Jose Fajardo, Jr. y su Orquesta (NYC)Son of legendary leader (“Flute King” Jose Fajardo) of the Cuban Orchestra, Fajardo y sus Estrellas, Jose Fajardo, Jr. has stood the test of time as a musician, bandleader, and now singer. After more than 30 years of experience in the music industry, Fajardo, Jr. continues to keep his father’s legacy alive. Fajardo, Jr. has performed and/or recorded with some of the greatest Latin musicians of all time. Some of these include Jose Fajardo, Johnny Pacheco, Larry Harlow, Orchestra Broadway, Azuquita, Alfredo De La Fe, Tipica 73, Oscar D’Leon, Jose Alberto, Cachao, Cano Estremera, La Sonora Mantancera, Johnny Ray, Grupo Imagen, Luisito Carrión, Pedro Jesus, Edgar Joel, Johnny Almendra, Tito Puente, Sheila E., Nino Segarra, and many others.Since the death of his father in 2001, Fajardo, Jr. has been the director of the orchestra his father created in 1949 and has changed the traditional sound of charanga music to a larger salsa sound for all generations.
Izzy Sanabria “Mr. Salsa” (Tampa, FL)Graphic artist, writer, actor, emcee-comedian, original member and official Master of Ceremonies for The Fania All Stars, Izzy Sanabria is a multi-talented individualist that played a major role in promoting New York’s Latino music and culture during the 1970s. In 1978, GQ Magazine referred to Izzy as “Mr. Salsa” because he almost single-handedly popularized the term “Salsa” (during the 1970s) which the world now recognizes as the name for New York’s Latin Music.Izzy has a long list of accomplishments, some of which include: being the creator/publisher of Latin NY Magazine from 1973-1985, hosting a NY TV show called “Salsa” (a Latino version of “Soul Train”), and presenting The Latin NY Music Awards (the first Salsa Awards which brought international attention and recognition to Latin music and set off the world-wide salsa explosion). Izzy’s album cover designs and illustrations also set new standards of quality in Latin music packaging and provided the world with its first visual imagery of Salsa. For his numerous contributions to Latin music, Izzy was inducted into the International Latin Music Hall of Fame on April 5, 2000.
