The CB FORTY civic action proram centered mainly about l EDGAP ie the medical and dental civic action program

The MCB FORTY program coordinated t-ri th and under the direction of First Marine Di vision G-5 ( ci vie action officer) was inauFurated in early September the first full month of MCB FORTIbull s Vietnam deployment

Since supplies were not available f r om lST MARDrr for MEDCAP p rposes it was decided that medical supplies wnula be borrowed from battalion stoc _ ntil MEDCAP supplies could be provided by lST MARDIV As it turned out the division was unable to provide any MEDCAP gear until mid-February and then only a small amount was furnished It is therefore recommended that future Seabee battalions in the Chu Lai area be hesitant ta borrow from their own stocks with the hope of being able to replenish them fror1 MEDCAP gear at a later date

The MEDCAP site was not chosen y MCB FORIY but rather it was assigned to MCB FORTY by the G-5 of 1ST NARDIV Tbe MCB FORTY civic action officer was told at the time that the hamlet of Trnu~ An ras the poorest and most destitute in the Chu Lai area It was agreed that this hamlet would be ideal for MOB FORlY civic action At first the meclicaldental MEDCAP team visite the hamlet three times weekly but after the first eight weeks when the backlog of patients had been cleared the number of visits waa cut to two weekly and - in rare instance- only one MEDCAP visit was made in a 5iven eek In addition 800 lbs f cltiJshying were distributed to the people of Trung An and wood runs nt~i 6~ t middot1 middotr-

The CB FORTY civic action proram centered mainly about l EDGAP ie the medical and dental civic action program

The MCB FORTY program coordinated t-ri th and under the direction of First Marine Di vision G-5 ( ci vie action officer) was inauFurated in early September the first full month of MCB FORTIbull s Vietnam deployment

Since supplies were not available f r om lST MARDrr for MEDCAP p rposes it was decided that medical supplies wnula be borrowed from battalion stoc _ ntil MEDCAP supplies could be provided by lST MARDIV As it turned out the division was unable to provide any MEDCAP gear until mid-February and then only a small amount was furnished It is therefore recommended that future Seabee battalions in the Chu Lai area be hesitant ta borrow from their own stocks with the hope of being able to replenish them fror1 MEDCAP gear at a later date

The MEDCAP site was not chosen y MCB FORIY but rather it was assigned to MCB FORTY by the G-5 of 1ST NARDIV Tbe MCB FORTY civic action officer was told at the time that the hamlet of Trnu~ An ras the poorest and most destitute in the Chu Lai area It was agreed that this hamlet would be ideal for MOB FORlY civic action At first the meclicaldental MEDCAP team visite the hamlet three times weekly but after the first eight weeks when the backlog of patients had been cleared the number of visits waa cut to two weekly and - in rare instance- only one MEDCAP visit was made in a 5iven eek In addition 800 lbs f cltiJshying were distributed to the people of Trung An and wood runs nt~i 6~ t middot1 middotr-

The CB FORTY civic action proram centered mainly about l EDGAP ie the medical and dental civic action program

The MCB FORTY program coordinated t-ri th and under the direction of First Marine Di vision G-5 ( ci vie action officer) was inauFurated in early September the first full month of MCB FORTIbull s Vietnam deployment

9 Civic Action

The CB FORTY civic action proram centered mainly about l EDGAP ie the medical and dental civic action program

The MCB FORTY program coordinated t-ri th and under the direction of First Marine Di vision G-5 ( ci vie action officer) was inauFurated in early September the first full month of MCB FORTIbull s Vietnam deployment

Since supplies were not available f r om lST MARDrr for MEDCAP p rposes it was decided that medical supplies wnula be borrowed from battalion stoc _ ntil MEDCAP supplies could be provided by lST MARDIV As it turned out the division was unable to provide any MEDCAP gear until mid-February and then only a small amount was furnished It is therefore recommended that future Seabee battalions in the Chu Lai area be hesitant ta borrow from their own stocks with the hope of being able to replenish them fror1 MEDCAP gear at a later date

The MEDCAP site was not chosen y MCB FORIY but rather it was assigned to MCB FORTY by the G-5 of 1ST NARDIV Tbe MCB FORTY civic action officer was told at the time that the hamlet of Trnu~ An ras the poorest and most destitute in the Chu Lai area It was agreed that this hamlet would be ideal for MOB FORlY civic action At first the meclicaldental MEDCAP team visite the hamlet three times weekly but after the first eight weeks when the backlog of patients had been cleared the number of visits waa cut to two weekly and - in rare instance- only one MEDCAP visit was made in a 5iven eek In addition 800 lbs f cltiJshying were distributed to the people of Trung An and wood runs nt~i 6~ t middot1 middotr-
