The PhD student will have carried out studies or research work recognised by the university. b) That part of the PhD thesis, at least the summary and conclusions, has been written and presented in one of the official languages of the European Union other than any of the official languages in Spain. c) That the thesis has been guided by a minimum of two experts belonging to a higher education or research institute in a Member State of the European Union outside Spain. d) That at least one expert, belonging to a higher education or research institute in a Member State of the European Union outside Spain, holding a PhD degree, and different from the person responsible from the stay mentioned in section a) and those mentioned in section c), make up part of the panel of experts for the thesis. The defence of the thesis has to be carried out at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. II.- Administrative procedure for a European PhD 1. The application to opt for the “European PhD Honour” must be made when doing the enrolment for the defence of the PhD Thesis, by filling in the appropriate form. The following documentation must also be attached: a) Two reports from experts belonging to a higher education institute or a research centre in a Member State of the European Union other than Spain, with a brief scientific curriculum vitae of the expert issuing it. The reports must be submitted in a closed envelope. b) Certification issued by the higher education institute or a research centre in a Member State of the European Union other than Spain, which will state the details of the stay. This will include the starting and finishing dates of the stay as well as the name of the Head of the research group that the student collaborated with. 2. The PhD Commission of the UPM, in the light of the documentation presented, will decide whether the applicant can opt for the European Honours. In the case of a positive decision, and once the procedures for carrying out a defence of the thesis is done, the said decision will be communicated to the Academic Commission of the PhD Program. The relevant regulations will also be sent on to the Secretary of the Panel of Experts who will evaluate the PhD thesis, as well as a copy of the certificate setting out the details of the stay and a report from the foreign experts. 3. For the concession of the “European PhD Honour” the Secretary of the Panel of Experts will certify during the presentation of the PhD thesis: a) That at least one member of the Panel of Experts belongs to a higher education institute or a research centre in a Member State of the European Union other than Spain. b) That part of the PhD thesis, at least the summary and conclusions, has been written and presented in one of the official languages of the European Union other than any of the official languages in Spain. European Phd

I.- Requisites for obtaining a PhD Degree with European Honours

The defence of the thesis has to be carried out at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
