Introducing the US Pathway ProgramThe US Pathway Program (USPP) was established by the Consortium of North American Universities (CNAU), led by Northeastern University and Kaplan International Pathways. It offers you the unique opportunity to begin your undergraduate studies in London, then easily transition to year 2 of a bachelor’s degree program in the USA.

Complete careFrom your arrival in London to your departure for Boston, we have everything covered to make sure you’re well cared for on the US Pathway Program.

Insure your studiesWe offer all students at Palace House the option to purchase EduTravel: a comprehensive travel, emergency health, and academic insurance policy. EduTravel is specially designed for international students, so you can be sure you’re getting a policy that’s ideal for your time abroad.

When you transition to your studies at the Summer Bridge, Northeastern University will require you to have comprehensive health insurance. As an international student, you will be enrolled automatically into the Northeastern University Student Health Plan (NUSHP).

Applying for student visasBefore you arrive at Palace House, we’ll give you information on how to apply for a UK study visa. Then, during the spring term of the US Pathway Program, we will help you apply for your US study visa, so you can arrive on time for the Summer Bridge term in Boston. Our dedicated student services staff are experts in international education; since 2009, we have helped over 1,000 USPP students obtain US study visas.

ImmunizationsOur staff are on hand to provide advice on any vaccinations you might need before you study in the USA, and on where you can complete them before you depart for Boston.

Progressing to universityUSPP staff will work with your destination university to coordinate your arrival on your new campus after the Summer Bridge term. If there is a gap between the end of term and your designated move-in date, CNAU staff will assist you to explore your options for temporary housing.

Scholarships, tuition fees and work experienceThe US Pathway Program offers many benefits, as well as an excellent return on your investment.

US Pathway Program scholarshipsTo support your studies in London, we offer all students entering in Fall 2017 a £2,000 scholarship.

Progression scholarshipsPartial scholarships are available for high-performing USPP students when they progress to their CNAU bachelor’s degree. These scholarships are typically awarded based on academic merit, and can be renewed if students continue to meet minimum GPA requirements during their degree.

Here are examples of scholarships available to eligible US Pathway Program students:

Palace House staff will give students with the most up-to-date information on scholarships available to US Pathway Program students, and guidance on application steps and deadlines.

Tuition feesProgram tuition fees offer excellent value for money. Total tuition for the Fall and Spring terms in London is £14,880*, which includes a 20% value-added tax (VAT). Fees for the Summer Bridge term in the USA are $17,424†.

American universities offer incredible academics and student services, and their tuition fees reflect their investment in each individual student. Tuition fees at our CNAU partners are competitive within US higher education, and range between $39,000 and $47,000 per year.

Prepare for your careerAfter you complete USPP, you can gain hands-on work experience on your F-1 student visa. The international student services office at your CNAU university can advise you on the co-operative education and internship programs you can complete during your degree. They can also provide guidance on how to apply for temporary work opportunities after graduation, through Optional Practical Training (OPT). This allows you to gain professional experience of 12–36 months in the USA, giving you an advantage in your career.

Your 1st term: Fall curriculumThe first term of US Pathway Program gives you a solid base for further study. During this 12-week term, you can earn up to 6 credits towards your US degree.

All students study the following courses:

American Studies I2 creditsDevelop critical reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills while studying American culture, society and history. Example topics include the US Constitution and the role of public opinion in American life and politics.

Calculus I4 creditsStudy major uses of the derivative, including limits and formulas for algebraic, trigonometric, exponential and logarithmic functions. Discuss applications of derivatives to motion, density, optimization, linear approximations, and related rates. Learn integration techniques including limits of sums, anti-differentiation, the fundamental theorem of calculus, and integration by substitution.

Career and Program CounselingNon-creditExplore career possibilities and education options before committing to a particular degree path. Topics include US culture and work life; the American education system; courses of study and career paths; and developing industries in the world economy.

Information TechnologyNon-creditLearn to edit and format files with Microsoft Word, build and deliver presentations with PowerPoint, and enter, organize and graph data in Excel. Practice using the internet effectively for finding, evaluating and using internet-based reference material. Learn to use online library catalogs and databases.

