1. Introduction
1.1. Introduction
The document describes how to update device SW on UNITROL 1010 and UNITROL 1020 using
the UNITROL 10xx Programmer 1.00.
1.2. Restricted to device SW Rel 6.317 and 6.318
The tool will check device SW and update only devices with release 6.317 and 6.318 to release
6.319.
1.3. Audience
The upgrade tool and instruction are addressed to limited trained persons, especially service
people with background in mechanical service of gas engines.
1.4. Tool setup and how to work with it
The tool provides simple update of device SW, where the PC is connected over a USB cable to
the UNITROL 1000. The UNITROL 1000 is powered directly over USB, thus no additional power
supply is needed.
The main window consists of following elements
1. Connection mode status / device information
a. OFFLINE: Device recognized, and connection established
b. MONITOR: Data can be read from the device
c. CONTROL Data can be changed on the device, required for programming
2. Selector of connection status
3. User instructions field Follow the instruction during the programming process
4. Data on tests

2. Preparation
2.1. Applicable safety instructions
To avoid any human injury or death, or any damage to the equipment, safety instruction in
Quick installation guides [1] or in user manual [2], [3] must be followed.
The person who does the upgrade must take care on following items.
- The entire generation unit must be in standstill with no power on the unit, check that
now LED are lighting on the UNITROL 1000 device.
- The operator on the plant must be informed and starting of the unit must be blocked
- The service person, who does the update has to read instruction on the quick instal-
lation guide
2.2. Required tools and SW

WARNING!
Using the mentioned red USB cable above is an absolute
must. Using any other standard USB cable will lead to
power interruption during programming and the UNITROL
1000 might be damaged.
Make sure, no other USB port is used on PC.

2.3. Limitations
The programming tool is only working for devices manufactured later than 2016. The device
is easily identified by the device status.
NOTE The programming tool can only be used with HW status J and higher

2.4. Installation of UNITROL 10xx Programmer
The software is provided as ZIP file, unpack the file and store installation data on PC hard
drive for installation.

4. Installing of USB driver
a) Driver is provided as sepa-
rate zip file

b) Unpack files to local hard
drive
c) Double click on <Instal-
lUSBdriver.exe>
Following window appears for short time.
2.5. Tool configuration
The tool will store user and site data and store programming results in a report. Setting shall
be updated prior to any programming of UNITROL 1000 with correct data in order to be able
to track all updated devices.
The configuration takes place the first time the tool is started and will be automatically
saved, so at next start all setting are loaded automatically.

In order to configure serial port of PC, the device must
be connected to the PC with the red USB cable.
Green LED next to USB cable will indicate that
UNITROL1000 controller are powered
2. Start the tool by double click
on <UNITROL 10xx Program-
mer> icon
3. Settings USB ports
a) Press <Continue>
b) Wait until warning window
<Serial Port not found…>
pops up
c) Press <OK>
d) Select correct USB port

e) Press <OK>
4. PC software is now connected
with the UNITROL 1000, show-
ing <Offline> and the con-

the tool configuration and repeat the configuartion
steps
For reseting the configuration press <Reset Tool
Configuration>, close the tool and restart it

4. Hints and trouble shooting The chapter is giving hints and solution in case the tool as such or a programming was inter-
rupted for any reason.

Check if the USB cable is connected correctly, discon-
nect the cable and connect it again.
If the connection is not established, reset USB port
configuration by pressing <Reset Tool Configuration>,
close the tool and restart it.
The UNITROL 10xx Programmer will now ask you to con-
figure the ports new.
2. Report was not generated Connect the unit again, switch to <CONTROL> and
press <Generate Report> in the UN1000 SW Update
window.
The tool will generate a report.
However, data from before the programming cannot be
provided anymore.

4.2. Programming hints
In case the programming was interrupted, the device will do self-recovery. The section is de-
scribing how to solve this situation.

4.3. Reporting
The tool will automatically generate a report for each programmed device. Optional the re-
port can be generated manually.
