Registration for
2018-2019
Ridge High School Counseling Department
Current 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students met in the PAC with the counselors on February 1 to review the information contained in this presentation, as well as the first segment of the Program of Studies. Students received a hard copy of the first 13 pages of the Program of Studies, the subject area flowcharts, and a Course Selection Sheet.
Requirements for Graduation

● Adhere to Attendance Policy

Option II
Athletic Opportunities
Off-Site PE Minimum of 150 minutes per week outside of school
Ridge Sports
Athletes can take 2 MPs of SH
- Fall Sport – MP1 & MP2
- Winter Sport – MP2 & MP3
- Spring Sport – MP3 & MP4
- Marching Band – MP1 & MP2
Earn 1.75 credits per season
● All students must take Health at Ridge when offered for their grade.
● Must replace PE with a Study Hall (can have 2 SHs), not a class.
● Application deadlines will be posted on the Option II website.
● You must apply separately for each marking period.

Academic Opportunities
● Remediate a course over the summer
● Earn original credit for courses not offered at Ridge● Must take all graduation requirements at Ridge
● Exceptions for Shared-Time VoTech students
● Can earn original credit for Financial Literacy through a hybrid online/in-person course taught by Ridge staff● This is the exception to the above rule
● Course is taught online, but assessments are given at Ridge
● Taking Financial Literacy online through Educere or NJVS is no longer an option.
Option II Applications for summer/fall academic
experiences are due June 15th.

Academic Opportunities
● Independent Study (grades 11 & 12)● To further explore a content area beyond what is
offered at Ridge
● No credit awarded
● With an RHS faculty member
● Must be approved by administration
● Start by talking to the teacher
● Internships (grade 12)● No credit awarded
● During or outside of school hours
● Must be approved by Mr. Krause

Level Changes
● Permitted through the first marking period only
● Dependent upon room in the class
● May have to rearrange your schedule
● Your grades will follow you, and will not be weighted or recalculated!
Adding and Dropping Courses
● Adding an elective instead of a Study Hall● Needs administrative approval
● Will only be approved if there is room in the class, and if the change will not affect your other scheduled courses
● Dropping a class for a Study Hall● Needs administrative approval
● Cannot already have a scheduled SH (Option II SH is OK)
No elective switches after April 6, 2018!
GRADE Criteria
● In Language Arts and Science:● Must earn A- to bump up to Honors or AP
● Must earn B- to maintain honors/AP level
If you do not maintain Honors/AP criteria,
you will automatically be dropped at the end of the year.
However, you will not automatically be moved to a higher level if
you meet the criteria at the end of the year.
GRADE Criteria
● In World Languages:● Check prerequisites
● Must earn A- to bump up to Honors or AP
● Must earn B- to maintain honors/AP level
● Must earn a C- or better to move on to the next CP level
If you do not maintain Honors/AP criteria,

Late Qualification Form for
Honors/AP
● You should fill out a Late Qualification Form if/when:
● You didn’t qualify for the honors/AP class at the time of scheduling, but your final grade is such that you meet the criteria at the end of the year
● You qualified for honors/AP but didn’t sign up for it at the time of scheduling
● You definitely want to enroll in the Honors/AP class
● Students will not automatically be moved to the higher level. This form is required.
Late Qualification Forms
will be available beginning mid-June.
Due July 6, 2018
Honors/AP Appeals
● You must fill out an Appeal form if:● You do not meet the grade criteria, but have an
extenuating circumstance and want to be in the Honors/AP level next year
● Appeals must be written by the student (not the parent)
Honors/AP Appeal Forms
will be available beginning mid-June.

Course Selection Agreement
● Changes to courses are not permitted after

Music ● The only way to guarantee music will be in your schedule is to select it as a primary choice elective
Business ● Honors Accounting and Honors Personal Finance are both available for college credit through RVCC (Grades 11 & 12 only; minimum GPA of 3.0 required)
PE/SH ● Can have 2 study halls (a scheduled SH plus an additional SH through Option II)
SAT Subject Tests
● You may wish to take them at the end of the year if you’re in an honors or AP course– see your counselor and/or teacher
