usability thinking

Reminder: what is UX&UI
UX design is responsible for impacting and
enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty by
giving customers the best possible experience with
the product, such as improving ease of use,
usability, and the overall feel for those using the site.
UI design is responsible for ensuring that it
visually communicates with the path that the UX
design has provided so that users may interact
with each screen or page without interruption.
It is the pervading law of all things organic and inorganic, of all things physical and metaphysical, of all things human and all things superhuman, of all true manifestations of the head, of the heart, of the soul, that the life is recognizable in its expression, that form ever follows function. This is the law.
American architect Louis Sullivan
Quote
“”
Never sacrifice your message for your design. Focus on readability, narrative, and information first; artistic flair and frills second. Use your design to reinforce your message, never the other way around.
Aesthetic considerations in design should be secondary to functional considerations. Except if the main function of the website is the beauty.
Form Follows Function
Success Criteria
Identify everyone with a stake in the project
Define who is the Key stakeholder because he can strongly influence the project's decisions and those whom it is most important to satisfy.
Determine the goals of each stakeholder
Express the business objectives in terms of measurable business. Define the cost and the time for the project.
Prioritize and harmonize these goals
Constraints define the boundaries and restrictions, 5 rules features (scope, quality, staff, cost, and schedule).
Decide how success will be measured
By the number of subscriptions, by the time that user spend on the site, by percentage of the number of sells…

Subconsciously, the user identifies all the elements on a page. When he arrives for the first time on your website he will quickly assimilate what is a title, a sub-title, a button…
The designer needs to define in the beginning all the rules and keep it for all the pages.
Otherwise, the user can be easily lost if he doesn’t find the same kind of information on every page
Rule nº3
Hierarchization of the Information
TIPS:
Better to paly with the color for Chinese website because you are not able to play with the thickness of the font
Rule nº4
Make the life easyer
It’s important to help the user when he wants to do an action. Forcing him to act differently as he normally does will make him unhappy.
For example if the process to unsubscribe is easy, he will be satisfied. To hold back a user is useless because he already took a decision.
Use some text that everyone can understand in the web ecosystem
If you force the user to think, you will increase the chance he leaves the website.
Rule nº5
Understanding: choose the word carefully
TIPS:
If you need to do a bilingual website, don’t put both language together. It will double the quantity of text and it will make the website visually heavier
Example:Use “edit” and “not change”Use “read more” not “find out more”
Conclusion
The web designer cannot avoid this evolution. It’s really necessary to think
about the function of the website and not only on the aesthetic. Otherwise,
the client will stop to contact us and go on websites like Wix or
Squarspace...
