Noting College of CharlestonOff to a 1-1 start this year, the Cougars went 27-9 (15-5 SoCON) last season and finished second behind Davidson in the Southern Conferences South Division Fourth-year coach Bobby Cremins has his club in position to challenge for the South Division and overall conference crown this season, as Charleston boasts arguably the top backcourt in its league Cremins has more than 500 career wins to his credit, with the majority com-ing at Georgia Tech (354) He led the Cougars to the second round of the CBI last year and returns virtually his entire veteran backcourt intact Junior guard and team leader Andrew Goudelock (18.5 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 3.0 apg) is an All-SoCON can-didate and one of the top all-around shooters in the conference Goudelock shot .459 from the floor and .440 from 3-point range last season while making better than 86 percent of his free throws Senior point guard Tony White Jr. (10.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.0 apg) is the son of former Vols All-America and All-Century Team member Tony White (1984-87) White Sr. is UTs third all-time leading scorer with 2,219 career points (sixth in SEC history) White Jr. graduated from Knoxvilles Bearden High School and has played against many current Vols during summer action in Knoxvilles Pilot Rocky Top League Cremins called White Jr. an amazing story. • On Nov. 27Tennessee owns a 7-1 all-time record on Nov. 27 (5-1 home, 1-0 away, 1-0 neutral) with wins over Siena (2008), North Carolina A&T (2007), Louisiana-Lafayette (2006) Austin Peay (2000), Tennessee Tech (1994), Biscayne (1982) and South Florida (1976) and a loss at the hands of Memphis State (1990) ... This is the fourth straight season UT has played on this date.

Purdue RecapSixth-ranked Purdue edged past ninth-ranked Tennessee 73-72 Monday in the championship game of the 2009 Paradise Jam in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands ... Neither team led by more than six points in the game, which saw the Vols fall one point short as Wayne Chisms potential game-winning 3-point shot bounced off the rim with three seconds left in the game ... Tennessee was hurt by an uncharacteristic 16 turnovers and dished out a season-low nine assists ... The Vols outscored Purdue 38-24 in the paint, and the teams were even on the boards with 32 rebounds each ... UT trailed 42-41 at the half, and each team scored 31 points in the second half ... Chism scored a game-high 24 points and also led the Vols with six rebounds and two blocks ... Chism also was 7-for-7 at the foul line ... Tyler Smith totaled 10 points, four boards and three assists, and Bobby Maze added 13 points ... The Boilermakers were led by guard ETwaun Moores 22 points, while forward Robbie Hummel chipped in with 20 points and seven rebounds ... The game featured eight ties and 10 lead changes.

Tennessee Runner-Up At Paradise JamTennessee was runner-up at the 2009 US. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam, with wins over East Carolina (105-66) and DePaul (57-53) before a one-point loss to sixth-ranked Purdue (73-72) in the title game ... Also in the eight-team field was Boston College, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State and St.

Josephs ... UT seniors Wayne Chism (14.7 ppg, 6.3 rpg) and Tyler Smith (12.3 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.7 spg) earned All-Tournament Team honors ... Scotty Hopson averaged 12.7 ppg, and Cameron Tatum averaged 10.0 ... UT shot .789 at the foul line and .470 from the floor at the event.

Records Book Rewritten Against UNC AshevilleIn a 124-49 blowout of UNC Asheville on Nov. 17 in Knoxville, Tennessee set new single-game school records for points (124) and assists (34) while tying the record for 3-pointers made (16) ... UTs 75-point margin of victory was second in school history and the largest of the Bruce Pearl era ... The 124 points was a Thompson-Boling Arena record (any team) ... It was the most points ever allowed by the Bulldogs and also their largest margin of defeat in school history ... While its unknown if it was a record, Asheville went 16:53 without a field goal to open the game, which incidentally was Pearls 100th win with the Volunteers.

Hopson Leading The Way Through Five GamesSophomore shooting guard Scotty Hopson is lead-ing the team in scoring with 15.8 ppg through five games ... Most impressive about Hopsons offensive performance has been his shooting from 3-point range, as he has made a team-best 14-of-24 attempts (.583) ... His six 3-pointers against UNC Asheville Nov. 17 were a career-high, and he posted a career-best scoring total of 25 points in back-to-back games against UNC Asheville and East Carolina in November.

Stout Defense Early OnTennessees defense has been outstanding through the Vols first five games ... The highlight thus far has been holding UNC Asheville without a field goal for the first 16:53 of the game Nov. 17 ... Tennessee also held the Bulldogs to .239 shooting from the field (16-of-67) and .063 shooting from long range (1-of-16) ... And in the Nov. 20 rout of East Carolina, the Vols turned 35 ECU turnovers into 50 points ... Through five games, UTs foes are hitting just 25.0 percent of their 3-point attempts.
