The Monthly SmileMay 2020

On January 26th, a Sikorsky S-76B Helicopter crashed in Calabasas, California. Nine people on board were killed including Hall of Fame NBA player Kobe Bryant and his 13-year old daughter Gianna. This was the last day they would

unknowingly have breakfast in their own homes, and say goodbye to their families.

My oldest turns 12 this month, I can’t imagine the heartache these families must have felt. I would hate to know that my son or daughter would lose out on a life full of hopes and dreams. In his early days, I didn’t like Kobe much as a player. As a Jazz fan, he was good and always gave us a hard time in game play. I thought he had an arrogant attitude, not to mention the negative media he received and controversy. But later on, I began to appreciate Kobe for the great player he was, and with maturity, I belive he became a better person. He was just like the rest of us, on a quest to be better people. Judging others never pays off, because in an instant it can all be taken away.

Many players and athletes were inspired by Kobe’s greatness, possibly one of the greatest to ever play the game. This year has been full of turmoil and controversy:

• Earthquakes and aftershocks in Utah• Impeachment trials of President Trump• COVID-19• Stock market highs and lows• Election year• Mortgage rates at all time lows• Huge government bailouts

During the Coronavirus Crisis, one day I thought, all we need now are locusts...then I found out there were actual locusts attacking in Africa. Anything is possible!

Remember a year ago when the government shut down? That seems so long ago now, but it was a big deal at the time.

We’re glad to be here standing with you in our great country. Even though things have been crazy in our lives, I believe a lot of good will come from what we learn from this experience. Most of the time things are never as bad as they seem, and most things typically work out in one way or another as long as we have hope and keep pressing forward. One example is this helped push us into marketing Virtual Dentistry platform better, so serve you at home or in the office. We set this service up last thanksgiving, but during the COVID-19 outbreak we took swift action to make this service available all of the time going forward. An “opportunity” hidden in the midst of a threat.

This month we are accepting donations to help support the Utah Food Bank, and we hope you’ll join us. As an incentive, if you drop off peanut butter and/or jelly to our office and help us bill our big blue barrel, we’ll reward you with $10 Dental Dollars to use toward any future dental service in our office. These people need our help desperately, now more than ever. Thank you again for your support.

Until Next Month!

KITCHEN PREP: HOW TO WASH VEGGIESWhile it would be nice to buy all organic, all the time, that’s not

always feasible (hello, $5 bunch of celery!).

So what’s the best way to remove pesticide residue from your

fruits and veggies? One study suggests baking soda may be the secret. University of Massachusetts Amherst

researchers found that soaking apples in a baking soda solution (1 teaspoon per 2 cups of water) for two minutes removed

more pesticides than two-minute rinse in tap water. And the longer the soak, the better.

(It took 12 to 15 minutes to completely remove all pesticides used in the experiment.)

“Many pesticides are not stable at alkaline

them,” explains study author Lili He, PHD.

For produce too delicate to soak (like

Karina Heinrich recommends this DIY spray:

let sit for 5 to 10 minutes, then rinse.

Savvy Summer Traveling Tips• You may not be traveling as often this

year, but if you do, keep these in mind:

• Buy more insurance, such as travel insurance from your own insurance company, It is less expensive than the one offered by airlines.

• Before you travel make a list of your medical history. It should include blood type, allergies, eyewear prescription, current health conditions and medications you are currently taking, Fold it up and put it in your passport.

• Just had dental work? If it has been less than 12 hours since your trip to the dentist, the change in atmospheric pressure in an airplane or altitude can cause pain or pressure sensitivity. Don’t be overly alarmed unless it doesn’t go away.

• Alcohol is more intoxicating on an airplane than on

more quickly and the alcohol absorbs more rapidly. into the intestinal tract so you feel it more quickly.

Can You Name This Car?Last year Dr. Williams was at a convention, and one of the speakers was showing off this American Legend. Can you name the make, model and approximate year?

Text your answer to 989-303-3994 and you’ll

answer right!

SELF-DRIVING: Uber Vehicles Have Made Their Way to D.C.

The future is here! As a kid I loved the Back to the Future movies, and always thought driverless cars were going to be WAY OFF IN THE FUTURE! But Uber has begun their self-driving vehicle campaign, starting with Washington,

D.C. Our Nations Capital passed the “Autonomous Vehicle Act of 2012,” which is why the self-driving initiative

“make the roads safer in major cities.” According to Uber, this can

be achieved by utilizing vehicles that know exactly which speeds to drive and when to stop and slow down.

Book Recommendation: The One ThingI recommended this book a couple of years ago, but recently I reread it.

Now that the year is half over - have you focused on your personal or career priorities?

One of the highlights of this book is the 4 thieves - which consume your time without any meaningful priority. If you haven’t read (or reread lately), I highly recommend it. Find it at Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble.

Refer in a friend or family member to Pinecrest dental &

be entered to win $300 in Botox. Valid through June 30th only.

It’s time to laugh!

A man driving through the country stopped at a small farm to ask for directions. “Can you tell me how to get to Route 49?”“Nope,” drawled the farmer as he chewed on a piece of straw.“Well, then do you know where the turnpike is located?”The farmer thought for a minute and then shook his head,“Nope.”“How about Duncan? Surely you can tell me how far I am from the town of Duncan?”Again the farmer just shook his head.Frustrated, the driver snapped,”You don’t know much of anything, do you?”To which the farmer replied, “Nope, but I know I’m not lost.”

Congrats to Jim for winning $200 in $2 bills in our March Referral Contest!

Thank you for your many kind referrals!
