ACADEMIC COSTUME INFORMATION
The cap at the University of Minnesota is the same for all academic degrees. The long point of the shell should be worn to the back.
Tassels
Tassels are fastened to the top of the cap and hang on either side "as the wind blows." Tassels for University College are old gold and white.
Bachelor's Degree Gowns
These gowns are used by candidates for the bachelor of arts, elected studies, fine arts, and science degrees; the associate in arts degree; and certificates. The black bachelor's gown has long, pointed sleeves and is worn closed at the top. Women may wear white collars. Hoods are not worn, but caps are.
Honors Ribbons
Undergraduate degree candidates who are graduating with honors should pick up honors ribbons in 150
Williamson or 130 Coffey Hall. The honors ribbons should be worn around the neck. Honors ribbons need not be returned - once awarded they belong to the graduate.
