Strengths o thisproject would bethat the emotion o
Anxiety was clearlyreplicated physicallyand emotionally. Theone issue I might have,is with the horizontalAnxiety Tweet, in that I
eel it doesnt have thegraphic harshness thatthe other two have.
The direct result ohow we compose adesign. Just the sameas a piece o music, the
order in which we placecomponents (notes),
eects their immediatesurroundings and theentire structure itsel.A lonely sharp noteclearly stands outjust as one green
square would in thebelow composition.

AnAlogous
An images color canentirely eect its moodand how it is perceived
thus how much it cansell or. Even a well
composed businesscard that only hassimple primary colors
will be unsuccessulagainst a card with thesame design that uses
sophisticated colors. Myweakness was creating a
sophisticated enoughdesign/composition orthe 50% o sale in theallotted time. I think I
was just too hungry to
do my best work. Mystrength was coloringin the M with colors
that are Complementaryand the same Value.
I was well eed whenI was completing that
assignment.-Ellen Lupton

To maximize the
relationship between
design elements
proportion and scale
are typically used. Scale
controls object size while
proportion manages
size ratio. Both make

Texture is the tactile
grain o suraces andsubstances. Textures inour enviornment help usunderstand the nature othings: rose bushes havesharp thorns o protectthe delicate owersthey surroud;smooth, paved roads signals saepassage; think og castsa veil on our view
The textures o des
elements similarlycorrespond to theirunction. An elegansmoothly patternedsurace might adorbuilt interior or pribrochure o a day a snaggle o barbewire could stand ametaphor or violeincarceration. -Ellen Lupton

TIME
Time and motion areclosely related principles.Any word or image thatmoves unctions bothspatially an dtemporally.Motion is a kindochange, and chage
takes place in time.Motion can be implied aswell as literal, however.Artists have long soughtways to represent themovement o bodiesand the passage otime within the realm ostatic, two-dimensionalspace . Time and motionare considerations orall design work, rommultipage printed book,
whose pages olloweach other in time, toanimations or flm andtelevision, which haveiteral duration.

The message is simple;no cups here.Presented at the visualintersection or student
and visitor. The structurewas to fnd a corner inneed o signage andboy did I have a corner! As a receptionist at anUniversity Art School it isoten my job to loan outand provide materialsto aculty and students.Writing utensils, tape, paper, glue etc Butthere comes a pointwhen its just not my job
(nor should it ever be)to provide EVERYTHINGto EVERYBODY.Students must attendclass prepared with allmaterials. This includescups or jars or mixingpaint and ink. Also,my building has waterountains (bubblers{pronounced Bublah
in Boston}) and watercoolers. I you haventcaught my drit yet, theproblem that needed
signage was that No, Ido not have, nor shouldI have a cup or you todrink out o or to use tomix paint This requestor cups will be askedmultiple times a shit, sometimes by the samestudents and can comeacross as obnoxious,to say the least. TheAnswer needed to besimple, quick, and
clear. Visible to studentswho were walkingtoward the desk as toprevent the dreadedquestion; do you haveany cups? thus, themessage NO CUPS onthe inside corner in aartsy grafti style. Theletter C in cups has anarrow pointing the view

The concept o
layers comes
rom the physicalworld, and it has
a long history
in the traditions
o maping and
muical notation.
Maps and
time lines use
overlapping
layers toassociate
dierent
levels o date,
allowing them
to contribute to
the whole while
maintation they
own identities.
Layers
Most printeing
techniques
require thatan image be
split into layers
beore it can be
reproduced. From
ink-jet printing
to silkscreen
and commercial
lithography, each
color requiresits own plate,
flm, screen,
ink cartridge or
toneer drum,
depending on teh
process, digital
technologies
automate this
process, makitit more or less
invisible to the
designere.
