Setting Yourself Up For Success

Cedar have completed 12 9.2 upgrades with 4 more in flight

With a wealth of experience across many clients, we wanted to share our top 5 tips on getting a head start before your upgrade and beyond

Our Top 5 Tips on Upgrading to 9.2

1.Simplify

2.Review your Architecture

3.Get a better UI

4.Get Regular Fixes

5.Access New Features

1. Simplify – Your System

Review your customisations early and see what can be retired

If not retired, what can be made cleaner?

Could the customisation be reworked as a bolt on?

Review your reporting strategy

Can in line pivots replace any existing reports?

BI Publisher replaces Crystal Reports – get a head start

1. Simplify – Your Test Strategy

PUM requires more regular repeatable testing

Develop a PUM strategy early on

Use the upgrade as an opportunity to capture and document

these tests

Consider setting up and using PeopleSoft Test Framework

2. Review Your Architecture

Revisit your architecture early on

Is Cloud an option for you?

* Check out Graham Smith’s session at 12h10

We always arrange an architecture Workshop

Confirm the hardware

PT, Image, OS and DB versions

Confirm environments required

3. Get a better UI - Fluid

Fluid was delivered with 8.54

It makes PeopleSoft mobile

Responsive interface - one component works on a PC, tablet or

phone

It resizes automatically and reacts intuitively based on the

technology

3. Get a better UI – Classic Manager Dashboard

3. Get a better UI – Fluid Manager Dashboard

3. Get a better UI – Fluid Approvals

3. Get a better UI – Fluid Roll Out

Classic is still provided by default for most pages

Many pages fluid enabled at 9.2, but must be activated

All new pages will be delivered as standard in fluid

Existing pages are be converted and released in PUM images

* Check out Simon Hird’s Fluid session at 14h40

4. Get Regular Fixes – The PUM

PeopleSoft produce a new image roughly every 3 months

Images are cumulative

During an upgrade, you stick with an image version for stability

Oracle issues found in System Test or UAT are taken ad hoc

When applying individual fixes, they have linked fixes

4. Get Regular Fixes – The PUM

Oracle certifies 9.2 upgrades on certain Image versions

If going to a higher Image, the upgrade is a two step process

Demo will be at the latest image selected

An IP database will be required for future MTPs that capture

tools objects at the upgrade certified version

4. Get Regular Fixes – The PUM

5. Access New Features – In addition to the PUM

Out-of-the-box WorkCenters to increase user job effectiveness

Mobile Capability

Informative guides and resources to help the end users functionality

Global search and guided navigation will help enhance user

efficiency

5. Access New Features

What type of upgrade are you planning?

Any key features to leverage during the upgrade?

Technical upgrade to reduce risk?

Then a 3 – 5 year 9.2 optimisation plan post upgrade

9.2 gives you the platform for future enhancements, wherever your users are and whatever they need – But you need to get there first!
