“After having smoked for over 30 years from the age of 13, I thought I would never be able to quit. But as soon I entered through the doors of the UCKG HelpCentre and had a one-to-one with one of the advisers, I was a new man. Ever since then, it has been two years that I haven’t smoked a cigarette. It is possible to get clean!”

Depressed and without any life prospects—that was the best way to describe who I

was. I was going through so much financial struggle that I barely made ends meet working as a cleaner. It didn’t help that my husband and I had other problems that just created one big mess.

However, by coming to the UCKG HelpCentre and attending the meetings offered there, I learnt that there is always a way out of any situation. I discovered that with faith, I could change anything in my life around.

The Campaign of Israel was the greatest turning point for me. From the moment I took a risk to receive something greater, I didn’t regret it. Today, I have seen the results of using my faith in the Campaign of Israel.

My life began to evolve. I received such a peace that I had never felt before, replacing the sadness with joy, and my financial life did a

complete U-turn! I opened up my own business, which specialises in cosmetics. Even my family

and relationship got better.

Last year, I was recognised by a local magazine investor, which was a great platform for my business.

I can’t stop smiling smile when I think of how my life is today. This is only a stepping stone. There is more to achieve.

BISHOP’S MESSAGE

The Life on the Altar studies will guide you to personal growth and give you valuable lessons of faith

WEDNESDAY AT 7:30PM (also at 7am, 10am & 3pm)

Everything you need isis on the ALTAR

Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the

land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” (Genesis 22:2)

Abraham didn’t hesitate to obey God.He took his only son, climbed Mount Moriah, prepared the altar and in his heart, he sacrificed his son.

What he did was the typification of God’s sacrifice. He inspired the Lord.God tested Abraham and found a love that was very similar to His own, in him.

Abraham sacrificed Isaac on Mount Moriah. He believed that even if Isaac died, God could bring his son back to life.

That moment was so profound, that God sacrificed His own Son on that same mountain.

Calvary, where Jesus was crucified, is a higher extension of Mount Moriah. God had to do even more than Abraham had done; He sacrificed His only begotten Son and brought Him back to life.

Is any area of your life dead?

On the altar of God, it can be brought back to life.

Or perhaps you are like a zombie, the living dead.

You can be brought back to life on the altar.

Everything that you could possibly need is on the altar.

It works!

When all hope is lost…

My family was at breaking point, and my several addictions to alcohol and smoking just aggravated every problem we already had.

As the man of the household, I was to do things on my own and make ends meet, but with each month that passed, we were getting more and

more desperate. When all hope was lost, my ego disappeared with it.

One morning, none of the channels on our TV were working, apart from the TV programme of the UCKG HelpCentre. My family and I were forced

to watch it, but it was because of that motivational programme that I decided to call in and ask for help.

From the moment I entered the UCKG HelpCentre, I learnt the actions I needed to take. When I implemented those changes, my life changed

drastically.

Today, I am successful and working as a specialist in an amazing company. Better yet, I’m free from addictions and I’m a new man, one

that my family can now be proud of.

A Chain of Prayer is a series of weekly prayers made without interruption. Their purpose is to achieve a positive transformation through faith, just as these people have done; their secret to success being their perseverance.

I work as an occupational health adviser, and there was a very peculiar time in my life where no matter how hard I tried, things never went right. In fact, they didn’t go

anywhere! I would try to push myself to see improvements but every time I did, I would get disappointed.

However, in the space of one year, while attending the UCKG HelpCentre and the financial meetings on Mondays, I learnt the significance of being a tither. Since then, I’ve received salary increments, which have significantly changed the course of my finances.

To catch me smiling was like catching a fly with chopsticks—it was rare. This was because I was filled with so many insecurities, complexes and anger, and to add to all this drama, I found it hard

to sleep. I would wake up with my heart racing and my body sweating.

Fortunately, one of my friends had been attending the UCKG HelpCentre, and was really changing his life. I was sceptical when he shared it, but I accepted his invitation. I began to take things seriously by faithfully attending the Wednesday sessions to this day.

Today, I value myself and I smile even on a rainy day.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?

