This is United States Steel Corporation's ("USSC")response to your letter of September 30, 1985. The letterrequested that USSC respond to a formal request pursuant toSections 27-1307 and 27-1309 of the Environmental ConservationLaw by furnishing the information on the Chemical Survey Formby October 25, 1985. I contacted Mr. Kerzic of your office torequest additional time to respond to the survey, to which hekindly agreed. Additional time was needed to obtain therequested information because the Elmira Plant has been closedsince 1983.
Enclosed please find a completed copy of the ChemungCounty Chemical Survey and several attached documents referredto in the survey. By responding to your request and providingthe enclosed information and documents, USSC does not admitthat hazardous substances or hazardous wastes were generated,transported, used, treated or disposed of by USSC's ElmiraPlant.
If documents or information are later discoveredrelating to the Elmira Plant property, I will contact you atthat time.

When necessary, siliconbased, water-soluble cutting oils were used. The metal-cleaning*processesutilized at the plant were scraping, grinding and wire-brushing.
