COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS MOMENT Greetings Rockport Families!
We have had an amazing end to the school year with so many field trips, activities, and a continuation of our learning. I read an article recently about affirming and encouraging children more. We try to do this at Rockport with our Academic & PBIS initiatives, but we could always do more. Kids need to hear this affirmation and encouragement now more than ever. As we prepare for summer and the extended time kids spend at home, I want to share some of the article with you.
“In today’s world, growing up isn’t easy. Kids have a lot to figure out and adjust to, and there are big decisions to make. But, you can help guide your children towards good things and a positive future by encouraging and affirming them. Not necessarily for what they do, but simply for who they are. Not only will this lead them to a positive future, but it will create a strong relationship between the two of you. One that will carry you through difficult times and distance that can sometimes occur.
Our children need to hear and feel that we place a high value on them. They need to know we love and accept them. By knowing this, they have a support system during rough times. They know they can count on you. They know they have a cheerleader whether they excel at something or not. With that foundation, kids are ready to go into the world and face all of the obstacles, and become great parents themselves one day. They become confident and find their place in the world.”
This article challenged all of us to have a “Summer of Encouragement”. Use an affirming and encouraging statement with your child at least once every day this summer. Below you will see some affirming phrases to help you out. At Rockport Elementary we will continue to encourage, uplift, and praise each child. As always we thank you for your continued support and the opportunity to educate your child.
