As a result of hosting Sugar Land Employer Open Houses (networking events), UCS will
increase new Sugar Land area employer registrations in Cougar Pathway by 5%.
Purpose of Assessment Activity:
Cougar Pathway is a career management system which allows students to connect with
employers through an easy to use resume database, on-campus recruiting system, and a job
database. The purpose of this activity is:
To assess the effectiveness of current recruitment and outreach efforts, such as information sessions, industry panels, career fairs, and student showcases
To increase the number of Sugar Land area employers utilizing UCS services To increase employer awareness of UH Sugar Land campus
Method of Assessment:
Data Analysis
Method of Assessment Description:
Compare the number of new Sugar Land area employers registered in Cougar Pathway from
FY18 to FY19, as well as the activity (job postings, career fair attendance) of these
employers. This will be tracked through utilizing the Employer's listed location in their Cougar
Pathway account and comparing those listed in the Fort Bend country and Sugar Land areas.
Frequency / Timeline of Assessment Activity:
Run reports in December 2018 and August 2019
Date Summary to be Completed:

Activity Theme:
Outreach
Results:
As of August 2019, comparison shows a 15% increase in new employer registrations on Cougar
Pathway since September 1, 2018 (from 300 to 345). A first open house was organized at the UH
at Sugar Land site for employers in the Fort Bend area. The open house was attended by 20
recruiters representing 15 organizations within the Fort Bend County. A second open house was
attended by 12 recruiters representing 10 organizations within the area.

Action to be taken as a result of the activity:
The Sugar Land open houses appear to be well attended, and may be correlated with the increase
in employer engagement. Following September 1, 2019, the first Sugar Land Career Fair took
place hosting 25 employers in the Sugar Land area, and the increased representation of
employers at UH at Sugar Land is encouraging and demonstrates a need for employer
engagement and recruitment at the site, as well as opportunity to continue increasing recruitment
events and opportunities for students.

As a result of College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences (CLASS) Course Resume Curriculum,
students will increase their VMock resume score.
Purpose of Assessment Activity:
The purpose of this assessment activity is to determine if the CLASS Course Resume Curriculum
helps student increase their VMock Resume scores. VMock is a resume platform used to provide
students with instant feedback on 3 pre-designed Core Areas (impact, presentation and career
readiness skills) that allows students to benchmark their resume amongst their peers and make
suggested revisions to increase their career readiness skills.
Method of Assessment:
Pre/Post Test
Method of Assessment Description:
Students at the beginning of the CLASS career course will upload their resume into VMock and
receive their score. These pre-test scores will be compared to their post-test scores after
completing the Resume Curriculum of the course.
Frequency / Timeline of Assessment Activity:
Data will be analyzed for pre-test in August 2018 and compared to post-test in December 2018
Date Summary to be Completed:

Activity Theme:
Student Development/Learning
Results:
Data was collected over the Fall 2018 & Spring 2019 semesters in two LACP 2111 courses. In
both courses, students completed two VMock uploads (one at the beginning of the course before
the resume class and another after the resume class). 31 students in course #1 had an average
growth of their VMock resume score of 47% and 18.5 points. Notable increases of single
uploads include 43 points and 39 points. 7 students did not increase their score. 30 students in
course #2 had an average growth of 17% and 7.47 points.
In Spring 2019, course #1 had 19 students upload resumes before and after the resume course.
They had an average growth of 52.5 % and 21 points. Notable increase of a single upload was 51
points. 6 students did not positively increase their score. In course #2, the Spring 2019 course
had an average 70% growth in their resume score.
Action to be taken as a result of the activity:
Given the increase in resume scores, the resume curriculum will not change for FY20 in LACP
courses. Since some students did not increase their VMock score, instructors will promote drop-
in visits to University Career Services for additional support following the resume class.

STUDENT COMMENTS
It was quick easy and very helpful. no hassle of having to make and appointment that takes a lot
of time out of your day.
It was really helpful being able to talk to someone directly about a concern. It was also very
convenient since I don't have a lot of free time and wasn't able to speak to someone in person.
The staff are very helpful, and willing to provide aid and advice, even if the problem is very
complex, and they respond quickly
Action to be taken as a result of the activity:
The next steps taken will be :
1. Continue to promote this service and grow the utilization number by at least 1% every year 2. Promote this service as a best practice through conference presentations publications 3. Involve more career counselors to offer this service on a rotational basis so as to make sure that
in-person services are not affected
