Bush made that evening as he addressed the nation: “Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America.” As I listened that somber night, I remembered a psalm I had studied years ago. David wrote Psalm 11 probably while being hunted by King Saul. With bor- derline insane paranoia, Saul had begun seeking David’s life, believing the young man was out to get him and take his position as king. David was on the run. As he wrote in the first part of this psalm, he had fled as a bird to the mountain. And in that hiding place, momentarily removed from danger, he asked this question: “If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do?” Great question! Webster tells us a foundation is the “basis . . . upon which something stands or is supported.” 2 Every house, every significant structure, every building has a foundation …. Destroy the building’s foundation, and you topple the building. This was precisely David’s point. He wasn’t referring to structures. No house or building was in his mind, and there’s no reference to such in this psalm. Instead, this psalm is about life. David was saying that if the foundation of a life is destroyed, that life crumbles. But if the foundation remains secure, no amount of stress—in David’s case, no attack by Saul—can cause a life to frac- ture or crumble. In the same way, we must never forget that no attack of terrorists or any other Satanic weapon can cause our lives to fracture of crumble when the foundation of our faith and future is the solid rock of Jesus Christ! *Times listed are central standard time Visit www.insight.org for Chuck Swindoll’s entire article, An Anniversary Amer- ica Will Never Forget.

A Word From Walt

Even if it’s difficult to remember where we were yesterday, most of us can easily remember where we were ten years ago this morning – Tues-day, September 11, 2001.

For eighty-five minutes* the world stood still … and was changed for-ever: ▪ 7:45 a.m. American #77 crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center ▪ 8:03 a.m. United #175 crashed into the south tower of the World Trade Center ▪ 8:43 a.m. American #77 crashed into the Pentagon ▪ 9:10 a.m. United #93 crashed near Somerset, Pennsylvania

Chuck Swindoll remembers and reflects on a statement President George W. Bush made that evening as he addressed the nation:

“Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America.”

As I listened that somber night, I remembered a psalm I had studied years ago. David wrote Psalm 11 probably while being hunted by King Saul. TRUNK OR TREAT Mark your calendar for this fun event for the whole family on Sunday, October 30.

Jonathan’s Journey… Coming to you from the Family Retreat at Henry Horton State Park...

WHAT A GREAT FAMILY RETREAT! This morning we are finishing up the 2011 Family Retreat at Henry Horton State Park! I know several people are already back in Nashville and worshipping at the BHCC building this morning, but many of us are still ―retreating!‖

We have had such a wonderful weekend here in Chapel Hill, TN, and we are thrilled that almost 400 people from the BHCC family joined us for the weekend. We had great classes led by our own Dick Garner and guest speaker David Rubio. We had fun sessions for the kids hosted by Kristin and Zack Green and special guests Linda and Buddy Williams! We had wonderful entertainment from Kerry Stiles, Joy Brown, and many others. We had incredible fellowship with one another. Really, the Family Retreat is just a great time enjoying God’s nature and a great time enjoying each other’s company!

Special thanks to David and Janelle White, Mary Kate Fisher, and Janet Dickerson for their work to plan and coordinate the Family Retreat and to the whole Church-Wide Events team for their work behind the scenes to make it all come together! It won’t be long until our next Family Retreat in 2013!

If you missed the first video and want to catch up, you can come to the Main Auditorium today at 5:15 or Wednesday at 5:45. The first video will be replayed at those times. We hope many of you will join us again this Wednesday night for our roundtable discussion! Come early and fill in so we can use all the chairs!

I hope you have all had a great weekend! The Family Retreat may be over...but so many good things are still to come! Be sure to check out the rest of the bulletin for info on all upcoming events!
