GATHERING TO WORSHIP
INVOCATION Rev. Lawrence *CALL TO WORSHIP Dayton Bedin, liturgist
Leader: “True generosity consists precisely in fighting to destroy the causes which nourish false charity.
False charity constrains the fearful and subdued, the "rejects of life," to extend their trembling hands. True generosity lies in striving so that these hands--whether of individuals or entire peoples--need be extended less and less in supplication, so that more and more they become human hands which work and, working, transform the world.”
Paulo Freire, Pedagogy of the Oppressed People: “Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you
can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can.” John Wesley, Letters of John Wesley
*OPENING HYMN 436 The Voice of God is Calling Meirionydd
WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS Rev. Lawrence *PASSING OF THE PEACE: Greet one another saying: “Peace be with you.” “And also with you.” CHORAL INTROIT

KIDS CANS FOR KIDS
BRING THOSE ALUMINUM CANS! Our latest metal redemption resulted 53 pounds worth $21.73 for aluminum cans and other miscellaneous metals; for a total of $351.10 thus far this year. This includes donations of aluminum cans and other miscellaneous metals. NOTE: Contributors please separate different types of metals as Atlas Metal & Iron Corp—the recycle establishment we use—requires that the different types are separated, weighed and valued individually. This relieves the volunteer (Sharon Sanita—thank you very much) who delivers the metals to Atlas of having to do the separation before delivery. Thanks to all who cooperate with this request. We will continue to send these funds to the Children’s Hospital Chaplaincy department to supply Bibles for patients and their families including Spanish Bibles and to supply other reading materials for their mobile interfaith book cart. KIDS CANS FOR KIDS – BRING THOSE ALUMINUM CANS!
FOOD FOR ALL 2016!
Yes, it’s that time again! Leaves are changing, families calling to make plans, kids making decorations…But what if there were
no food? This Thanksgiving, for many reasons, not every family will gather around a delicious meal with all the trimmings. But you can help! Denver Urban Matters and YOUR youth group are collecting these food
items to create Thanksgiving meals for families who would otherwise go without: Boxed Stuffing, Gravy (can or mix), 2 Cans Green Beans, 2 Cans Corn, Crunchy Fried Onions, Cream of Mushroom Soup, Sweet Potatoes (can or box), Canned Cranberries, Fruit Cocktail, Jell-O, Pie Filling,
Pie Crust (pre-made or mix) $10 Grocery Gift Card from our UMW(see Dorothy Musil) for the purchase of a turkey
Food For All is November 20. Please bring your items to church through the 20th and the youth will deliver them to DenUm. Thank You!

ALL SAINTS DAY
All Saints Day is October 30. The Spiritual Life Committee invites all UPark members and friends to participate in creating a special Banner to be used in worship on All Saints Day. The Banner will be in the narthex the next two Sundays and next to the banner will be a basket with leaves with double-sided tape. Write the name on the leaf in memory of departed family members and friends you want remembered and remove the tape cover and stick the leaf on the
Banner. The Banner will be brought into the sanctuary/chapel on All Saints Day. The Banner is a visual reminder of all the saints. Please take time to stop and share the name of a departed saint and then worship with us on October 30.
FAITH IN ACTION COMMITTEE
Faith In Action full committee (liaisons and executive committee members) will meet for their Fall Session on Tuesday, October 25th at 6:30 in the Osborne Parlor. Please bring an hors d’oeuvre to share. The Faith In Action (FIA) committee is in need of two additional, new volunteers: 1) An assistant for the Alternative Giving Program, and 2) A Tech Support person for the FIA 2016 Power Point. The Alternative Giving task is to help Angela Grun with the production of the booklet during the month of November; the Power Point is a file saved onto a thumb drive. It is used as an occasional showing using a personal lap top. If you can assist with either of these two tasks, please contact OliveAnn Slotta at [email protected].

ANNOUNCEMENTS
INSTALLATION OF NEW PASTOR
Sunday, November 6 at 10:00am, we are planning a very special community celebration. We will acknowledge and celebrate the ground-breaking and historical appointment of UPark’s first woman and person of color as senior pastor. We will honor our collective past and legacies, while looking forward, with great expectation, to a future filled with opportunities and God-sized possibilities. We will feature Rev. Dr. Melanie Rosa, Rev. Paul Kottke, our choir, praise & worship music and special music from Colorado’s own six time Grammy winning Jazz artist, Dianne Reeves. Our preacher for the day will be the new Bishop of the Mountain Sky area (Rocky Mountain and Yellowstone Conferences), Rev. Dr. Karen Oliveto. We will also publicly enter into covenant relationship with one another; and we will pledge our commitment (time, talent and finances) to honoring the vision, mission and goals of this one of a kind faith community.
2017 GUATEMALA MISSION TRIP
This will be a predominantly medical mission with our partner of Salud y Paz (www.saludypas.org). Besides medical professionals, we welcome any non-medical professionals who have a heart for mission and serving others. We always need things to take on our trip. Although a date has not been set for our trip, a collection container is in the collection area of the foyer to accept the following items: stickers (especially smiles) travel soaps/shampoos/lotion Christian-theme coloring books reading glasses (dollar store are fine!) brown paper lunch bags clean empty medicine bottles sidewalk chalk/bubbles inflatable beach balls Financial contributions to the Guatemala medicine account are greatly appreciated. We purchase our medicines through Salud y Paz, thus contributing to the Guatemalan economy. Indicate ‘GUATEMALA’ on your check. Most of all, we encourage new missioners to join us. We would especially like to have younger missioners with us, especially college students or high school students with a parent or guardian. Contact Team Leader, George Gramer, 303-945-1728 or [email protected].
