Diversity Week: Week of November 1 CECS Diversity Statement
CECS Diversity Statement The College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) aims to
take advantage of UCF’s strong diversity initiatives and support the
Office of Diversity Initiatives in its efforts to position UCF as a
Center of Excellence in domestic diversity. The College recognizes
the importance of diversity as part of the students’ educational
experience and is dedicated to:
1) Reorganizing the Colleges’ Office of Outreach to become more active in diversity issues;
2) Increasing our efforts in recruitment and retention of students, faculty and staff from underrepresented groups (women and minorities); and
3) Infusing diversity and inclusion in the curricula. Our goal is to make CECS diversity initiatives Visible, Intentional and a Priority through education and support with respect to individual differences.

Student Scholarships
The J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering at …
History
In 2006, the Department
received a $10 million
donation from J. Crayton
Pruitt and his Family
foundation. As a result of
the gift, University officials
named the Department in
honor of the Pruitt family,
making it the first-ever
named department at UF.
the University of Florida
At UCF we need a “Named” Department of Bioengineering: Will need funding
for new building, endowed faculty positions and students scholarships.
19
The availability of Endowed faculty positions is an important tool for
recruitment and retention of outstanding faculty.
