Maintaining Our Witness in Trials
1 Peter 2:11-12
You are being watched. That’s always a good thing to remember as we interact with people at work or in the community. How we respond to frustrations, annoyances, difficulties, and temptations is a witness for Christianity, and the last thing we want to do is misrepresent Christ. Many times, challenging situations arise unexpectedly. Therefore, it’s important that we prepare ourselves beforehand—then we’ll be equipped to display Christlikeness, and our witness will not be derailed. To be ready…Stay in God’s Word. Knowing Scripture helps you view situations from God’s perspective and know how He would have you respond. Pray. Challenge yourself to make prayer an immediate response to your problems. When you bring your concerns to God, His peace will guard your heart and mind, which is a powerful witness to a watching world (Phil. 4:6-7).Trust and obey. When you rely on God’s promises, your peace and confidence in God will stand out to those who are consumed with fear and anxiety.Remember whose you are. You belong to God and have been purchased by the precious blood of Christ (1 Peter 1:17-19). Your life is a display of God’s grace, and your character, conduct, and conversation should always reflect Christ.
Be gracious and kind to others. Don’t let your own troubles erupt into anger and blame. Small acts of kindness and a forgiving spirit are a tremendous witness in a world where such things are rare. Aggravations and problems seem like hindrances to us, but our response can change someone’s life if it reflects the love of Jesus Christ.
Breast Cancer Awareness
Other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women. Getting mammograms regularly can lower the risk of dying
from breast cancer. If you are 50 to 74 years old, be sure to have a screening mammogram every two years. If you are 40 to 49 years old, talk to your doctor about when to start and how often to get a screening mammogram.
Each year in the United States, more than 200,000 women get breast cancer and more than 40,000 women die from the disease.
Men also get breast cancer, but it is not very common. Each year in the United States, about 2,000 men get breast cancer and about 400 men die from the disease.
Most breast cancers are found in women who are 50 years old or older, but breast cancer also affects younger women. About 11% of all new cases of breast cancer in the United States are found in women younger than 45 years of age.
Studies show that women with disabilities are less likely than women without disabilities to have received a mammogram during the past two years.
Black women have the highest breast cancer death rates of all racial and ethnic groups and are 40% more likely to die of breast cancer than white women.
COLUMBUS DAYColumbus Day was once called Discovery
Day. The discovery of America took place before dawn on October 12, 1492, when the lookout on the Pinta cried, “Tierra!”
The son of the Admiral, Ferdinand Columbus, wrote, “After all had given thanks unto our Lord, kneeling on the ground and kissing it with tears of joy for His great favor to them, the Admiral arose and gave the island the name of San Salvador, which means Holy Savior.”
Columbus has gotten a bad rap lately, but it is not surprising. Has not the world always tried to discredit Christians? It’s easier to discredit a man of God than it is to duplicate his feat.
Thoughts for the Month of October
God is worth waiting for; His time is always best. Each new day gives us new reasons to praise the
Lord. The purest treasure mortal times afford is a
spotless reputation. For hope today, remember the end of the story –
eternity with God. Praise to God comes naturally when you count
your blessings. Do our choices bring honor to God or to us? A buried seed brings fruit; a selfless life reaps an
eternal harvest. The secret of peace is to give every anxious care to
God. The love of God for us is revealed in His letter to
us – the Bible. Christ came to seek and to save the lost. Don’t tell God how big your giants are. Tell your
giants how big your God is. When God saves us, our sins are forgiven forever. By God’s grace, we can reflect His light in the
dark times. In prayer, God can still our hearts and quiet our
minds. No life is more secure than a life surrendered to
God. Let our days be filled with a longing – and the
opportunities – to tell our story of Jesus. The voice of sin may be loud, but the voice of
forgiveness is louder. The faith that continues to the end gives proof that
it was genuine in the beginning.
The Bible is the bread of life, and it never gets stale.
Only one road leads to heaven – Jesus Christ is the way.
God does more than hear words; He reads hearts. The call of God can always be heard. Let your speech be better than silence; otherwise
be silent. Our faith is stretched by exchanging our weakness
for God’s strength. God often uses bitter experiences to make us
better. Lives rooted in God’s unchanging grace can never
be uprooted. Salvation is receiving a new life.

Wise Words1. Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you pull out when in trouble, but it is a "steering wheel" that directs the right
path throughout.2. So, why is a car's windshield so large and the rear-view mirror is so small? Because our PAST is not as important
as our FUTURE. So, look ahead and move on.3. Friendship is like a BOOK. It takes few seconds to burn, but it takes years to write.4. All things in life are temporary. If going well, enjoy it, they will not last forever. If going wrong, don't worry, they
can't last long either.5. Old friends are Gold! New friends are Diamond! If you get a Diamond, don't forget the Gold! Because to hold a
Diamond, you always need a base of Gold!
6. Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, GOD smiles from above and says, "Relax, sweetheart, it's just a bend, not the end!
7. When GOD solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities; when GOD doesn't solve your problems, HE has faith in your abilities.
8. A blind person asked St. Anthony: "Can there be anything worse than losing eye sight?" He replied: "Yes, losing your vision!"
9. When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them, and sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has prayed for you.
10. WORRYING does not take away tomorrow's TROUBLES; it takes away today's PEACE.