Join Bp James and Helena every

Saturday at 7pm for the Love Therapy meeting, Rainbow

Theatre.

Our mind is inherently selfish. This is something that is part of the human being, and with the passing of years

this has become increasingly worse. We see so called “relationship experts” driving home the message that you have to see what you can get out of a relationship and making people respect and love you, but you hardly see anyone talking about giving more of yourself.

This has created a mentality where individuals in a marriage only complain about each other if they are not getting exactly what they want, but are very resistant should something be brought to their attention that they need to change.

I remember a few years back a husband was complaining that his wife rejected him every time he wanted to be intimate with her. But when we tried to help them through counselling, it surfaced that he was cold, insensitive, rude, and a bunch of other negative adjectives throughout the day, and then he wanted her to just flip a switch when it came to having sex. He didn’t understand that the care and consideration throughout the day was a build up to their time together.

Although the above is just an example, this is the kind of thing we have seen destroying relationships at wild fire rate.

Perhaps this will make you understand this better. In the years I have been working with Helena helping couples, I have never had anyone coming to us saying, “James, I am a selfish wife and want to make my husband happier,” or “I need help. How can I make my wife feel more loved and appreciated?” Usually, couples come to us because their other half is doing something wrong.

Imagine if a husband/wife would spend the whole day thinking of how they could make the other person happier… If we could instil this mentality in couples just as the world has instilled the selfish and self-seeking one, we would be generating a new breed of marriages. Marriages that grow in strength and love despite their hiccups and make other couples look at them in admiration.

If you are in a relationship, give yourself a task this month. Give something to your spouse every day. We are not talking about something material… Give them the time you used to give to your video games, the admiration for their qualities through your words, the love you only remember to give when you are in bed, etc. Do this every day, but without expecting anything in return. The return will be as natural as the course of nature in its infinite perfection.

BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY 25 MAY - 1PM

“For us, the Love Walk provided a way for us to get out of our comfort zone and by doing so, we discovered how great it is to spend time together. We normally have a very busy life and the Love Walk made us realise that our relationship needs time as well.”

Stephanie and Leandro Mendes

“The Love Walk is actually a calling from the Author of love. It’s an opportunity for all who decide to venture out into this real and natural love, where participants will explore, repair, renew and strengthen their relationship or marriage. That is exactly what my wife and I did through talking, reviewing and also expressing our satisfaction/dissatisfaction in a peaceful way. It was a day well spent and I can’t wait to embark upon another Love Walk event.”

“Bishop Macedo’s story is complex. The Universal Church has grown immensely in only 38 years. To be honest, I believe he still has much more to tell us. I wish he would continue writing more books, as the story of his life is like gold.”

“I respect and admire a person that achieves his objectives, especially because he had faith and knew how to use the Word. His story is incredibly inspiring and through it, he is reaching out to many people around the world.”

“The trajectory of Bishop Macedo is immense, formidable indeed. It is the result of an absolute faith and a great obstinacy, which is admirable. He didn’t focus on the negatives, but his faith sustained him so that he was able to achieve the impossible.”

“This third book of the trilogy finalises the last chapters of a great success story as a man of faith. Bishop Macedo uses his past experiences to teach us how to overcome any obstacle today.”

“When a person reaches such great success, they become an example for other people to follow. People want to imitate them; they want to follow in their footsteps. Bishop Macedo has become that example.”

I started smoking weed at the age of 12 because I thought it was normal. Everyone else was doing it, so why

couldn’t I? But it wasn’t until three years later, at the age of 15, that something strange started happening to me. After smoking at a train station, I couldn’t think straight; until everything had gone out of focus, my body began to heat up and I blacked out. I began to act oddly. After this, my mind was consumed with thoughts of death, nothing seemed true anymore and death became a fear that was all too real.

I stayed trapped in my thoughts, contemplating suicide. I was even referred to a counsellor, but stopped seeing them when I was 16 because nothing was changing. I was still as dark and negative as ever.

I started drinking at the age of 17. I remember drinking so much with friends and seeming to think I was invincible, until I blacked out. That was the first time I got drunk, but it wasn’t my last. I continued to drink like that until the age of 25.

