OER Workshop May 16th – 18th 2011

• The AMFO (Agribus Mgt Farmer Org) pilot module borrowed from CEED model on entrepreneurship 

• This Module constitutes five key components, i.e. 1. Structure of the Agricultural Sector and Policies, 2. Context of the Economics of a Firm, 3. Behaviors of an Entrepreneurial Mind Set, 4. Sustainable Farming 5. Applications of Information Technology. 

OVERVIEW

Overview• Target audience as producer farmer organizations. 

• Pedagogical model comprise of:– open education resources (OER)– Use of associated learning materials (books, articles, case studies, experiential exercises),

– facilitated discussions and lectures,– providing learner support services– adapting a practical case study method for active learning. 

– Piloting on farmers

1. FacultyAgShare Impact on Faculty included:• Use multiple teaching materials, e.g., local case studies, local stories, pictures etc.

• Best practices materials in areas of; – 1) agricultural structure,  2) market system, – 3) entrepreneurship,  4) sustainability and – 5) application of IT.

2. Farmers and Community Wide Partners

AgShare Impact on Farmers included:• Farmer Organization Alumni Network • Improvement of their self‐directed learning• Strengthening of agri‐business management skills and group organizational skills

• Potential for formation of a pertinent association. 

3. Universities

AgShare Impact on Inter‐university Networks• Community of AgShare Scholars (Moi)• USIU to collaborate with other regional Agshare University partners (March Meeting)

• To expand regional community of Agshare scholars for a critical mass to sustain OER in region.

4. Students

– Possible credit for regular community service. 

• Recruitment of post graduate students from partner university as Agshare Fellows (Moi). 

• Experience in development of case studies• Student’s experiences and lessons learnt captured as part of OER experiences.
