INTRODUCTION
An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), known as a drone, is an aircraft without a pilot aboard.
DRONE stands for Dynamic Remotely Operated Navigation Equipment.
Its flight is either controlled by computers or under the remote control of a pilot on the ground.

An essential system for the proper working of UAV Determination of position and direction.INERTIAL NAVIGATION SYSTEM Uses a computer, motion sensors(accelerometers)
and rotation sensors(gyroscopes) to continuously calculating via dead reckoning the position, orientation and velocity of the aircraft without the need for an external reference.

Accelerometers

A dynamic sensor capable of a vast range of sensing.
Used in one of three modes:• As an inertial measurement of velocity and
position;• As a sensor of inclination, tilt, or orientation in 2
or 3 dimensions, as referenced from the acceleration of gravity (1 g = 9.8m/s2);
• As a vibration or impact (shock) sensor.

Gyroscopes

•A gyroscope is a device used primarily for navigation and measurement of angular velocity.•3-axis gyroscopes are often implemented with a 3-axis accelerometer to provide a full 6 degree-of-freedom (DoF) motion tracking system.
PRINCIPLE:• Free gyro: in the absence of external torque.

Take Over. Can be hacked. Cannot refuel in flight. Too small for transportation of materials. The vehicle is lost if the contact with the GCS is lost.
DISADVANTAGES
Amrita Viswa Vidyapeetham 19
Over the next 16 years; UAVs will become a significant component of military, civil and perhaps even commercial aviation.
It can place additional challenges on an air traffic management system.
