1. What are your primary job duties?I oversee the daily operations of the department of University Recreation at the University of Arkansas. This includes planning for future growth, setting goals and initiatives, working

with the eight program areas we offer, and providing the best experience possible for students, staff and faculty.

2. What is your favorite part about working in campus recreation? The students. It is so much fun to interact with and watch our student employees grow professionally. I also have had the opportunity to work closely with the student government and seek feedback about our programs and events. We have some incredible student leaders at the University of Arkansas.

3. What is new to U of A students this fall?We opened our new satellite fitness center in mid-March, several months later than was anticipated.

While we officially opened the doors in April, we can now begin to heavily market this facility to our students, staff, and faculty on campus. The satellite facility offers modern, state-of-the-art cardiovascular equipment with built–in televisions and a group exercise room to facilitate additional classes that our students enjoy and request.

4. What is your favorite healthy meal?My wife’s chicken couscous salad. The salad contains chicken, couscous, and fresh basil and veggies from our garden.

5. How do you stay active with your busy schedule?I make time to work out and take advantage of the recreational facilities and activities on campus. Typically, I’m safe from meetings and events at 6:00 a.m., so I take advantage of that time to exercise. The workout is my most important meeting of the day. Nothing beats a good sweat to start the day and keep you alert. Like others probably are, I’m anxious to begin opening the facility at 5:30 a.m. to ensure I get my work out in, regardless of what time my first meeting is.

6. What are your hobbies?Outside of spending time with my wife, Nicole, and son, Andrew, I enjoy getting out and riding many of the local bike “routes” around Northwest Arkansas. I also try to get out and play golf as often as I can.

University Recreation is one of the largest employers of students on the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville Campus. We employ over 300 students each year. Our employees do it all, from serving as lifeguards at the pool to refereeing on the sports fields.

University Recreation offers two interview sessions every year. One is usually held in November/ December for spring positions and one is usually held in April for summer/fall positions. If you are interested in employment with UREC, these are the major times throughout the year when employ-ment opportunities arise. To apply for open positions, visit http://jobs.uark.edu/. Only OPEN positions are posted on this website. If positions are not listed, then all positions have been filled at that time.

These interviews will give selected candidates the opportunity to learn more about each position, meet some of our current student staff members and interview with professional staff on a first come, first serve basis.

Benefits of UREC employment include: • competitive pay • flexible scheduling • work during school breaks • leadership development • fun work environment • opportunities to work special events • free locker/ towel service • two free guest passes per semester
