Public Health in the CaribbeanThis is a rare opportunity to acquire practical medical training in a developing country. Instruction includes 6 weeks of courses in urban Santiago and a week of field study in a semi-rural clinic—throughout which you will explore health management and preventive medicine programs, interact in clinical settings and advance your conversational Spanish. Guided visits to historical sites and a weekend trip in the capital of Santo Domingo are included.

Summer School for EngineersThis program offers intensive courses in civil, chemical, electrical and mechanical engineering and features both theoretical learning and practical experience. Intern & Research in Modern IndiaThis is an enlightening opportunity to explore shared interests with Indian faculty and professionals in the beautiful cultural and academic center of Pune. After an interactive seminar on Indian history and society as well as field visits, you embark on a 6-week internship or directed research project on a topic of your choice under the guidance of an intern supervisor or faculty mentor.

Development & Community Fieldwork Get an unforgettable glimpse of India through a combination of classes, cultural workshops and fieldwork with Indian and international students. The final 2 weeks of the program include community field service with a relief organization in rural Rajasthan. Engineering & Science Lab ResearchWork within a Japanese lab team for 8 weeks on a research project in areas such as nanotechnology and molecular science, life science and biotechnology, systems and robotics, computing and information science, advanced material science, photon science and other emerging fields. Cultural activities help you explore Osaka's traditional parks, temples, shrines, amusement parks and active nightlife.

Japanese for BeginnersGain up to a year of language training in just one summer and return to UC at an intermediate level. Designed for beginners, this accelerated program offers interactive and practical language instruction in Osaka, a modern city close to historic Kyoto and Nara. Practice Japanese with locals as you sample amazing cuisine, shop, and engage in field trips and cultural activities.

Science Research InternshipThis full-time research internship is led by faculty at the University of Tokyo. Shared dialogue, experiments and peer consultation are integral to the program, where you focus your research with a team in physics, astronomy, earth and planetary science, biophysics and biochemistry, biological sciences or chemistry. Survival Japanese language and cultural activities complement your project.

Contemporary MexicoRivaling Paris, France in its number of museums and cultural attractions, Mexico City is a world capital waiting to be explored. This 5-week program offers a preview of Mexican life, culture and politics. An active calendar of trips to cultural sites brings your classes alive. Spanish language study, customized to your skill level, complements a core Contemporary Mexico class and an elective at the amazing Casa de California in Coyoacán.

Global Views Today Explore psychology, Korean literature, business, politics and more in Seoul, the energetic capital alive with activity. Courses taught in English attract students from around the world. The program includes field trips and activities like hip-hop dance, tae kwon do, Korean cooking and K-pop singing. You may also intern in a corporate setting or conduct research for UC credit.

Intensive Arabic Language Pack a full semester of intensive (all-levels) Arabic learning into 8 weeks with quality instruction from well-established AMIDEAST, an organization devoted to forging cooperation between the US and the Middle East. A placement test on arrival determines your Arabic language proficiency. Excursions and homestay placements with local Moroccan families enhance the experience and encourage the development of Arabic language skills. Modern standard Arabic classes are held in Rabat’s bustling Agdal district.

Advanced Russian LanguageMaster Russian grammar and hone your conversation skills as you experience St. Petersburg’s buzzing intellectual scene. This immersive language program for intermediate to advanced students includes electives in film, Russian media and music as well as exclusive tours and overnight trips to Moscow and Novgorod. You will live with a Russian family to immerse in daily Russian life and language.

Biodiversity Field Research in Asia Develop skills as a scientist conducting field research in the diverse habitats of Southeast Asia. Rainforests, mangrove swamps and coral reefs rich in biodiversity are your lab to study sustainability and ecological preservation. Courses are taught in English and include Indonesian or Chinese language study as well as a 1-week excursion on a Malaysian island. This program is designed for students in the life sciences, but all majors are welcome.

Internship in Science & EngineeringEngage in a full-time, high-level internship working directly with international scientists. Hands-on research is offered across 21 science and engineering institutes. The modern city-state of Singapore—with its fusion of Chinese, Malay, Indian and Western traditions—adds to a uniquely global experience as you join lab meetings and collaborate with experts.

Barcelona SummerThe Autonomous University of Barcelona, the highest ranked university in Spain, is situated just outside of Barcelona on the Balearic Sea.