Alcohol and raving is what I used to dismiss my emptiness. The sadness and frustration was so overwhelming that it gave way to anger and aggression. I got into plenty of arguments, mostly with males, and particularly at raves.

I was unwise in my dealings with money. I wanted to forget how bad my situation was, so I would spend ridiculous amounts of money that I didn’t have on alcohol and raving, and built up debts of just under £2,000. I was living out of my overdraft and no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t get back into the ‘black zone’.

I was in a meaningless relationship, but it was going nowhere and it soon ended. I showed my friends that I was happy and bubbly, but that wasn’t the case. I was hurting. The emptiness was so deep that I felt like I was sinking into it.

Having my degree for almost two years hadn’t helped me find a job. Even after graduating, I still had no idea what I wanted to do. I’d apply for jobs but not one came through for me. It wasn’t as if I didn’t try; I was desperate. I was so unsatisfied with my life that at 24, I went to America for a month to see if I could start something new there, but ended up coming back to the UK. At the age of 25, I went to Ghana and considered relocating. In the end, I realised that moving to another country wasn’t going to solve the problem; I had no direction, so moving would be a waste of time.

A friend from work invited me to the UCKG HelpCentre, and it was the best thing she could have ever done for me. I liked the message given in that first Sunday meeting. The pastor spoke about topics that related to everyday life, topics that related to me.

I kept coming back to the HelpCentre because I enjoyed it. The day the Campaign of Israel was announced, I decided that I would take part in it. Never before had I heard of anything like it. I was fed up with failure and making decisions that didn’t last because they were based on indecision. I needed direction. I wanted God’s idea and His wisdom to be implemented in my finances. With determination, I fulfilled my vow. It wasn’t easy; I was bombarded with

“I began to act oddly. Nothing seemed true anymore and death became a fear that was all too real.

Before

discouraging thoughts about giving up, but this time I was determined to put my indecisiveness behind me.

As well as the Campaign, I was also fully committed to attending the Monday and Sunday meetings. My perseverance paid off. The effect my faith had on my life is one I will never forget.

Bit by bit, I was able to sleep peacefully through the night, and the fear of death went away. I didn’t feel the need to drink or go to raves anymore, and I found myself reacting to situations calmly and patiently rather than aggressively like I had previously done. It was as if a new me were being formed, and I loved the changes.

On top of the inner changes that took place, God granted me the direction and wisdom I needed. After much perseverance, after attending plenty of financial sessions and non-stop job searching, I completed a PGCE Primary qualification that enabled me to become a qualified teacher, with a salary higher than I had expected. I no longer live out of my overdraft!

I love the way my life has turned out. Everything worked out for the best, thanks to that one invitation to the UCKG HelpCentre.

A king was riding with his army when he noticed an old man planting a small tree.

He found this very strange, since the tree would take too long to grow and, when it could bear fruit, the old man would no longer be around to eat its fruit.

So the king asked the old gardener why he insisted on such a useless

task. To which the man replied: “I am glad to sow, even if I am not the one to reap. Aren’t we taking advantage today of the trees that were planted many years ago? Sowing is what matters. Not reaping.”

The king considered the old man’s actions wise and, moved, handed him a bag with many gold coins as a reward for the gardener’s wisdom. And he thanked him, saying:

“See how things are? I have barely just planted this tree and I am already reaping valuable fruit.”

Sowing is optional, but reaping is mandatory. Therefore, be careful what you sow.

“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:10)

T here was a city with very strict laws. When anyone committed a crime they would receive the normal punishment, but in addition a

mark would be placed on their foreheads so that everyone would know the kind of crime that person had committed.

Two brothers were arrested for murder and gang-related activities, and had the letters “MG” (Murderer and Gangster) placed on their foreheads. When they were finally released from prison, one of the brothers got tired of looking for work and being rejected — everyone looked down on him for his past. He said, “No matter what I do, everyone sees me as a murderer and a gangster, so I might as well live that way.” And so he went back to doing all the bad things he used to do.

His brother, on the other hand, had repented of his past and continued on his new path, battling through a lot of obstacles in his determination to do what was right. He met a woman of God, started going to church and gave his life to God.