University Preparation I (Fall) and II (Spring)Non-creditThis 2-term course focuses on building students’ academic English skills for successful study in the USA. The course has the following 7 parts, with closely related materials and assignments:

Academic WritingLearn to write academic arguments supported by research and citations. Develop skills for self-evaluation, and for giving and receiving feedback as part of the writing process.

Academic ReadingLearn strategies such as scanning a text, reading for research, taking notes for understanding and retention, and reading critically.

Presentation and DiscussionDevelop your oral presentation and class participation skills through a range of practical activities.

English Grammar and UsageRefine your knowledge of the more challenging aspects of written and spoken English. Focus on using outside sources, different levels of formality, and various sentence structures and discourse markers for effective communication.

Study SkillsDevelop skills for reviewing and annotating lecture notes and reading materials, reading critically and efficiently, studying for major tests, moving through the writing process and managing time well.

American Culture and MediaDevelop an understanding of and interest in American culture, society, history and current events.

College Life SkillsPrepare for opportunities at university by learning about international student life, peer tutoring, approaching professors, and sports and extracurricular activities.

Your 2nd term: Spring curriculumThe Spring term also takes place at Palace House in London and is divided into 2 academic tracks. During the 15-week term, you can earn up to 14 credits towards your US bachelor’s degree.

All students study the following courses:

American Studies II2 creditsDevelop critical reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in preparation for university study in the USA. Discuss broad themes in American history and society. Assessments include a group research project to explore different aspects of contemporary US society.

General Chemistry (without Lab)4 creditsStudy the development of the key principles of chemistry and their applications. Topics include matter, stoichiometry, gas laws, thermochemistry, quantum theory, atomic structure, electronic configurations, bonding and intermolecular forces.

Engineering and Computer Science trackStudents interested in engineering or computer science majors also study these courses:

Calculus II for Science/Engineering4 creditsStudy further applications of integration, including areas, volumes and work as integrals; integration by parts and improper integrals. Discuss convergence of sequences and series, power series approximations, 3D coordinates, parameterizations, vectors and dot products, tangent and normal vectors, velocity, and acceleration in space.

Engineering Design4 creditsDevelop problem-solving skills used in engineering design. Learn to use spreadsheet tools to solve engineering problems, including data reduction and visualization of data and functions. Design topics include formulation and specification of problems; creativity; evaluation tools; patents; ergonomics; system design; manufacturing; ethics; presentation techniques; 3-dimensional visualization skills and computer-aided design application.

Business and Humanities trackStudents interested in majors in arts, business, science, social science or other subjects also study these courses:

Business Statistics4 creditsGain skills in collecting, summarizing, analyzing and interpreting business-related data, covering basic language and concepts of statistics. Explore how to build forecasting models for chosen variables, and how to use statistical software tools. Practice communicating findings through a data analysis project.

Principles of Microeconomics4 creditsStudy how ‘micro’ entities such as individuals and firms make decisions and how these decisions interact. Learn basic economic concepts and models, often in graphic form, to aid discussion of economic issues. Apply these concepts and models to explain many economic behaviors, and participate in debates on a number of economic policy issues.

Your 3rd term: Summer BridgeThe 10-week Summer Bridge term takes place on the campus of Northeastern University in Boston, USA. The curriculum is based on your degree major, and accompanying cultural and social activities help you meet people and get to know Boston. You can earn up to 14 credits towards your US degree.

Chemistry Lab*1 creditComplementing the General Chemistry course from the Spring term, the Lab covers a range of topics including qualitative and quantitative analysis, and the characteristics of chemical and physical processes.

College Writing†

4 creditsStudy more complex texts, practice critical reading, and learn to use language and strategies for descriptive writing. Conduct library research and focus not only on the finished product, but also on the whole process of writing.

Exploring AmericaNon-creditLearn to become a global citizen through workshops, seminars, course readings, discussions and local engagement. Actively participate in Northeastern student life, as well as the Boston community and beyond. Take part in a series of field trips and regional events, and discuss relevant connections between the USA and students’ home countries.

Principles of Macroeconomics4 creditsDiscover the important differences between macroeconomic and microeconomic questions. Learn about both long-run growth and short-run fluctuations of the whole economy. Investigate what affects productivity and how factor accumulation and technological change affect the standard of living over time and across countries in the long run.

Engineering and Computer Science trackStudents interested in engineering or computer science majors also study:
