During the past two weeks in those states, USW members knocked on 173,800 doors. The Democracy Initiative…A month after President Barack Obama won reelection, top brass from three dozen of the most powerful groups in liberal politics met at the headquarters of the National Education Association (NEA), a few blocks north of the White House. Brought together by the Sierra Club, Greenpeace, Communication Workers of America (CWA), and the NAACP, the meeting was invite-only and off-the-record.

Despite all the Democratic wins in November, a sense of outrage filled the room as labor officials, environmentalists, civil rights activists, immigration reformers, and a panoply of other progressive leaders discussed the challenges facing the left and what to do to beat back the deep-pocketed conservative movement.

Obama wrote. “Organizing for Action will be a permanent commitment to this mission.”

He highlighted immigration reform, climate change, gun violence, and the Affordable Care Act’s implementation as key issues, along with “growing the economy from the middle out” and pursuing “balanced” deficit reduction.

“The president has the most exciting campaign apparatus ever built. It’s time to turn that loose,” Gibbs said. “It’s time to turn that loose for something more than just an election. If the NRA’s got a list, then Obama for America has a bigger list.”

Precinct committeemen are the “card-carrying members” of a political party -- they elect the party leaders and are in the best position to get out the vote, with the other precinct committeemen, in their precincts.

Over half of the precinct committeemen slots are vacant in both of the two major political parties.

If conservatives fill up all of the precinct committeemen slots in those parties, conservatives would own the party.
