the exercise. During the instructional talks, be concrete and detailed on just 2 or 3 points. Ask players for feedback
An intense hockey training session. Players need to go through a workout. “get tired, sweat!”
Using the video
Session 1 through 4 and 6 through 8 are accompanied by video. The video linked to the session show recent game footage of international hockey demonstrating how skills are executed. !The video can be used as a great reference for coaches and players to see skills and situations on how and when certain skills are used in game situations. !We strongly recommend to use the video as a reference and have your players watch before each session. Key elements to look for: !-‐ Ball position (i.e. where is the ball when hit)
-‐ Footwork when executing a skill (how do they prepare their body)
-‐ Body balance when passing or receiving the ball. (What is the stick angle, where do they receive in
relationship to their feet.)
-‐ What do they do after execution the skill?
We hope that this presentation will be helpful with creating a successful training session!
