During the academic year we extend our opening times to 24 hour. We open the Library for 12 weeks at key points, usually around deadlines and exams.
How does it work? During a 24 hour opening period we open at 1100 on a Sunday and then remain open till 2100 the following Friday. Normal hours resume on Saturday (1100 - 1800) with Sunday following the aforementioned pattern.
Will there be help available? During the night shifts (2100 - 0800) there will be 2 Library staff and 1 security guard on duty in the building. Library staff will be able to offer a basic Library and IT service.
We try to ensure that we maintain our advertised opening hours, however users are advised to always check the Library web site for information about opening before setting out on their journey to reach us.

USING ELECTRONICRESOURCES
An increasing number of text books are available electronically. More students can use these books because they can be accessed simultaneously.
The current figure for available e-book titles is approximately 350,000.
Staff and students of the University of Roehampton have access to over 42,000 electronic journals.
The Library has several of these titles in print but the majority are provided in electronic format only.
In addition to e-books and e-journals, many films, short films, video and audio clips are available for online streaming and download, via Moodle

We have drawn up this Code of Conduct after some student feedback to help make the Library a safe and welcoming place to work, learn and study.
Consideration for othersUsers must at all times behave considerately and show respect towards others working in the Library.
Mobile phonesIt is best practice to switch your phone to silent when you enter the Library. Vibrate and silent texting functions are alright in most areas. Calls can only be made and received in designated areas. When you are in a silent area, please switch your phone off so that it doesn’t disturb others.
EatingWe ask that cold food is only consumed in designated areas in the Library, group or social study and quiet areas. Meals
and hot food should be eaten in Wired or outside the Library as the smell and litter can be unpleasant to others.
DrinkingYou may drink non-alcoholic beverages in most areas of the Library but please dispose of litter in recycling bins provided. In silent study areas, only water is permitted.
Clean and tidyPlease help to keep the Library clean and tidy for all users by keeping rubbish to a minimum and placing it in the recycling bins provided.
Noise/TalkingThough we want to encourage collaborative learning in designated social/group study areas users should remember that this is an academic library. As such, behaviour should be suitable for your surroundings and any noise kept to an appropriate level in all areas of the Library. You should always observe the silence rule in designated silent study areas. Please note that Library staff may ask you to move if you are being too noisy or behaving inappropriately in any area of the Library.
CODE OFCONDUCT
17
Carrying IDYou should carry your University ID/Library card with you at all times and be prepared to show it on request. Please do not lend your ID/Library card to anyone else. A current and valid University ID/Library card is needed to gain access to the Library and to borrow Library stock.
StudyingAreas are zoned for different types of study and the Library has social/group study areas and areas for quiet and silent study. There are also presentation rooms and study rooms which you can book online to work in small groups or on your own.
Using PCsPCs in the Library are in high demand, with that in mind, please try to avoid using them for social activities so that they are available to maximum numbers of students for study purposes. Please logout of your PC when you are taking a break so that others can make use of the equipment and to keep your account secure.
Observing copyright legislationThere are laws surrounding copyright. Please read the guidelines and advice available on the website and on display in the Library before making photocopies, printing or scanning.
Using laptopsWe ask that you observe safety regulations by not trailing wires across the floor as this can be a trip hazard. You should not connect your laptop to any other University equipment such as printers.
Looking after your belongingsYou should keep your belongings and your valuables with you at all times. Please do not leave them unattended.
Posters, notices and bannersWe ask that you use the authorised or designated areas for posters, notices & banners. Any person placing a poster, notice or banner in any unauthorised area is choosing to do so at risk of it being removed and thrown away. Flyers & leaflets left in the Library may also be removed and destroyed.
18
We have a variety of study spaces available, including: study bays dotted around the book floors, bookable study rooms, PC suites, social learning in the Wired cybercafé, access to power for laptops on study bays, sofas, desks and comfy chairs.
Where can I study in the Library? You can choose which area suits you best for the task in hand.
NOISEZONES
What we ask all our users to do is respect each other and the noise levels that need to be adhered to in each study area.
How will I know what noise zone I’m in?The Library has a sound pictogram on the signs in each area to highlight the level of noise that will be tolerated in a paticular study space. If you do not respect the noise zones, you will be required to relocate to an alternative area to study.
SocialIn these areas talking and discussion is OK, but no loud behaviour or music please.Mobiles can be used and eating of cold food and drinking is allowed.
Quiet StudyAre for quiet study and low level conversation is permitted. Mobiles must be on silent and used for texting only.Eating of cold food and drinking is allowed.
Individual StudyThese are for silent study only. This means no talking is allowed and mobile phones are not to be used in these areas. You must not eat in these areas and only water is allowed.
