QUOTES

The youngest scout inthe troop made the best

DX contact, S51DX.When we told him where

Slovenia was, hecouldn't quite believe it!

His father sent me anemail later that evening

that read, in part, "Assoon as we got in the

car to leave the shelterDaniel told me hewanted to get his

license. I'm interestedtoo, and I think Daniel

talked my wife into it aswell. Looks like we will

It was fun to talk with aSenior Scout in Indonesiaand find out they have tobe careful of Komododragons when they campout.

The scouts were amazedwhen we utilized Winlink

to send an email usingHF radio to the

smartphone of a scout.

All fifty Boy Scoutsreceived their Radio

Merit Badge with theassistance of two merit

badge counselors andfour West Point Cadetsfrom the United States

Military Academy.

We've found that bystretching our reach tothree events each year –one around JOTA inOctober, another in Juneduring Field Day, andone during the annualCamporee, usually inApril – the overall resulthas been a lot moreexposure of amateurradio to the scoutingcommunity at large.

K2S

SUGGESTIONS FOR 2017

KE4YVF

We need slick pre-eventhandouts to stimulate

interest at district,council, and unit

meetings!

K5AUW

PLEASE make theregistration procedure aseasy as it was in pastyears.

K2S

I know the date can't be changed but maybe

K2BSA can get the QSOparties to pick a

different date. Thatwould be a tremendous help in getting kids on

the air and in QSO.

WC8VOA

We made 42contacts, and when Iasked each one ifthey had a JOTAID(JID) they all saidno, a lot of themdidn't register. Wehad printed theJamPuz sheets for theScouts to play alongbut we couldn't do it. I'm not sure if it'sworth it to have theJamPuz, maybe lookat another game typeto keep kidsinterested.

WB6IVS

For HF it would behelpful to have email

address or some kind ofcontact info in order to

make some pre jotacontacts.

It would be nice if youKB3BSA

had a site to go to wherewe could say "hey, I amon 40 meters at 7.235" to make it a little easierfor stations with boys tofind other stations withboys to talk to eachother.

Establish regional netson one or more HFbands to facilitate

connections betweenstations that haveScouts on hand to

communicate.

W5E

N4SJJ

Encourage operators tomove up or down from

standard scoutfrequencies.

KB0BSA

We need to betterpublicize the event, beginning at least 3months out, tospread the word andget Scout units toplan JOTA into theiractivities calendar.
