Background and Experience

1. Please provide a brief description of your organisation (e.g. mission, areas of specific

expertise, specific social context, target group, regular activities, etc.). (max. 1000

characters with spaces)

As a public higher education institution, the UGR is committed not only to quality and

excellence in education, learning and research but also to activities targeting the transfer of

scientific, technical and artistic knowledge to society, the betterment of society and a

sustainable environment. The main activities of the University of Granada (UGR) are related

to higher education, learning and research in a very broad sense. Due to its long-standing

tradition, geographical location and high standards, both in teaching and research, the UGR

regards internationalization as one of its strategic aims. The UGR offers a wide range of

courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Every year over 4,800 international

graduate and postgraduate students choose the UGR to take full study programmes or via

the approximately 800 network and bilateral exchange agreements in which the UGR is

involved. The UGR is the leading European university in number of Erasmus students

received and sent.

2. What are the activities and experience of your organisation, which are relevant to EU

funded projects?

The UGR takes part in a wide number of international programmes and initiatives co-funded

through different EU scheme. The Vice-Rectorate for Internationalization has a sound structure

composed of a governing body (Vice-Rector assisted by several directors for the different

working areas). The International Relations Office-IRO counts with more than 35 full-time

administrative staff members working on different aspects such as general management,

quality assurance, mobility, networks, projects and agreements, development cooperation,

communication and marketing. Furthermore, the IRO counts with a specific financial unit

composed of 4 staff members who deal exclusively with the funds and budget coming from

diverse sources. With regard to international cooperation projects, the UGR has had a long-

standing involvement in a vast number of academic cooperation schemes financed through

different EU programmes such as the FP7 and H2020, Interreg, LLP, Alfa III, Erasmus Mundus,

Erasmus +… During 2016 the UGR has participated in more than 70 EU funded academic

projects being the coordinator of more than 15 of them.