Years passed and a little boy became intrigued by the marks he saw on the forehead of this man, and asked his granddad, “Grandpa, what do the letters ‘MG’ on that man’s forehead mean?” His granddad scratched his head and then answered, “I don’t really remember, but it must be ‘Man of God’ — he’s so well behaved and honors God.”

No matter what you’ve been labeled, or what you’ve done in the past, you can turn it into something special. It all depends on your attitude. You can stagnate by being convinced that there is no way out, or you can look to the future, take positive action and be an example. The latter will result in a transformed life.

The assistant of the UCKG HelpCentre

At times you may wonder what they do. Today, we will tell you a little bit more about them.

The Universal magazine caught up with Pastor Jorge Duarte who is responsible for the assistants of the UK.

Universal mag: Many people have always wanted to know exactly who the assistants are. Can you tell us a bit more about them?

Pr Jorge: Assistants are an extension of the pastor’s arm. They are voluntary trained helpers who dedicate their free time outside their daily life to help people who walk through our church doors. Chosen from among the congregation, assistants assist the assistant pastors, pastors and bishops to serve the members of the church. They have all had a personal encounter with God and have undergone a transformation. They are therefore willing and capable of assisting you through difficult situations.

There is a particular Bible verse that can relate to why we value the assistants in helping us in the work that we do. It says, “So the Lord said to Moses: ‘Gather to Me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them; bring them to the tabernacle of

meeting, that they may stand there with you. Then I will come down and talk with you there. I will take of the Spirit that is upon you and will put the same upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you may not bear it yourself alone.’” (Numbers 11:16,17)

Universal mag: So as assistants, what are their duties? What role do they have in the HelpCentre?

Pr Jorge: Assistants are always readily available to help through prayers, fasting, and advising those in need. They follow up members and ensure their spiritual growth. Whenever someone misses a chain of prayer, an assistant will go looking for them. When someone is sick in hospital, an assistant will be there to visit. When someone is down and can’t find a reason to continue, an assistant is there to lift them up with a word of faith. Assistants even put the needs of the members before their own, simply because the passion to see others happy burns within them.

Please introduce yourself to one of them. They will be more than happy to sit down and speak with you for however long you need.

Dressed in uniform, many of you would have met them as the first point of contact when entering the doors of our HelpCentre. They greet you with a smile and lead you to your seat. They are known as the assistants of the UCKG HelpCentre.

UCKG GROUPS Lending a helping hand!

The UCKG HelpCentre is always on the look-out for what will spark a change in a person’s

life. Besides operating as a daily one-stop spiritual centre, we offer a range of practical support activities—faith-orientated and secular—to meet the needs of all from different age groups and walks of life, and do not shy away from challenging situations. We have committed workers and volunteers and a community focus.

Aware of the individual needs of each community and society as a whole, we have teamed up with other organisations—governmental as well as registered charities, to organise community events that raise awareness and address a number of these needs.

The UCKG HelpCentre takes the approach of forming groups as a way of engaging its members in lending a helping hand to the local community. These groups, such as ROD (Rescue of Dignity), Caleb Group, Patient Care, Happy Parenting, Temple Carers, Bookshop, English Teachers, Fundraising and Prayer Group are all formed to help specific areas of the community where people are suffering and struggling to find suitable help.

Nonetheless, every week we will be sharing with you what each group does, and real life stories of group members whose lives have been helped through one of these groups.

This is just part of the inspiring and heartening message that Bishop Randal Brito had to share with 1000 women during Universal Women’s Day on Saturday 18th April 2015.

“How often have you caught yourself falling into the enticing, yet dangerous trap of comparing yourself to others?” Bishop began, before going on to list three reasons why women should stop comparing themselves to others.

It damages your sense of self—

When you try to be like someone else, you change your natural shape. That’s why so many people are dissatisfied with themselves. Comparison produces feelings such as envy, low self-confidence and depression.

What you are comparing against is inaccurate

information—Sometimes you label a person whose life is miserable, and you end up following standards imposed by the world.

It doesn’t actually help you accomplish your goals—

Comparing is time-consuming and ineffective. It decreases goal achievement.

