INTRODUCTION

This Special Bibliography Series, Number 114, “U.S.- India Relations: Partners in Democracy,” was developed by the McDermott Library’s Social Sciences Bibliographer and Reference Librarian, Frances K. Scott, in support of the 55th Academy Assembly to be held at the United States Air Force Academy, 3 – 5 February 2014.

Most items cited in the bibliography are included in the McDermott Library’s collections, including on-line databases. This year’s topic will focus on America’s relationship with India. The subject is of deep interest to both the United States military and policy makers. Relations between the United States and India have emerged as one of the most important global relationships in the 21st Century. This year’s Assembly will examine the implications of India’s ascension in terms of the United States’ foreign, economic, and military policy. The conference seeks to answer these two main questions:

What are the implications of India’s ascension on the geopolitical outlook for the Asia-Pacific region and larger international community? and

How do developments in the various elements of Indian power (diplomatic, military, economic, and soft) impact relations between it and the U.S.?

If you are a participant in this year’s Academy Assembly (the Academy’s oldest

continuing annual event), we welcome you to your United States Air Force Academy. We hope that your stay in the Colorado Springs area will be rewarding and enjoyable and that you find this year’s topic intellectually challenging.

This and all previous issues of the Special Bibliography Series are available on the library’s web site at: http://afac.sdp.sirsi.net/client/cadet/?rm=SPECIAL+BIBLIO0%7C%7C%7C1%7C%7C%7C0%7C%7C%7Ctrue
