Foundation was established by the University of Rijeka, City of Rijeka and Primorsko-goranska County.
Foundation’s objective is to highlight the significance of the University in the development of the community and to ensure the successful future of the University, as well as to encourage cooperation between individuals, firms, institutions and the local community.
It’s purpose is to to provide long-term financial support to the academic community
Research Office
- The University of Rijeka initiated the activities to make new administrative units which will solely deal with various programmes and projects, European Union and other, in education, science, and technology transfer and all other fields of interest to our University, in near future, four separate offices with intertwined tasks and work shall all be established. The first one established in 2001 was the International Relations Office, in 2006 the one for technology transfer was established and there is a plan to establish the office for European projects and the one for scientific and development projects.

Centre for Quality Improvement was established at the University of Rijeka in 2003

Recognition
In May 2007 the University of Rijeka, at the proposal of the University Committee for academic recognition and recognition of study, established the Office for academic recognition of foreign higher education qualifications and study period. Each University Constituent will have the obligation to form the Committee for the recognition of HE qualifications and study period.
Lifelong learning (1)
Lifelong learning is integrated in the University Strategy for the period 2007-2013. The University will organise LLL programmes and establish the institutional structure for their implementation. LLL programmes will be subject to accreditation procedure and will have the same quality standards as University studies, therefore the achieved credits will be implemented in the academic and qualification profile. LLL programmes will become integral part of the activities of all University staff.
Lifelong learning (2)
Lifelong learning education will be organised through formal and non-formal programmes at the University of Rijeka. Postgraduate specialistic studies, according to the Law on scientific activities and higher education, could be considered as a core of formal lifelong learning education at Croatian universities. University of Rijeka in 2007 has 11 accredited postgraduate specialistic programmes, as follows:
Faculty of Economics: Intelligent Electronic Business, Controlling, Marketing Management, Management in the Public Sector, Business with the European Union, Accounting
Faculty of Medicine: Family Medicine, Health Management, Biomedicine of Developmental Age, Internal Medicine
Faculty of Law: Criminal Investigation

Students’ participation
The University of Rijeka considers that the percentage of students’ participation in the University management bodies is satisfactory.
Employability
In October 2006 the University of Rijeka made an employability study – Analysis of the economic needs of Primorsko-goranska County for the higher education profiles and ways of improving the perception about the University of Rijeka.
The purpose of the employability study was to question the needs of economy and public sector for HE profiles, by questioning stakeholders: large and medium enterprises and a sample of 5% of small enterprises. It was made in the frame of the University Strategy.
The University shall implement new strategic guidelines in order to prepare new employees for the challenges of dynamic market, by developing knowledge and skills of future employees.
Social dimension
In May 2007 Senate of the University of Rijeka approved the Program for granting credits/loans to students.
Program is designated to full-time and part-time students as well as to students in postgraduate specialist and doctoral studies.
The loans will be approved for the purpose of scholarships, but also for other costs of studying.
Other activities
In November 2006 the University of Rijeka submitted a report to the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports entitled “Experiences with the implementation of the Bologna Process at the University of Rijeka”, based on the information obtained from all University constituents.
The report includes the opinions of the University constituents related to the strengths and weaknesses of the Bologna implementation, suggestions for future and information on Bologna students’ success rate.
It also gives the report on the activities of the Centre for Quality Improvement, which was established at the University of Rijeka in 2003.
