Community Investment Highlights

� Allocated $877,000 to Forsyth County partner agencies and $85,000 to Dawson County partner agencies for a total of $962,000.

� Awarded $149,213 to 4 community organizations through Special Funding Requests.

� Community Grant awards were allocated to 21 organizations supporting 24 different programs. The total amount awarded was $113,950.

Community Impact Highlights

� Dental Health Services –Approximately 100 children received dental services from 6 dental practices in Forsyth County.

� Mental Health Services – Attended various meetings concerning mental health services for adults and children. Sponsored lunch for NAMI Training Seminar. Approved $5,760 to Forsyth County Schools Department of Special Education to support group counseling for children and their families in the EBD program at Whitlow and Silver City Elementary Schools. Through United Way Support, Avita held Anger Management and Coping Skills Group Therapy Sessions in 2011.

� Participated in the PROPEL Early Learning Team along side representatives from Forsyth County Schools.

� Participated in Forsyth County Schools Federal Title One Advisory Committee

� Hosted Hospitality Suite at the 9th Annual Senior Expo

� Participated in UPS Bring Your Kids to Work Day

� Collaborated with United Way of Metro Atlanta to bring Early Learning Substitute Teacher Training program to Forsyth County

Forsyth County Claims – 6,423 with savings of $84,414.14

(8,439 claims with savings of $119,855.14 in 2010)

Dawson County Claims – 10,535 with savings of $120,266.86

(14,084 claims for a savings of $152,157.53 in 2010)

� Referrals to 2-1-1 totaled 1,110, down by 404 from last year.

Electricity/Gas payment assistance accounted for 19.5%

(23.3% in 2010)

Mortgage/rent payment assistance accounted for 14.0%

(18.1% in 2010)

Food assistance accounted for 8.7% (12.2% in 2010)

Community Impact Highlights (Continued)

� Holiday Giving Tree for Kids Program – Served approximately 2,500 children this year, a slight increase over 2010.

� Transition Collaborative – Continued involvement in the effort to provide services for children and families transitioning from pre-k to kindergarten until program ended in April, 2011.

� Transition Services – Established a working committee to look at services to adults with developmental disabilities who transition out of the school system including educational, employment, social and transportation services. Established agreement with Siemens for use of 14 passenger bus to provide transportation to above-referenced adults as well as established a preliminary budget for transportation services.

� Three Nonprofit seminars were held. Grant Writing, Fraud Prevention and Core Competency Areas for Non-Profits

� Facilitated a Community Conversation on Food Needs and Programs in Forsyth County. Included listing of local food pantries/programs on UW website.

� 2-1-1 Community Helplist Distribution: over 5,500 English Helplists were distributed and 1,250 Spanish Helplists distributed

� United Way and the Cumming Post Office team up for the Letter Carriers Food Drive in May. An estimated 26,000 lbs of food was collected over 2 days and distributed to 10 different food pantries in the county. Approximately the same amount of food was collected in 2010.

� Stuff the Bus – Collection of school supplies for The Place, Family Haven and Forsyth County Schools through businesses and Saturday collection sites. Over 12,000 items were collected and approximately 1,200 children and youth benefited from the effort. In 2010, over 7,000 items were collected.

� Born Learning – Distributed Born Learning Materials through Georgia Highlands Medical Services, FCS Federal Title One Advisory Committee, SAFFT, Little Mill Middle School’s Parent Night, the Hill Center and the Transitional Collaborative’s Parent Meetings

� 9th Annual Day of Caring event was held in conjunction with Kick-off. Approximately 600 volunteers participated in 32 different locations throughout the County.

� Revamped Campaign Central page on Website including separate page solely for the School System Coordinators.

� Mailings: Leadership Books in September (follow up in November), Residential Mailer (netted $305) and New Small Business Mailer (netted $250)

Community Image/Internal Operations Highlights

� Began working on the Strategic Plan in February at the Board Retreat.

� Increased social network presence through Facebook and by creating a Twitter account

� Updated entire website to reflect current United Way programs/initiatives, campaign details and other misc. information

� Created a consistent look by streamlining our e-newsletter template with our website

� Formed committee to search for permanent office space to better meet the needs of our growing organization

� Conducted Live United Photo Shoot with Board Members, Community Investment Committee Members, families and friends

� Held the 2nd FLAVORS OF FORSYTH at The Avenue.44 restaurants and approximately 15,000 people attended. In 2010 we had 29 restaurants and approximately 10,000 people attend the event.

� Last, but not least….The Bee Givers placed 2nd in the Spell Check Live competition.
