Letter from the Vice Chief

Brothers, Welcome to Tamegonit Lodge’s Fall Induction #2 for 2018! Check in will start at 4:00 PM and end at 9:00 PM. If you are unsure on where activities will be located there is a map located on page 3 of this packet.

This weekend is a very busy weekend for everyone in and outside of the Lodge. There will be nearly 700 people in attendance this weekend. For those of you who are a member in our Order there will be 10 ceremonies taking place this weekend: 4 Pre-Ordeal, 3 Ordeal and 3 Brotherhood. All of these ceremonies will now be held at Whippoorwill Council Ring in an effort to expose more new members of the lodge to our Lodge’s council ring.

There are several other changes to note: We will be performing an Arrowmen service project in order to work on the Whippoorwill Trail on Saturday morning. This project is for youth and adult Arrowmen. We have consolidated and moved the Saturday cracker barrel later in hopes that the new Ordeals and Arrowmen can stay for multiple ceremonies and increase audience attendance.

This is also considered a troop-friendly campout, which means for those of you who are not in the Order will have activities to be a part of including Trail to Eagle. I hope you all enjoy this weekend full of Service and Brotherhood!

Yours in Brotherhood,

Brian Blood | Vice Chief of Inductions

Supplemental Programming

Mission & Purpose of the Order of the Arrow

For over 100 years, the Order of the Arrow (OA) has recognized Scouts and Scout-ers who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. This recogni-tion provides encouragement for others to live these ideals as well. Arrowmen are known for maintaining camping traditions and spirit, promoting year-round and long term resident camping, and providing cheerful service to others. OA service, activities, adventures, and training for youth and adults are models of quality lead-ership development and programming that enrich and help to extend Scouting to America's youth.

Mission

The mission of the Order of the Arrow is to fulfill its purpose as an integral part of the Boy Scouts of America through positive youth leadership under the guidance of selected capable adults.

Purpose

As Scouting’s National Honor Society, our purpose is to:

Recognize those who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives and through that recognition cause others to conduct themselves in a way that warrants similar recognition.

Promote camping, responsible outdoor adventure, and environmental steward-ship as essential components of every Scout’s experience, in the unit, year-round, and in summer camp.

Develop leaders with the willingness, character, spirit and ability to advance the activities of their units, our Brotherhood, Scouting, and ultimately our nation.

Crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheer-ful service to others.

The Order of the Arrow High Adventure program provides Scouts between ages 14-20 the opportunity to experience one of the four Boy Scouts of America’s national high adventure bases on a whole new level. These programs provide Scouts with an “Adventure like No Other.” They will have the chance to provide cheerful service to the base, and also enjoy all the unique activities that are offered. Scouts will be able to build friendships along their journey and at a discounted rate compared to troop based treks. Contact the Council Service

Center if you are interested in Order of the Arrow High Adventure.

Ocean Adventure: The Order of the Arrow Ocean Adventure program is a 7 day program conducted in the Florida Keys. The service portion of the adventure will be primarily based out of the Dry Tortugas National Park located 70 miles from Key West. Participants will have the opportunity to snorkel, kayak, paddle board and swim.

Summit Experience: The Order of the Arrow Summit Experience program is an experience like no other. For 8 days, you will join together with Arrowmen from around the country and experience all that the Summit in West Virginia has to offer. Four days of the program will be focused on building or maintaining trails around the Summit, and the New River Gorge National River Area. The remainder of the experience will revolve around white water kayaking and rafting, along with mountain biking, climbing, and participation in other Summit activities.

Trail Crew: The Order of the Arrow Trail Crew program is one of the best ways to experience Scouting's premier high adventure base, Philmont Scout Ranch. For two weeks, participants see and experience all that Philmont has to offer and much more.

Wilderness Voyage: The Order of the Arrow Wilderness Voyage program is an experience like no other. For two weeks, you will join together with Arrowmen from around the country and experience all that the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northern Minnesota has to offer.
