Sampling Procedures & Methods

• 4-5 hr sampling events week prior to broiler and roaster movement

• 2002 = 10 days; 2003 = 9 days (summer flocks)

• Total dust: gravimetric using 37mm cassettes and pumps calibrated at 2 L/min. (NIOSH # 0500)

• Ammonia: Gastec dosimeter tubes # 3DL (10 ppm) and Impinger method (OSHA ID-164)

• H2SO4 : 10L tedlar bags sent to ISU (Jerome 631 H2SO4 Analyzer)

• Odor: 10L tedlar bags sent to ISU (AC’Scent International Standard Olfactometer)

Sampling Procedure:

• 2 locations opposite tunnel fans (front and rear)

• ~5 hrs/day, one week prior to broiler & roaster movement

• # Sampling events during summer flocks: 10 days in 2002; 9 days in 2003

3 Years of Data Suggest VEB Reduce from Tunnel Fans:
