    HALO school...freefall...and even HAHO for thelucky. You do all that and more at this school. This is one of the easierschools the Army has to offer...as long as you can learn to freefall fairlywell. If not...it becomes a difficult school to say the least.

    Course Objec !"es:

    Train 0ersonnel to be 1ualified military free*fall 0arachutists. This includesmilitary free*fall 0arachute ground training2 0hysiological training& bodystabili3ation -vertical wind tunnel/& basic aircraft 0rocedures& combate1ui0ment -rucksack and wea0on/2 advanced aircraft 0rocedures toinclude individual e4its with combat e1ui0ment& mass e4its& grou0inge4ercises& night airborne o0erations& and life*su00ort e1ui0ment -o4ygenmask and bottles/ and 0rocedures with high*altitude airborne o0erations.

    !tudents must re0ort to the ?@T not later than >C77 on the re0ort datelisted in the Army Training Re1uirements and Resources !ystem -ATRR!/&$! =6:*8;;>. Officers and enlisted 0ersonnel arriving 0rior to the classstart date will re0ort to the )oon Hall billeting office for room assignmentsor to obtain a statement of nonfilterability. Reservations for )oon Hallmay be made by calling -:>7/ ;;:.

    $uring airborne o0erations -weeks two through four/& students will bebilleted at Y('& Ari3ona. o reservations are necessary& and roomassignments are made 0rior to arrival at Y('. Yuma (roving 'round willnot issue statements of nonfilterability.

    !tudents re0orting for in0rocessing must have their medical records -withthe original &'##ro"e & HALO 0hysical which must be current within =years from graduation date/& a current 0anore4 dental 4*ray& current A%

    Orders to the )%%(# us state that government 1uarters are availableat %ort 5ragg for D>; 0er day and at Y(' for D9 0er day. 'overnment

    mess facilities are not always available because of the training schedule.The use of government mess facilities adversely affects the 0erformanceof the mission. 'overnment mess is not available at Y('& Ari3ona. Thereare eating establishments on Y(' within > < mile from billeting. Thenearest town is Yuma which is =8 miles away.

    Orders us state the tem0orary duty -T$Y/ itinerary is E%ort 5ragg&orth #arolina& to Yuma (roving 'round& Ari3ona& and return to home

    stations or ne4t duty assignment.F This facilitates funding the individualsreturn tickets& es0ecially those individuals on T$Y en route to their ne4tduty assignment.

    !tudents on se0arate rations or 0er diem will 0rovide for their own mealsduring training. #om0any 5& =d 5attalion& >st !@T'-A/& will not issuemeal cards.

    !tudents with meal cards us arrange for se0arate rations or 0er diem0rior to de0arture from their 0arent unit.

    #om0any 5 will e4tend class dates to achieve course graduation standardsin the event academic re1uirements are not met because of adverseweather conditions or air scheduling conflicts. !tudents will remain in thecourse until the rescheduled graduation dates or return to their 0arent

    0osition or selected $O$ 0ersonnel or allied 0ersonnel who are 1ualifiedmilitary 0arachutists. "ffective > October >::8& Army students re0ortingto military free*fall training must have a memorandum confirmingassignment to a military free*fall coded 0osition at in0rocessing.(ersonnel re0orting without the re1uired memorandum will not be enteredinto training. )ust have 0assed the high*altitude& low*o0ening -HALO/0hysical e4amination IA@ AR & #ha0ter 8& 0aragra0h 9& and mustre0ort with com0lete medical records& including original HALOe4amination& on day of in0rocessing. !chool must be com0leted withintwo years of the date on the 0hysical. )ust also re0ort with a

    !tudents will bring the following uniforms and e1ui0mentJ

    Two sets of their duty uniform -i.e.& battle dress uniform 5$+B& utilities&etc./2 headgear -5$+ or utility ca0 with rank and insignia/2 five brown T*shirts& five 0airs of black nylon running shorts& and five 0airs of olive drabsocks2 and one set of the gray Army 0hysical training uniform or sisterservice e1uivalent. T*shirts will not have logos on them. !tudents willwear unit issue sweat suits during the winter months.

    One 0air of military*ty0e gloves -flight gloves or black issue areacce0table/. Recommend that during the cold weather months gloveshave good insulation without sacrificing de4terity.

    otebook& 0en 0encil& and a good flashlight -mini mag recommended/.

    5lack combat boots or ungle boots -lace through eyelet ty0e/ that meetthe standards outlined in AR ;C7*>& @ear and A00earance of Army+niforms and Insignia -> !e0tember >::=/& are acce0table. 5oots witho0en*hook eyelets are unacce0table for wear.

    @eek One @eek one begins with the usual Army drill of In*0rocessing& weigh*in&e1ui0ment issue& etc. You are assigned an instructor and a um0 buddy-about your same height and weight so you fall at about the same rate/.Your instructor stays with you the whole time. You learn all about the ramair 0arachute& emergency 0rocedures& rigging 0rocedures& re0ack0rocedures& etc. You do table drills to learn how to fall 0ro0erly andstable& and also get into the hanging harness to 0ractice emergency0rocedures -malfunctions& cutaways& entanglements& etc./. You also cover

    um0 commands and the o4ygen system. Then the fun beginsK %irst& youget into the wind tunnel. This is a massive fan that blow at s0eeds u0 to>87m0h...it actually lifts you and su00orts you in the air to simulatefreefallK You go through all the e0Ms& and you fine tune your body 0osition.

    um0& um0& um0...and you will also um0. %rom hereon out it is 0retty much all um0ing. You begin bye4iting at >7777ft with no e1ui0ment& to e4iting at=8777ft with full e1ui0ment and o4ygen. You mustremain stable& 0ull at the designated altitude -N *

    =77ft/& and land within =8m of the grou0 leader. If the weather isgood& you get to do a lot of um0s -including HAHO/. HighAltitude High O0ening um0s are um0s where you e4it atsay...>6777ft and 8 seconds later de0loy your chute. You thenglide 8*>7 kilometers -a lot more de0ending on e4it altitude andwinds/ to the target...1uite a rideK 'raduation consists ofe1ui0ment turn in& di0lomas and 0a0erwork& and the re1uisiteclass 0arty. $efinitely a 0retty fun school.
