SPECIAL EDUCATION INTERN Internship Description: The Attleboro Center is a 12-bed Community Based Acute Treatment (CBAT) facility

located in Attleboro, Massachusetts. The program provides acute psychiatric stabilization services to

adolescents between the ages of 12-18 years. The tutoring program is facilitated by a certified classroom teacher and is conducted Monday through Friday from 9:00-11:00 am during the regular school year. We are

seeking student interns who would be available to assist with the facilitation of daily tutoring as well as be

available to provide individual tutoring/academic assistance to residents in the program.

Qualifications: - Work with a diverse adolescent population with a range of psychiatric and behavioral needs.

- Assist with the development and implementation of lesson plans.

- Learn and utilize effective behavior management techniques in a classroom setting.

EDUCATION & PUBLIC PROGRAMS INTERNSHIP Internship Description: Interning at the ITHF&M is a wonderful opportunity for undergraduate and graduate

students to obtain comprehensive training in the fields of museum studies, archival administration, library

management, educational and public program development, preservation, video production, and historical scholarship. The internship program is project-oriented and designed to coincide with student interests and

professional goals. Working with a member of the museum staff, all interns receive one-on-one attention in

their chosen fields. Interns assist in the planning and implementation of programs for all audiences including

schools. Interns gain experience researching and creating programs tied state and National Curriculum

Standards. Possible areas of program development include history, social studies, math, science, art, physical

education and health. Interns assist in facilitating school and group tours, and create new ideas for public and

family programming. Interns also play a role in research and outreach to area schools, groups and attractions.

Interns spend time as part of the front line staff, giving tours and interacting with visitors to develop customer

service and public speaking skills.

Qualifications: Internships are open to college juniors and seniors and graduate students and are available all year round. The International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum asks a commitment of at least 100 hours (8

hours a week) although accommodations can be made for certain situations. Positions are competitive and

interviews will be requested of qualified candidates. The number of interns varies per semester depending on the availability of projects. Every effort will be made to match the skills and interests of the prospective

interns with the priorities of the department.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

- Must have excellent descriptive writing skills

- Must have basic computer knowledge, including databases (preferably Access-based databases) - Ability to learn and ask questions

- Interest in Museum Studies, Education/Museum Education, Informal Education, Public Programming,

History, American Studies, Historic/Cultural Preservation, Architecture

If you have a desire to work with homeless families and would like to gain a better understanding of the effects of homelessness on children/parents, the FOCUS / Family Resource Center, a program of Community Care Services, provides a wonderful learning

opportunity. The Family Resource Center provides temporary housing and placement services for up to seven homeless families at

any given time. While at the shelter, each family receives a comprehensive assessment of housing and financial needs. Our

professional staff works with each family individually to assist them with case management, finding daycare, enrolling children in school, and to ensure that all medical and mental health needs are met. Along with these services, our guests are required to attend

enrichment classes that center on acquiring information on nutrition, personal growth, parenting, and a variety of other resources.

CAAP MENTOR

Internship Description: BASIC FUNCTIONS: CAAP (Crusade Adventure and Academic Program) is a 10 week

high intensity program designed to build self-esteem and confidence in middle school aged Crusaders by

having them participate in a variety of problem solving tasks, group challenges and healthy risk taking

adventures. The program runs for 10 consecutive Saturdays in the fall from October – December and again

from March - May. Mentors are role models who work in pairs with large and small groups of middle schoolers

to implement the CAAP curriculum.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Work directly with middle school Crusaders in large and small groups.

Implement curriculum and initiate teambuilding activities.

Provide direct supervision of Crusaders in the program and in the community.

Promote academic success and personal development.

Develop strong relationships with Crusaders.

Serve as a positive role model throughout the program.

Must commit to all 20 sessions.

Qualifications: Education: Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.

Experience: Experience working with youth; especially diverse populations.

Special Skills: This position requires the ability to engage, motivate and sustain middle school children in

planned activities. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, able to take initiative and be energetic!

He/she should be prepared to exert a high level of physical energy on a daily basis. He/she must also be able

to work as part of a dynamic team. Must be reliable and responsible.

youth and their families.

Summer 2011 Internship Civic Participation Intern

The MinKwon Center for Community Action (formerly YKASEC) was established in 1984 to meet the needs and concerns of the Korean American community through our five program areas: Community Organizing and Advocacy, Social and Legal Services, Civic Participation, Youth Empowerment, and Culture. Since our founding, we have made a profound

presence in the Korean American community through various grassroots organizing, education, and advocacy initiatives that address important community issues, including immigration policies at the national, state and city levels, voter

rights, and culture awareness. The MinKwon Center places a special emphasis on meeting the needs of our marginalized community members, including youth, elderly, recent immigrants, low-income residents, and limited-English-proficient

residents. More recently, it has expanded its program areas to work with the Chinese American community as well. The MinKwon Center’s Civic Participation Program, established in 1990, plays a critical role in building a strong base

of empowered Korean American and immigrant community members in New York City by mobilizing the community towards active and engaged civic participation.

The MinKwon Center for Community Action (formerly YKASEC) was established in 1984 to meet the needs and concerns of the Korean American community through our five program areas: Community Organizing and Advocacy, Social and Legal Services, Civic Participation, Youth Empowerment, and Culture. Since our founding, we have made a profound

presence in the Korean American community through various grassroots organizing, education, and advocacy initiatives that address important community issues, including immigration policies at the national, state and city levels, voter

rights, and culture awareness. The MinKwon Center places a special emphasis on meeting the needs of our marginalized community members, including youth, elderly, recent immigrants, low-income residents, and limited-English-proficient

residents. More recently, it has expanded its program areas to work with the Chinese American community as well. The MinKwon Center is offering an exciting Development/Capacity-Building internship. The development work will

consist of seeking funds and resources to support the work of the organization in all five program areas and administration, and the capacity-building work will involve strengthening our internal processes and procedures to strengthen our foundation. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable development, administrative, and non-profit

experience. The intern will work directly with the Development Associate and Administrative Manager. Internship Description- Perform research on prospective funders

- Draft, edit, and revise funding proposals, letters of inquiry, and grant reports - Learn to navigate, customize, and import data into our custom database

- Provide support for fundraising events and initiatives - Assist with maintaining comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date files, records, and systems

- Perform research on internal systems and improvements - Provide additional administrative support as needed

Details of Internship - Supervision: Intern is supervised by the Development Coordinator and the Administrative Director.