Bishop’s biblical reference to Esther showed how her decision to be herself catapulted her from slavery to the highest known position of authority—Queen.(See Esther 2:7)

Esther was lovely and beautiful without having anyone to compare herself to. Her originality is what made her special.

With such an encouraging message, how could anyone leave without rediscovering “a woman’s worth?” TUESDAYS, 7PM

Here’s a principle of success: Treat people the way you would like to be treated.

Hardly rocket science or groundbreaking, but extremely rare. The more you interact with people, the more you will observe their behaviour and actions. Unfortunately, most people aren’t interested in other people’s well-being. They’re interested in themselves.

That’s what makes this principle even more powerful. If you live by it, you’ll be an exception, a part of the few. And that’s why you’ll be sought after, valued and respected. Join us every Monday, where you will dare to be an exception.

Coming to the Monday financial seminars inspired me to challenge

the Word of God. So, for the first three months of the year, I doubled my tithe and gave God a deadline to promote me by 31st March. Of course, I didn’t just wait and hope for the best. I made sure I was the best at everything I did, so that I would be working hand-in-hand with God.

On 30th March, I was invited for an interview and on the same day I was offered the job! God honoured my faith. But don’t just take my word for it; try Him and see for yourself. You will never be disappointed!

For the first time ever, men all over the UK will come together for the “DOMINION” event. Here are 7 reasons why you should set aside the time on the evening of April 26th to attend this event:

The event’s theme—God created the man to have dominion, not to be dominated by anything. If you look at your life, you’ll see there are things that have dominated you. You want to believe you have control over these things, but deep inside, you know they control you. In this event, you’ll learn how to have dominion over what is dominating you.

A day for fathers and sons—When was the last time you and your son (or father) went out to do something together, just the two of you? Fathers are always being accused of being absent from their children’s life. This event will be an unforgettable opportunity for the two of you to spend quality time together.

The frustration of women—Ok, they’re right. Sometimes, we men get stuck in time. We don’t improve, we get complacent and aggravate them. Eleven out of ten women want their husband and sons to improve. KEEP THIS IN MIND: No woman likes a man who does not have dominion over himself or needs to be dominated by her.

A different gathering—Do not expect it to be just another church service. Do you believe God has something specific to say to today’s men? And if He will speak to us,

is there any better place to do it then a gathering of hundreds of men inside a holy place?

Subjects that are not discussed in other meetings—When men and women are present, the subject must be relevant to both. But when there’s only men around, we can talk from men-to-men. There are matters we’re only comfortable talking about when there are no skirts around. Get ready!

Don’t fall behind—If you’re a man, then you’re competitive. You do not want to fall behind. Yet, this is what has happened to many who think they already know everything and don’t need to improve. If you’re one of these, please don’t show up. Just applaud from the stands when you see us, the front runners, cross the finish line.

Intelligent men invest in themselves—This is a call to all IntelliMen— intelligent men who want to increase their self-value. Nothing increases in value without investment. The “Dominion” event will be an investment in yourself.

Have you decided to join in already?

So no one likes fake people right?

Everyone likes people who are real.

God is the same.

Do you want some Real Talk? Well,

I’ve got some for you!

Who are you? Have you thought about that?

Are you “yourself” or are you “someone

else”? When you look at the mirror, what

do you see? Do you see yourself or do

you see a mask? Do your friends like you

for who you REALLY are, or do they like

you for the PERSONA you have created?

God wants to give you a new life;

He wants to show Himself to you,

but how can He show you who He really

is, if you don’t show Him who you really are?

Take off the mask, expose yourself,

ask for help and confess your mistakes.

Get real with God and He’ll get real with you.

Got it?Michael VictorREAL TALK

Who are you?

Imagine 200 youths wearing fresh white VYG polos, walking around one of the main shopping centres in

the UK…Exactly! Stores, restaurants and lounge areas—everywhere you look, you see young people in VYG polos.

All 200 youth gathered at the main entrance of the shopping centre to sing our most famous chants: “It’s the VYG”, “One Question” and “Sky be

the Motto”, while a huge crowd surrounded us, wanting to join in and sing with us.

It was a very fun and at the same time, an effective way to promote the VYG to those who don’t know what we do.
