REGIONAL MATHEMATICAL OLYMPIAD, UP (RMO 2011) The National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM), (Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India), Mumbai holds the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO), with a view to identify and then to nurture mathematical talent amongst students who have just finished their High School. A summer school of 4 weeks duration for such students is held during summer vacations where they are brought in contact with working mathematicians who give specially designed courses, going deep in the topics regularly taught in the class, including accelerated learning in new topics and instilling the culture of mathematics in general. The Olympiad examinations are conducted in three stages, at the regional level, RMO, at national level, INMO, and finally at the international level, IMO. The RMO for 2011 will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2011 from 1 P.M. to 4 P.M. at the following centres: Agra, Aligarh, Allahabad Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Meerut and Varanasi. About 30 students selected on the basis of RMO, U.P., shall be eligible to participate in the INMO to be held on February 5, 2012 at its Lucknow centre for which T.A. will be paid by the NBHM. Merit Certificates will be awarded to these students while prizes/shields shall be given to a top few. INMO awardees are given book grant during first summer camp. Those who maintain interest in the scheme are invited for the next summer camp and are given (i) cash prize of Rs. 5000/- and (ii) a scholarship if they study mathematics in college or join the nurture programme. NBHM sponsors a team of six students to participate in International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). ELIGIBILITY : Students of class XI with mathematics as a subject, who have secured at least 80% marks in mathematics (the condition of percentage shall be waived for NTS awardees) at the High School or equivalent examination of 2010 are eligible to appear at RMO, 2011. In addition, (i) Some exceptionally bright students of class IX and X may also be permitted on the recommendation of the Centre incharge, (ii) Students who were selected in the RMO 2010 as students of class XI but not in INMO 2011 will be permitted to appear in RMO 2011. (iii) Students of class XII securing more than 85% marks in mathematics in class X and above 80% marks in mathematics in class XI will also be eligible. SYLLABUS : There is no prescribed syllabus for the test. However the candidates are advised to solve harder problems from several books using the tools and methods generally taught upto class X level. The question paper will have both English and Hindi versions. Application Form and Fees : Application in the prescribed format along with the following items must reach the Coordinator, RMO by October 24, 2011 : (i) Examination fee of Rs. 70.00 (Rupees Seventy) in the form of Bank Draft payable at Lucknow drawn in favour of Coordinator, Regional Mathematical Olympiad (candidates may also deposit the fees in cash personally at Lucknow). (ii) An attested copy of mark sheet of High School or equivalent examination. (iii) For students of class XII attested copy of mark sheet of class XI in addition to (ii). (iv) A self-addressed stamped (affix stamps of Rs. 5.00 for ordinary or Rs. 22.00 for registered post) envelope for dispatch of the admit card (for those not submitting form by hand). Admit Cards along with two years RMO papers shall be dispatched latest by October 31, 2011. Contact the Coordinator if admit card is not received by November 10, 2011. Important:

1. Students obtaining at least 80% marks in mathematics in High School or equivalent

examination of 2011 are eligible. Some students of class XII will also be allowed (see overleaf).

2. The application form must be accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope for the

dispatch of the admit card without which the admit card will not be sent. However, the

students who submit form personally at Lucknow need not to bring the envelope.
