We welcomed 30 incoming Kindergarten students and their families on Monday, we are already planning for next year and it was wonderful to see our future Guilford Tigers! On Tuesday, our 4th graders enjoyed a day at the farm as part of their Days of Taste learning, understanding how chefs use food from local farms to create a variety of flavors. Our 5th graders were able to visit their middle school, this got them excited about next year! We finally had our field day on Wednesday and it was a huge success! Thank you to the PTA for providing all students and staff a GES Field Day shirt! Thanks to all the parent volunteers who helped as well, we couldn’t have done it without you. Our Evening of Excellence was a wonderful celebration of our students, we had 165 families sign-in. Congratulations to all of our students for their hard work this year. Fifth grade is spending today in Washington DC as a follow up to all the learning about government this year. They were extremely excited about this trip. After all of these activities, we are glad to have an extra day this weekend. Don’t forget that Monday is Memorial Day, while we do not have school, it is a great day to spend time with family and remember those who are no longer with us. Have a wonderful and restful weekend! Will your child be attending Guilford for the 2016-17 school year? We are in the process of compiling class lists for next year. If your child will be attending a school other than Guilford Elementary for the 2016-2017 school year, please let us know right away by completing and returning the tear-off on the back of this newsletter no later than Monday, June 6, 2016. Or you may contact Ms. Brown in the main office, 410-880-5930, to let her know where your child(ren) will attend school next year.

Thank you for letting us know your plans as soon as possible. This information will help in compiling the class lists more accurately.

Last Day of School is Friday, June 17 - The Maryland State Department of Education has approved our request to waive one inclement weather day for the current academic year. The last day of school for students and teachers will be Friday, June 17, 2016.High schools will close 3 hours early on June 15. All schools will close three hours early on June 16–17, and no half-day pre-K or RECC will be held on those two days.

As we end another school year there are just a few reminders:MEDICATIONS:Please pick up your child’s medication during the last days of school. All medications that are currently in the health room need to be picked up by 1 pm on Friday, June 17th. If these medications are not picked up, they will be discarded. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Also, all medication orders for next year need to be dated after July 1st and signed by both the physician and the parent.

Medication forms for next year were sent home if your child had medication at school this year.

Kindergarten and New Student Registration – Kindergarten and New Student Registration is ongoing for the 2016-17 school year. Parents or guardians are to register students at the school serving the address where the child’s parent or guardian resides. Please visit http://www.hcpss.org/schools/kindergarten-registration/ to see a complete list of documents required for registration. Guilford Registration Hours are 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, Monday – Friday.

*Central Office will be making final staffing decisions by August 1st based on enrollment counts at that time. To ensure that our final staffing needs are met, we ask parents to register their children by Friday, July 29th. Thank you.

Pre-K Application & Registration—The Howard County Public School System offers a Pre-K program for income eligible children who will be four years old by Sept. 1, 2016.  Please visit http://www.hcpss.org/schools/pre-k-programs/ for more information. Pre-K application for Guilford should be submitted to the main office for review. Parents will be notified as to the status of their application once their application has been reviewed.

Hammond  High Summer Camps Hammond Boosters Camps!  Sign up now for Hammond HS Boosters sports and activities camps for incoming 6th thru 9th graders.  Camps run from mid-May thru beginning of August.  Signups and information is located at www.hammondboosters.org/camps/  These programs offer a great opportunity for

your student to get to know the high school coaches, learn some skills, and experience a little of the high school sports experience.  PLEASE NOTE - Basketball, wrestling and volleyball camps are held in evenings in May or June.  All other camps (Band, Baseball, Cheerleading, Football, Soccer) will be mornings during the summer break (June, July or August).  Wrestling will accept elementary and middle school aged campers.  Camp admission includes an exclusiveHammond Golden Bears t-shirt.

Summer Sports Camps at AHS   Get ready for Fall Try Outs. Check out the fantastic list of sports camps being offered this summer. Updating Family File Information - Parents may update the online Family File at any time. It is important to keep current all medical information for students including physician name, health conditions/medication, and health insurance coverage.

ID Required - Please be reminded that a picture ID (drivers license) is required when signing in to volunteer, visit or pick up students for early dismissal. This includes parents and any other persons volunteering, visiting or signing a student out for early dismissal.

DONATION REQUESTAllergy season is here and Guilford’s supply of facial tissues has been depleted.

We are asking for donations of tissues to the main office to be distributed throughout the school as needed. As always your support of the school’s needs are much appreciated.
